Does Larry ever age? He's like the Kevin Bacon of rock n roll.

Larry does look like Bacon. On the other hand his rhythm section partner Clayton looks like he has aged a lot. Sort of Lou Reedish.

Jeez, they look old. I remember when they were in their late 30s as a kid - still relatively young, makes me feel old.

This is an EXCELLENT Billy Corgan interview. I have always enjoyed his views on the state of the music industry, especially the period between Mellon Collie and Adore. Very smart guy. I feel the same thing happened to Oasis. Kings of the world for 18 months then kings of nothing a year later.

When I think of British music in the 90s, it's obviously Britpop bands I instantly think of. With the USA, three bands I always go back to, it's always Nirvana, Pavement and Smashing Pumpkins. Whoever said the 90s were shit?

I'm not digging the "official" cover art for this album at all.

I'm not digging the "official" cover art for this album at all. I did agree, but give it time and it makes sense. At first glance, it's pretty disconcerting for me, even more so when you realise it's Larry's son. I've heard many shout 'Gay!' or 'Incest!' or 'Paedo'! But any negative connotations initially isn't the fault of the bands, rather more an oversexualised society, so more an issue with ourselves if we hate upon it. Shouts of paedophilia are way off the mark - I know the chilling Sleep Like A Baby Tonight deals with the child abuse scandals of the Catholic church from 1970s Dublin, but it's a stretch and unlikelihood they would go so far to deal with that issue on an album cover - most of all U2, considering they want to sell records. It harks back to the Boy cover though. Letting it settle in, I do think it's their best album cover for a long long time, and is daring in a way U2 haven't been for ages, rather than just having an over-earnest shot of the band on the cover. Is it as daring as the music itself? Certainly not - the first half is slap bang middle of the road territory, the second half begins to deal with more taboo topics (death, child abuse, domestic abuse) that U2 have strayed away from for nearly 20 years. I'd like to think that the more sombre and reflective pieces of this album - Sleep Like A Baby, The Troubles - are an indication of how Songs of Experience will pan out, rather than tunes like California, Song For Someone, Iris (about Bono's late mother, but nowhere near as eloquent as Tomorrow or Lemon) which, although enjoyable and poppy, are the type of songs that have been done to death by many other bands. If they can go experimental on Songs of Experience, I can't wait. If replicating the sound of Innocence - yeah I'll take it, I sure enjoy this new album - but it's needless at the end of the day to have two albums basically the same.

U2 told Rolling Stone magazine that many of those "tunes" are unfinished and no plans are made yet to complete the work. Geez........

That so fucking lame. They already have the most Grammys all-time by any band. Music isn't about awards. Fucking hell.

And now U2 says only "70%" of their follow up album (Songs of Experience) is ready to be recorded. I love the stories keep changing with these guys. It was only two weeks ago it was totally finished, in the can, ready to be released. Man these guys can get on my nerves like none other. www.nme.com/news/u2/80088

Anyone give the bonus disc a spin yet? "Lucifer's Hands" reminds me of "20th Century Boy" by T. Rex and "The Crystal Room" sounds like New Order. I just had a feeling U2 were going to attempt to sneak in "Invisible" and they surely did by hiding it as a secret track behind the alternate mix of "Sleep Like A Baby Tonight".
