I've been starting to dig into U2's discography recently. Hey Lennon2217, what're some of your favorite U2 songs? Same here. I'm on my first pass through, listening to each song and deleting the ones I know I don't like. Almost finished. "No Lines on the Horizons" album and then I'm done since I've already listened to Songs of Innocence. Then I start my second pass.

Remember when U2 said they were going to have a quick follow album to "Songs of Innocence" which was already recorded? Yeah.....me neither! That was almost a year ago now. Civilizations rise and collapse during U2's promises.

I wish I was just getting into them, it's a wonderful experience to hear these songs for the first time. That's a pretty good list, besides the ones you mentioned, I'd say my favourites are: The Electric Co. Out of Control One Tree Hill Running To Stand Still Acrobat So Cruel (oh well, pretty much the entire Achtung Baby, let's be honest) Stay (Faraway, so close!) Zooropa Miss Sarajevo If God Will Send His Angels Kite In a Little While Grace City of blinding lights Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own Out of the newer ones: Invisible Iris (Hold me close) Every Breaking Wave

That's what happens when you're friends with Noel 'me a break. the band is now 13 albums deep and their front man is in his mid-50's. if they began churning out albums every other year, i don't think the quality would be there. i would rather them take their time.

My favorite song off SOI is 'The Troubles'. I might even say it's the best song on the album.

^^ Yeah, that one's all right too, I forgot about it. I haven't listened to that album in a while.
No Line On The Horizon wasn't that good in my opinion. There were some okay-ish songs on there although some of them were too long (*ahem* Moment of Surrender). Anyhow, *something* was missing for me. It felt forced and it was missing a true hit song. It feels washed out, insipid and bland.
And don't even ask me about the cover art!!! Terrible.

I wonder how/why Boots was the first single and Every Breaking Wave wasnt considered at all fpr that album. Its their best since Beautiful Day!

Because Bono is always super paranoid about staying cool, relevant and popular since the year 2000 and the "failure" of POP before it. He's gotta ease up. Boots was such a shitty song as was If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight. Both of those songs are great examples of U2 losing the plot.

Brian Boyd of The Irish Times on Songs of Experience:
"I've heard enough of it. It reminds me of Zooropa. And there's some Passengers in there also. Sounds much more abstract and artistic than Songs of Innocence. It should be out next year, but then we've been here before."
Oh please please please let this be true - I love Zooropa and Passengers (a U2 pseudonym collaborative album with Brian Eno), and please U2, don't water it down and apply a pop veneer to it (which will most likely occur and result in the album being put back to 2020).
It's encouraging - Anton Corbijn was doing a photo shoot with the band and stated it was for Songs of Experience. But we're probably at the stage BEFORE the band start second-guessing their material...
I'd like to think this is all true - the second half of Songs of Innocence had indications of a move back to that dark, somber intrigue they did so well (and did best) prior to the 2000s. A few of the tunes on that second half were their most interesting and lingering since Pop in my opinion.
Just fucking go with it U2. You're never going to get another radio hit ever again, so what's the point in watering it down for the mainstream market?

HBO live from Paris is on torrent now. great gig I was looking forward to this! I can't afford to download nearly 25 GB of stuff though, it would take ages with my internet connection. I guess I'll have to wait until it hits YouTube in lower quality.

It's now been 14 months since Songs of Innocense dropped with no clear indication that "quick" follow up will be released.

Full gig on YouTube, until it lasts.
Apparently this was leaked after the HBO special got cancelled because of the well known tragedy in Paris.

The way the show was canceled made me think it never took place. Thus no HBO special. they played 2 nights, the 3rd one was cancelled. HBO was going to show the best of those 3 nights, that's why they had the same clothes every night. somehow, the satellite feed of the second night emerged in some torrent sites and so someone put on youtube
