I always figure that he just treats all his songs the same and doesn't just toss them on the rubbish heap just cause they have been around for 3-4 years.
He just picks the songs that he wants to use from his catalogue. Some of which have been around for a while and some of which are new.
He never writes for a specific album so why is it that people are surprised that the origins of the songs are from various times in his songwriting
I'd find it more unusual if he for some reason restricted himself to songs he had only written in the past 3 years. As long as the album is as good as HFB I don't care when he wrote the songs specifically.

I kind of imagine that he's just going down a list. He writes some songs, moves on to new ones and the list grows. Then he decides another album is due and so he goes to the list and grabs the top(oldest) songs and decides which one are decent enough to be in the batch. Maybe he occasionally grabs a new tune he's written, but mostly he's picking from the oldest just to get them out of the way. My personal policy is that the best players should play. Screw seniority for seniority sake. Agreed. But that may be what's happening. The oldest might be the most developed, because he probably still fiddles with them, polishing the melody and lyrics. Although he does claim his best songs are the ones that fall out of the sky. So who knows. Maybe his 'tesco' experiences are rare.

That's what I think too. Just pick the best tracks. Why make a mediocre album when you could make a great album? That would be a shame. Perfect example.........Noel sabotaging DOYS with his "rubbery bass groves" idea. Fuck all that noise. It SHOULD have been this!!!!!!!!! Bag It Up The Turning Waiting For The Rapture The Shock of The Lightning I'm Outta Time Come On Outside Falling Down To Be Where There Is Life (Richard Fearless Version) I Wanna Live In A Dream In My Record Machine Boy With The Blues To me that is action packed and runs strong from first half to second half. No fillers.

I believe that was a fake rumor. Fingers crossed on that one. I really loathe that demo. There's a forum member here (the dude who bought Alan White's drums and has all kinds of pictures with Oasis inner circle folks) who claims to have heard the album…I hope he'll help us out here. According to US iTunes, Girl with The X-Ray Eyes is 3:20. The demo for She Must be One of Us is 3:25

she must be one of us is literally the only of the unreleased HFB trax from album 1 that I don't consider to be album worthy material.
all the rest are either album, b-side, or single worthy, if not moreso than the tracks already released. but she must be one of us is the worst bob dylan pastiche ever. doesn't quite do the damage, noely...

So, oasisdna said
What's Noel's album like?
"Nothing and I mean nothing like you'd expect. Very dancy type tracks. Something that could almost be played in a club. The last 3 tracks especially."

Here's Noel referring to the leaked demos (Come On Outside, !!Oh Lord!!, She Might be One of Us and Just Let Ir Come Down Over Me) during the recent Mastertapes interview: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04tj8nt (at around the 5:10 mark) "...demos that ended up leaking out there that are not on this record that I've got coming up soon, but they'll probably never see the light of the day."Honestly, I can't see "She Might be One of Us" appearing on Chasing Yesterday. It's just a mediocre sketch of a song. And yeah, oasisdna was already kind enough to give us some inside information, he's probably said too much anyway.

oasisdna: "Yes I've heard the entire Chasing Yesterday album. It's nothing what you expect a Noel album to be. Everyone will be surprised. Tracks 1,3 and 5 stand out and the last 3 tracks that close the album out are atypical...TO SAY THE LEAST. They have a jazzy almost dance type feel. It's what a true artist does...evolve. I enjoy it. As for the delays on BHN, what you have to understand is that there are only a handful, yes maybe 4-5 people trying to get this done. It means digging through footage and painlessly listening to lost songs (I've heard songs I've never even heard of and know will never see the light of day). Also, Noel has to approve of the tracks...it's ALOT. So if you guys want a quality reissue patience is a virtue. I can't wait to see what Brian puts together for the packaging/artwork. I think I've said too much already so this will probably be the last I post on the topic. Live forever." LINK: live4ever.proboards.com/thread/79794/reissue?page=17#ixzz3M0pNpvSK

Very similar to him using older Oasis era demos like.... - Everybody's On The Run - Dream On - If I Had A Gun - The Death of You and Me - Record Machine - Stranded On The Wrong Beach - Stop The Clocks - The Good Rebel - A Simple Game of Genius This list can easily be expanded. ;-) Lately, that is for the past couple of years, I've tried to gathered all the information on when and where what was recorded and of course, when it had originally been written. And I can safely say that all tracks of Noel's debut album were written (and demoed) whilst Oasis were still together. Including b-sides, except for Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me and Alone On The Rope for which I can't seem to find any references to whatsoever. Hopefully, I'm able to properly compile this in the near future in a comprehensive way. It's actually quite a task getting all the quotes and sources right. :-)

A little like the Verve.[/quote] probably the coolest thing i've heard from amorphous androgynous or whatever..until the guy singing comes in. he's like a liam/richard ashcroft parody. i dig some of the stuff they've done as future sound of london, but the stuff they did with noel seems really self indulgent and boring. take any song off of HFB album, give it a vaguely indian or mysterious western vibe and stretch it out for 3 minutes too long and that's the formula. echo noel's voice 100 times. Give me a computer with audio software and I could do that...not that I want to or have done it, it jsut feels formulaic and rather than revelatory they feel excessive. as did many of the remixes from DOYS era from all the different producers.
