Apparently The Right Stuff almost wasn't on the album... (still haven't heard it yet...) At least he's gonna play Do The Damage live.

Noel said it was on the album as track one until he had an epiphany with Pin Ball/Riverman.
Now he's saying it was almost on the record instead of Right Stuff?

Song is growing on me. Feels like a SOTSG song to me. Exactly! Especially the guitar solo at the end. Very Gas Panicky. Is that Strange Boy playing? That's a good thing - SOTSOG to me is my favourite non DM / MG album so I'm loving this....

I can't get this tune out of my head today. I feel like it takes me right back to 1968 and some film noir soundtrack. Classic.

Apparently The Right Stuff almost wasn't on the album... (still haven't heard it yet...) "i wrote that song many times before" Haha yes, dunno about headshrinker or bring it on down, but it takes a vocal melody straight from Hello.

Spoke to her today She only did The Right Stuff As of half 3 today she had not heard the finished version!!! told her it was online I find this really surprising. I expected the performers got to hear the final result every time. Most session players don't hear the end product until it's released. They go in and do their work and leave. Why would a backup vocalist be any different?

They go in and do their work and leave. Why would a backup vocalist be any different? I just didn't know that was the norm. As I said, I expected any session player got to hear their contribution on the final version of the track.

Theres a woman singing on Riverman and Mexican? its a high pitched male vocal isn't it? It sounds like a female voice to me, but we can't be sure until we hear the album in proper quality. The mystery was finally solved on the entertainment.ie interview (see this thread): live4ever.proboards.com/thread/81069/entertainment-interview

This song is what's known in the trade as 'bastard good'.
Nice low smokin' groove...
That clarinet man, fucking hell.
Great tune.

This is Chasing Yesterday's Columbia. A brilliant groove, an infectious refrain of 'You and I got the right stuff' and another great bit of sax towards the end. One of my favourites. I'm not having that! Columbia is miles apart (as in much much better)

When Noel said this was the furthest from Supersonic as you could get, he wasn't kidding.
There's a bit of a jazz vibe going, until the sax kicks in with the bass clarinet, and it's full on jazz. I love how Joy & Noel sing a few lines, end with the space-y "You and I got the right stuff", and then let the music do the talking. I don't think Noel has done enough of that before, and from the first couple listens to this album, it appears he's on that path right now.
Love this song, love the killer guitar solo, and really everything about this song. Top track on the album for me.

and acting like The Right Stuff is an utterly mind-bending experimental departure from stuff he's done previous. It's just a nice piece of music and no one cares if there's a saxophone on it if it sounds good. Luke Haines was right about him being conservative, and I said the same thing when it was revealed that he decided to leave Be Here Now as it is instead of editing it down.

I think its brilliant, one of his best songs of all time imo..reminds me of pink floyd!
Not a fan of the rest of the album at all though (aside from 1-2 songs)

I love it. One of the strongest tracks of the album in my opinion, he should continiue doing songs in this vein.

I love it, its fucking incredible - sounds like it was a soundcheck jam that Noel turned into a song. It could be in a James Bond movie.

Does anyone think he will still play this live? I still hope he does. Actually this is what I regret not having asked Noel when I had the chance to. I'd have liked to know if he's going to play TRS and WTSRTS and also TGWXRE live sometime in the future. I hope so!

I hope he will attempt it when he starts the second leg of the arena tour in the UK. Doubt he'll try it in Japan and America. He said in one interview (can remember which one) that the band wasn't good enough to pull it off live yet.
