Time to kick off the hype train with everyone's favorite 00's pop rock band! Apparently Coldplay have been working with Norwegian producers Stargate on their upcoming album, A Head Full of Dreams. They also produced Miracles, the song on the soundtrack of the movie Unbroken. Davide Rossi, who has composed string parts for the band since Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, has also suggested in a tweet that Coldplay material may be "about to be released". Discuss!

I'd rather they worked with Dave Sardy than with Stargate. I'm really not hopeful for this album which is a real shame because pre-2009, Coldplay were one of my absolute favourite bands.

I'll just wait and see and hope for it to be better than their last.

I'm not sure I can handle another bad Coldplay album.
Viva la Vida was a genuinely good album, probably my favorite one from 2008. They went downhill quickly from there...

I don't even like Viva La Vida that much, some good songs but nothing great for me. Shame as I loved them before that and some of their gigs I went to in the early 2000s were really, really amazing. Not at all hopeful for this new album.

I wonder if Coldplay forums moan about Oasis? All I know is the last CP album I've listened to was Viva La Vida, which I utterly hate. Pretentious twats.

Because it pisses all over Oasis records from 2000 onwards? Last brilliant album they made actually. Can't be bothered with anything after that, and judging by the fucking dreadful album title (A Head Full Of Dreams? Seriously?) I'm bracing myself for this album to be their worst yet. Somewhere along the line Coldplay went from being a band who made albums that rivalled their contemporaries like Doves and Elbow, to now rivalling utter shite like Taylor Swift and Rihanna. What a joke they've turned themselves into.

I've been listening to Viva la Vida a lot in the last week and it reminded me just how strong an album it is, easily their best for me.
Ghost Stories had certain charms and Miracles I actually really enjoyed, I'm just crossing my fingers tightly and hoping this isn't a massive joke of an album that they're supposedly bowing out on.

Three out of the first four Coldplay albums were brilliant. Three out of the last four have been poor. I expect AHFOD to make it a hat trick of banality. Btw, Coldplay forums I've been on are pretty positive on Noely G, but less so on Oasis/Liam as far as I can tell.

Wow, don't hear those words from you often!! But yeah, I am just as worried that the next album will be insipid pop. I hate how Chris has been saying that A Sky Full of Stars was his favorite on GS ( ) and that he wanted Rihanna to guest again on AHFOD ( ). This if from the same guy who wrote Politik. And despite their pop influences I still managed to enjoy MX and GS, even though they had their weaker tracks. MX still had songs that were more rock-influenced and GS had some experimental tracks. In other words, I might still enjoy a shit pop album from them, but they really have the potential to fuck it up big time with this album and that's what worries me. But I remain optimistic!

The annoying thing with Coldplay is that these guys are talented musicians and songwriters. Every album of theirs - even the shit ones - shows potential as to what they can do if they spread their wings a bit.
Viva La Vida's a perfect representation of that - what with the EP, b-sides and all that, there's a lot of eclectic stuff there.
But they seem too focused on the lowest common denominator - the big anthem that they want all the kids to sing. Screw that, just go with their instincts, get Jon Hopkins to produce a full album and let Jonny, Guy and Will go mental with their instruments (I've heard Guy Berryman's Apparatchick and there's a lot more interesting songs - instrumentally certainly - than much of latter Coldplay).
They need a commercial disaster and for them to be completely forgotten before they start making decent albums again I think.

I think Martin wanted to get them to explore "new avenues" in music but in doing that took them into a banal ,bland, poppy sound. I think he was trying to do a U2 Achtung Baby and reinvent Coldplay. He's failed miserably in that but won them a new teenage girly fanbase. There no doubt he's an extremely talented songwriter, he's just disappeared up his own arse and converted his songs and band into bland, poppy shite .

Does anyone remember back in 2002-2003 when everyone said the band was "depressing" and wrote "suicide" type music? Man Coldplay have come a long fucking way. Now Chris Martin and company sound like a British Maroon 5 in the sense that they are chasing that "pop" hit fame.

Coldplay hasn't released an album that I've enjoyed in over 7 years. That's a long ass time, longer than a lot of bands now that I think of it. They haven't written a great song in 4 years. I'll admit O has grown on me, but that's probably just because I'm feeling my sensitive side lately, but it pales in comparison to songs like The Scientist, Lost?, Warning Sign, or Amsterdam.
Charlie Brown and Hurts Like Heaven are the last two songs of theirs that made me excited. My interest in them is waning, if this next album isn't good it might be time to cut the cord.

Post-2009 Coldplay songs I enjoy as much as pre-2009 Coldplay songs:
Every Teardrop is a Waterfall Up With the Birds Don't Let it Break Your Heart Midnight O Ghost Story Hurts Like Heaven Charlie Brown All Your Friends
Not too bad, but then you have to take into account songs like Princess of China, A Sky Full of Stars and pretty much the rest of both albums...bland as fuck.

Always In My Head is my most played track off Ghost Stories but its really just Coldplay doing what Coldplay does. Midnight boards on being great for me. It is very good and it is pretty different for them. If I had to pick one song from each Coldplay album to make an EP I'd probably pick Midnight.

If you ever wondered what a future Chris Martin solo album might "sound" like look no further than Ghost Stories. Think about it, extremely poppy, voice pushed up to the front, no guitars for the most part. This is his future. I see him becoming like Adam Levine of Maroon 5. He's gonna have a success solo career, be a guest judge on X- Factor, American Idol, The Voice, etc. maybe even pop up in some tv/film roles.

When I heard Midnight the day they posted it to YouTube (before the album was even announced), I was blown away! It was so different from anything they'd ever done! I even tricked myself into thinking that their next album would be experimental, their Zooropa or Kid A if you will. All of my dreams were shattered when Magic was released.
