Ok so I've now given the album 2-3 spins. Here are my thoughts after two days.......... Overall the record is very somber and reflective despite having some uplifting songs like Heavy Seas of Love and Mr. Tembo. You can tell this is a very personal record for Damon. Very well crafted and I dig all the warning of the advancement of technology throughout it. I could see many people thinking his first solo album would be filled with tunes like blur or Gorillaz put out but I don't think that is Damon's mission here. He's got plenty of other guises to put that style of music out. Hopefully he will tour NYC this year. I'd love to see this in a live setting. My highlights: Everyday Robots, Lonely Press Play, Mr. Tembo, The Selfish Giant, Photographs and Heavy Seas of Love.

This and Plastic Beach/The Good, The Bad, & the Queen albums go together pretty well with one another. Not only is he musically talented but he can link concepts together well.

Ordered the album online, yet to receive in the post. Frustrating but the reviews are encouraging.

I would love to see him in Raleigh but I'll be at Bonnaroo. I will have to catch him there instead. His album will probably sound better in a theater setting but alas seeing him live will be good enough for me.

It's a good record, probably a bit too monotonous, but some brillant tracks on it Highlights for me: Mr.Tembo, The Selfish Giant, You And Me, Photographs, Heavy Seas Of Love Anyway let me say this, he's good, but he's not Noel Gallagher

He's the modern day David Bowie. Although Noel has a better haircut.

What I've always thought is that Albarn is the better artist, Noel's the better songwriter He's done everything a musician can do with pretty good results and I respect him for that, and he's obviously extremely talented but he's never reached Noel's peak as a songwriter,he's never written Definitely Maybe or What's The Story Morning Glory (let alone writing both of them one after the other ), and he'll never do And Noel's solo album is better

I absolutely love this album.
I've always been a fan of Damon's sombre work, and this album hasn't disappointed. It's a return to a more traditional form of songwriting and definitely sounds like a more mature and wiser version of the early Blur frontman. Sounds like the perfect startng point for a new Blur album personally.

This is quickly becoming my favorite. Great singing and production. I think Albarn is at his best when he combines his grey Britishness (his voice mainly) and brightens it up with elements from world music. Love the steel drums on that track. His growing interest in world music is the best thing that has happened to him musically and maybe even personally to a degree. It has really had a positive impact on his music and it complements his theatric sensibilities really well. Just listen to a track like Everyday Robots to hear what I'm saying. All the great songwriters combine two distinct elements that are polar opposites and make something completely and engaging. Damon does this really well on his new album. The organic sounds of his voice and subtle guitar playing combined with the sleek percussion/production contrast nicely. Together they create a wondrous soundscape.

I was about to post this. To think of all the great music this writer missed out on over the last 20 years. How did he understand Brit Pop or that scene he loved if he never gave a band like Blur a chance? Crazy.

Just got the album. The second half of "You&Me" is indeed haunting.
