What about Jay Mehler? Here he quits Kasabian to join Beady Eye and they split. He played it fast and loose!

I don't think today should really be about whether Beady Eye succeeded or failed or how or why they might have fallen "short" (though I don't believe they fell short). I believe some of the comments being made in this thread are quite frankly in poor taste. A section of this forum has just lost it's second band in five years. That's not something to be derided and lampooned. Though Beady Eye didn't mean much to me, it meant a lot to a ton of people I feel bad for those who first had to deal with the loss of Oasis and now Beady Eye. I spent today listening to a bit of Beady Eye. I didn't want to comment. I just wanted to listen. A few things stuck out in my mind as I was listening: 1.) I still regret not seeing them when they came to Chicago a few years back. At the time I was broke and just didn't have the cash to make the gig. It was a great venue, the Metro. I never got a chance to see Oasis and now I'll never have the chance to see Beady Eye. I've been an Oasis fan for going on seven years now and I've never seen Liam perform live. Probably one of my all-time favorite singers. I probably never will have the chance to see him perform. At the time I thought there'd be other days. What I didn't know was that was the only day. I still wished they had tour America during the BE tour, at least for the sake of American fans. There will be a section of the fanbase that has not only never seen Oasis perform, but Liam in general. That is something worth taking note of. 2.) As I said, I could never say that was an out and out fan of Beady Eye. I supported because they were part of Oasis and wanted to see them succeed. I bought their singles and DGSS along with BE (which I have on vinyl with a nice poster to boot ). However, for anyone to say that they didn't produce some good tunes, and I do mean good tunes, is pretty strong hate. Over the two albums I did enjoy Four Letter Word, The Roller, Wigwam, World Outside my Room, In a Bubble with a Bullet, Flick of the Finger, Soul Love, musically Second Bite of the Apple is brilliant, Ballroom Figured, and Evil Eye. Many bands would kill for a nice collection of songs like that. At times Beady Eye's music was uneven, but the band itself was never boring. They were like the Sisyphus of bands. Forever pushing up the boulder up the hill, having some high points and low points, but never giving up on the idea that they could survive. That should commended and respected. 3.) Lastly, I think it was fitting that just as with Oasis ending with Soldier On, that the extended version of BE ended with Evil Eye, once again, a Liam written tune. It was the perfect song to close out the band in terms of theme and sound. It sounds like what Beady Eye were. A good swan song to an old story with a stubborn belief that there could be a new one written right around the corner if one could just keep holding on. R.I.P. Beady Eye. There are quite a few good posts in this thread but this is the best. By miles.

Just cause it was planned doesn't mean it'll ever happen Well then one shouldn't announce it on the grand stage. Wait until funding and casting is completed. They didn't even have a screenplay! I've read that book. It needs a lot of work to be turned into a 90 minute film.

It's definitely not a bad behind the scenes read of the Beatles between 1968 and 1970. More like a daily diary of events. Reads very quickly.

I have not really followed the band, but the work was honest and Gem is a real star. Noel should hire him for the 3rd album. Anyways, they werent that expressive.

I really think Beady Eye will be one of those bands that will much more appreciated in the later years, similar to John Lennon after the Beatles. McCartney wrote all the poppy songs that were hits and made all the charts because they were catchy and radio friendly while Lennon went all experimental and weird. Lennon's stuff like imagine wasn't hailed right away or made a huge impact until after he died. This is much like Noel and Liam, although not the to the same scale. I very much hope for Beady Eye to turn into one of those bands that weren't much appreciated during there time but will make an impact when we and the younger generation look back.

The album was a smash hit for Lennon at the time of its release. It went #1 in America, England and dozens of nations worldwide. The song peaked at #3 in USA and has pretty much never left the radio airwaves since. Huge Lennon release for sure.

Hopefully this will turn out to be only one of the many junctions in the Oasis timeline. No one knows what will happen in the years to come but it's not unlikely that those years will be more abundant for us Oasis fans than others expect them to be.
