They are a good band with a very contemporary sound to them. But hardly legendary.

As I've already said now I quite like them. I thought (and I still think that a little bit) they were a little... I don't know the word... maybe cheesy? But yes, I spoken about their big potential since the first time. I think Cocoon acoustically is their best track.
Anyway, I was looking a little bit at their "history" and I'm sure they'll succeed because:
#1. Van McCann writes his own songs and you can feel them. It's important for a band. Also I think girls quite fancy him. #2. McCann's songwriting abilities. He's brilliant on finding melodies and I do think he could improve. . Also are songs teenagers may like. I think there's a little bit more on his songs, something brilliant, great atmosphere. Also when you hear a song you have it stuck in your head the whole day. #3. They're under a major label, that means $$$ for promotion if they think they have a great potential. Not only that, they're under Island Records which I reckon is a good label who can promote a hit from nothing (Take me to Church). #4. They said the second album is better than the first. Maybe it's not true but still. #5. Ambition. The Bottlemen are ambitious, and it's important, imho. I've heard McCaan saying that he only writes songs he thinks 20.000 people would sing back to him. And he said he wants to be bigger than Oasis.

Van McCann tells One Direction 'We're here to fuck you lot off'
Catfish and the Bottlemen singer Van McCann has made a scathing attacking on One Direction, dismissing the pop group's career as "preconceived and controlled". Both sides have clashed previously after the Welsh band last December replied to a tweet from Louis Tomlinson that stated how much he loved their music. "Genuinely made up you like it but we're here to do us best to get u lids out charts & bands in. I promised Ma a jacuzzi seem," read Catfish and the Bottlemen's retort. Speaking to The Sun, McCann has followed up the reply, telling One Direction, "We're here to fuck you lot off". "You lot won a competition! I've sat in a band of seven years while you queued up outside Manchester Arena the did a bit of disco to a man behind a table who then put a few dollar bills down your jacket," said McCann. "Everything they do is preconceived and controlled. It's live pantomime." McCann brushed off any negative comments towards the band in a recent interview with The Guardian, saying, "We don't care if people don't like it". "We're resonating with young people because no one else is doing the big guitars and chorus thing," he said, explaining Catfish And The Bottlemen gigs were full of "40-year old men who tell me: 'I've been waiting for a band like yours since Oasis'."Uninspired by music in the charts, the frontman explained how his lyrics were tales of life growing up in his Welsh home town Llandudno. "You meet a girl, your best mate kisses her and you have a fight, then you meet her sister. Everyone in Llandudno has those sort of stories. They're not all about me. I can't relate to stuff in the charts; if you’re gonna sing about sex, sing about not having it." www.nme.com/news/catfish-and-the-bottlemen/84236

I actually see something on him when speaks that reminds me of Liam... Day by day I'm a bigger and bigger fan of them. I know that like 3 months ago I said they weren't that good but it was my fault

With over 6 months of hindsight on The Balcony, what becomes apparent to me is how I perceive the brand new material (Business, 26) to be weaker than the songs written and released years before that we'd heard on various EPs (Pacifier, Sidewinder, Tyrants).
Cocoon is another brand new song for the album, but it's b-side, ASA (which was a single a long, long time ago) is stronger than Business and 26 which makes me wonder whether it was shunned in favour of newer songs to keep them in balance with the older ones.

When the second album will come out? I'd say 2016. I reckom a lot of people here have spoken with Van, maybe they know something more.

They have a couple of big shows at the Brixton Academy at the end of this year where Van said they're hoping to debut a couple of new songs, with the intention to release in 2016. I have no date for definite but it's a sooner rather than later situation.

Have heard a few songs by them on the radio. Sounds good, will definitely check out the rest of the album. Also, I like Van. He keeps it real, yo. He's also very enthusiastic and ambitious and I like that.

I think they're decent and I like their sound but they're yet to have that one song which makes you go, wow!
I think the potential is there but most debuts by great bands have at least one track which showcases what they're capable of, I didn't get that when I heard the album, it just seemed to pass by quite nicely.
It'll be interesting how they progress
