Should have put it together, Apple announcement with huge U2 rumors all on a Tuesday, the music release day in America. Go figure. Very excited by everything I heard today by Apples products and U2's performance. Single sounded cool, let's hope the album matches.
Currently listening to "Every Breaking Wave"!

I'm REALLY thrilled "Ordinary Love" and "Invisible" are not on this album. Keep it fresh with new songs.
This sounds like Danger Mouse to me!

Found it on iTunes where I'm told, "it's already in your music library" I'm sat here laughing at the fact that not only is it free, they've actually took it upon themselves to put it in our collections. Still, I guess that means I'd better listen to it now

Good for U2. This was honestly the best move for them from a marketing standpoint. U2 really has lost a lot of playability from 2004 onwards because their last album was just so blah. Few bands could pull this trick off but despite their recent dip in popularity, you are quickly reminded that U2 is still one of the biggest bands in the world.
I wonder how this would have faired if it wasn't coupled with the Apple iPhone announcements. I still think a lot of people would care but I wonder how much? I haven't listened to anything other than The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone), which sounds pretty good. I'm not expecting a great album out of them, one that be played years from now. I'd just like a solid album because it has been a while since they've done that.

How do you find it in your library? I believe it is in your "purchase" section within iTunes. Good luck.

I've listened to 75% of it, miles improvement over their last album which was a turd. Lead single is actually very catchy and not featuring any cheese like Sexy Boots or If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight. I love love LOVE that Danger Mouse produced the album. I've championed that man for years on this forum, always wanted Beady Eye to work with him......or Noel.

Gorillaz Demon Day's and the last few Black Keys albums should be enough to see the man is a top producer.

It's a great listen, U2 back on form especially Edge knocking out those glorious guitar licks.

It's a great listen, U2 back on form especially Edge knocking out those glorious guitar licks. I'm just glad it's out after 5 years of the band and their manager hyping it. I love that it came out entirely at an Apple event. Who would have thought a U2 album was gonna be dropped today. Bravo U2. I'm tough on you guys but it's tough love because I care.

Haha, grinning from ear to ear, first impressions are very very impressed. No gut wrenching disappointments like Boots on the last album.
What production!! Danger Mouse has got them to sound like a real band again - bass and guitar are excellent. The Edge has returned to U2 after a few albums absence!! He's not over-relying on the echoey delay pedal on this one, and kudos to Danger Mouse, has put some meat into that gutar sound just like The Black Keys!!
Lyrically more personal and more, so safe lyrical territory for U2 there, thankfully no 'I got gasoline, you got submarines' here!
Stay tuned everyone for Songs of Experience to be released soon says Bono! No wonder they've taken so long, they've been making two albums!

It's certainly on First Listen U2's best album since ATYCLB, U2 have the strongest set of songs for a long time. I think they thought that they didn't have a strong enough single to release it, so I guess a shock release is a smart move as it will garner a strong reaction and the reviews so far from critics has been very good.

My first impressions aren't that good, heard some songs and they are just ok for me, the production is very good, but also it feels that they labored a bit over it.
I really liked The Edge's guitars, it sounds a bit like Will Sergeant with great guitar licks.
But it was just the first impression for me, maybe with a proper listen it will grow on me.

Probably the one U2 album to encapsulate everything they've done - you have the electro influence here of the 90s, the spikey punk of their first three albums, the anthems of the 00s.

Perhaps the second one is that?

It's funny how we all dump on Atomic Bomb and dismiss it yet that U2 album actually won Album of the Year at the Grammys in 2004. How ironical?

Perhaps the second one is that? Sleep Like A Baby Tonight reminds me of Pop - which is good. I'm thinking more of the same production wise, but maybe different lyrical approach? Sure Adam Clayton said they scrapped the dance album they were making.

It reminds me of Coldplay's X and Y, it's got 8 classic Songs but the 4 or so not so great songs just stand out more. That's the same problem with Atomic... it's a very good album but I doubt many would put it in top 6 albums by U2.

U2 just need to start releasing strong set of songs, I just think their U2 early to mid 90's Arty period worked for them then now it would look silly.
