A week (and a bit) on, my two cents: Everything Now 8.5Signs of Life 7Creature Comfort 9Peter Pan 7.5Chemistry 6Infinite Content / Infinite_Content 4Electric Blue 10 Good God Damn 8 Put Your Money on Me 8 We Don't Deserve Love 10Everything Now (continued) / Everything_Now (continued) 6average rating = 7.64 If Chemistry was about a minute shorter, and the anti-consumerism/'information overload' ideas of the Infinite Contents were fully fleshed out and maybe - as The Escapist suggested - made into one six minute centre-piece, we'd be absolutely laughing. As is, I think the record's a good addition to their catalogue, with some great tunes on it that have been wonderfully produced. I look forward to seeing what they do next.
I'd go: Everything_Now = 10 [as an intro of course] Everything Now = 10 Signs of Life = 7.5Creature Comfort = 10Peter Pan = 7Chemistry = 5Infinite Content Combined = 6.5Electric Blue = 9Good God Damn = 5Put Your Money on Me = 10We Don't Deserve Love = 10Everything Now (Continued) = 10 [as an outro of course]I actually think this album is two really good songs (replacing Chemistry and Good God Damn) away from being the record they should have made after The Suburbs. It's concise, flowing, and upbeat. Just needs a better middle.

The Escapist , you know how you said you can't see any influence from The Cure in Arcade Fire's music? Well I was listening to Creatur e Comfort just then, and I suddenly wondered when I got to the end, 'hmmm, a big cinematic synth fades out to make way for the random tinkling of a set of wind chimes...where 'ave I heard that before?'. A sneaky reference to The Cure, perhaps? I always thought their song "Dimensions" sounded like The Cure from the Disintegration album. Was never officially released or with vocals.

Everything Now is the #1 album in America and England. That is their 3rd straight USA #1. Amazing. If you asked me in 2004 if they would ever get #1 in billboard top 200 I'd say you were on drugs. Wonder how inflated the numbers are because of the cd give away with ticket sales. I have three copies in my house. Billboard says: In the week ending August 3, Everything Now pulled 100,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 94,000 were in traditional album sales.I wonder what the deal is with the "free" album included in USA ticket sales? They are playing 17 USA shows, lets say a sell out is 15,000. That would be 255,000 people/albums. 95,000 is way short of that.

I v got no hype at all in my heart for their new album. I m not into their new singles (I admit I didn't have the time to hear them properly or I didn't hear a "reflection"). The reviews so far are quite bad even from the fans...I m reading hear very positive comments...I should give it another chance...I mean...how bad can be an arcade fire album? At worst, a decent release...

One of the best albums released this year. Don't care what people are saying, I think it's brilliant.

Awful Sound (Oh Eurydice) >>> It's Never Over (Hey Orpheus) >>> Porno
That's a run of tracks, right there!
Also, Awful Sound is a lesson in how to make a 'Beatles-y' tune. You can reference Ringo's simple-but-effective drumming style and George Harrison's penchant for a bit of slide guitar all you like, but you should still retain some of the quirks and obsessions that define your own music. And, just because you're inspired by records that are decades old, that doesn't mean you have to make it sound old-fashioned - it can still be produced in a modern, forward-thinking way, like this track has been.
Gets me every time, man...

Gets me every time, man... Awful Sound was initially one of my least favs but it's grown on me big time. The production is tremendous.

Gets me every time, man... One of the best choruses in their catalogue if you ask me. So good god damn catchy. Love the first few verses too with that sleek bass. I maintain though, in reference to that run of tracks, that Porno and You Already Know should have swapped places to even out the flow of the record. Disc One has too many rock tunes in a row, Disc Two has too many extensive jams in a row.

Caught Arcade Fire at the Garden last night. My second time seeing them there, both sold out shows. Fantastic time. New material fits seamlessly into older tunes. Highly recommend a gig. * Not my videos

Looking forward to getting stuck into the album this weekend. Not listening to the radio I hadn't really heard Everything Now but fuck me what a tune. The catchiest thing I've heard for some time but thats not to say its shallow. The opening piano could be Elton or ABBA, then that funky baseline building towards a 80's disco chorus, it has so many familiar pieces and yet feels unique. Wonderful song (will probably hate it in two weeks )
