Haven't really listened to the second disc of extras yet. Though I listened to their unplugged session on Jo Whiley tonight, thought it was very good.
Gave the album another spin first time in a couple of weeks - only song I skip is Song For Someone - it's so U2 by numbers.... in fact, sounds like a U2 rip off band. Poor tune.
But other than that, everything else is really good - though I really really really hope Songs of Experience uses songs like Sleep Like A Baby Tonight and The Troubles as a template, rather than the more radio friendly tunes. They should take the inspiration from Lykke Li on The Troubles - more in the mood and mystery from which her album I Never Learn is based on. U2 USED to be able to do that - not so much now, but the songs mentioned above is cause for optimism.

Spellbinding performance on Jools Holland, haven't heard Bono's voice so good. Pleased to say I got a few hater friends to watch this and they were impressed to say the least.

Donovan (Noel's son) did this. Striking resemblance.

I hear U2 are going to copy what they did back in 2009 by playing a week straight on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. They previous did it on the David Letterman show.

I don't know what everyone's complaining about (not here, but on the rest of the Internet). It's a pretty solid album, especially when you consider that it's free. the only song that never really grew on me was "Song For Someone". Haven't heard any of the bonus tracks or b-sides or whatever the heck U2 calls them.

If you don't want it, don't click download in your iTunes folder. People always need something to complain about at all times.

It's a great album indeed, my favourite U2 LP since Pop.
I do think that there are some gems in there: I'm in love with Cedarwood Road, Sleep Like a Baby Tonight and The Troubles (standard and alternate version). Every Breaking Wave and The Crystal Ballroom are awesome too. I don't like Volcano, but that's the only real disappointment with the album for me.

Crystal Ballroom is fab, a shame it wasn't on the album. I still dig this album - at this stage in their career it is a very impressive album.
Feels more like a collection of songs rather than one coherent concept and sound like their greatest work, but there's no shame in that as they usually hit the mark.
They had to make a good album for them to have any idea of having a future, and I'd quite happily look forward to listening to these songs live, so for the fanbase at least, there is worthy material to at least not make them a heritage act like The Stones.
What's more, makes me look forward massively to Songs of Experience with expectation rather than just hope - which, after listening to most of No Line On The Horizon, seemed like desperate hope.

U2 pulled out of Tonight Show because of Bono's accident so Fallon and the Roots do Desire. Fallon did a pretty fucking good job and as always the Roots kick ass.

Loved that cover of Desire, if you told me that The Roots and Jimmy Fallon would cover u2 I wouldn't even think of this song.

That Bono bike accident was just gruesome. It hurts thinking about it. From Pitchfork:Dean Lorich, a surgeon who operated on Bono, gave a statement Rolling Stone saying that Bono fractured his eye socket, his shoulder blade, his upper arm, and his left pinky finger. The upper arm injury sounds particularly painful—his humerus bone broke into six pieces, went through his skin, and required five hours of surgery.
Additionally, Lorich wrote that Bono "will require intensive and progressive therapy." Even so, "a full recovery is expected."pitchfork.com/news/57525-bonos-gruesome-bike-accident-injuries-detailed/

ER doctors call motorcyclists "organ donors"...lucky to be alive after a big spill on one. Oh Bono was on a motorcycle? I thought he was on a regular pedal bike trying to enter or leave Central Park. I never got people who ride motorcycles. Sure it looks cool as hell, who doesn't want to be like Steve McQueen but the reality of the situation is that most fall at one point or another and the aftermath is not pretty.

I'm assuming he was biking amongst cars, like SO MANY NYC bicycle people do and somebody opened a car door without looking. BOOM! Happens every day in the city. Bikes can be dangerous near cars for sure. They move so fast and just assume everything will be normal at all times.

So there you have it. He was on a normal bike in central park and almost collided with another biker. Sounds scary from all reports. Get better Bono!
