I think a lot of people have a problem with people naming their kid pretentious names like 'Apple' and 'Moses', and Gwyneth Paltrow's a stupid bitch but he got rid of her dumbass.
God bless.

Yeah, Martin has definitely got something with melodies, that thing that Noel's got as well, they're getting more commercial (?) album after album, but their first two are fantastic in my opinion

Ok, they have to play the new songs, but no The Scientist and Yellow?

Ok, they have to play the new songs, but no The Scientist and Yellow? A promotional tour really you are bound to get bombasted with the new material. I'm surprised they didn't throw another one or two classic's in the set.

You know, I was looking forward to this album and still am somewhat but... A Sky Fully of Stars might be the laziest song I've ever heard.

One week til the album is released. I admire their promotion for the album - which is pretty non-existent apart from the odd interview and TV appearance.
I hate it when massive bands ram promotion down your throat. This is what U2 were guilty of a couple of months back that I couldn't care less and wished they would fuck off and write some great tunes.
It's great when it's kept to a minumum though and kudos for Coldplay considering how massive they are.

They kept building and building themselves up in all phases or media and release patterns. They hit the point of extreme saturation and backlash. If you listen to the Zane Lowe album you can tell how much of a toll Viva La Vida and Mylo Xyloto took on the band. Less is more sometimes.

A very confessional, personal record for Chris, you can already tell among first listen. Really loving it so far, they embraced all aspects and incarnations of themselves on this album, the soaring choruses slightly toned down with minimal instruments. Great album for me.

On first listen, I think it's quite good overall. But A Sky Full of Stars is formulaic and totally out of place - probably the label's doing...

(It IS the bonus track at the end of Parachutes, right?)

I had work late tonight so I didn't get a full chance to download and listen. I did however quickly listen to "O". Great stuff!

Very mellow record, good on Coldplay for delivering a solid album after the last few sub-par (overly commercialized) outings.

Finally got around to giving this a couple spins this morning and afternoon. First off the album is extremely well produced. Slick and crisp sounds all over the place. Ghost Stories is almost completely a pop and electronic tinged album. When I bought Parachutes in November 2000, this is totally not the path I envisioned for them. Not saying that as a bad thing but just not the road I thought they'd travel. Reviews at the times always compared Coldplay to Radiohead and Travis. I never understood the Radiohead comp but Travis yes slightly. This album might as well have been called "POP" just like the underrated U2 album from 1997 which wasn't really pop at all but very dark. Ghost Stories on the other hand is completely mainstream. Chris signing about love and loss (what else is new?). After all these years, Chris Martin can still write catchy hooks. He's got that gift like Noel Gallagher does. You can already tell songs like "Magic" and "A Sky Full of Stars" are going to do very very well in the charts all over the globe. Very polished singles. My highlights are Always In My Head, Magic, Midnight, Oceans and O. The song "Oceans" sounds like it could easily have found a home on Parachutes or a b-side to A Rush of Blood To the Head. It is very mellow and haunting at times. I think my overall favorite tune is "O". It sounds fantastic and I love the ending angel like choir which is a blend of the voices of Chris, his daughter Apple and her friend Mabel. Other tracks on this album are so poppy and direct (Ink and True Love) that if Maroon 5 had recorded them I wouldn't have been surprised at all. I don't think the three bonus tracks on the Target release have leaked out yet. I definitely look forward to hearing those as well. If Chris Martin ever goes solo, I expect that album to sound sorta like this LP. I'm curious to see this material in a live setting since the band said on this go around they will tour considerably less and when they do it will be more stripped back with atmosphere. Not a bad approach after all the excess of the Viva La Vida and Mylo Xyloto tours.
