It has been a long time in the making but Damon is about ready to unleash his first solo album. Maybe Noel Gallagher will make an appearance on it! I'm sure the record will sound amazing. He always has tremendous production values. Albarn revealed that he was making a solo album in May, telling Rolling Stone that he was working with producer and XL Records label boss Richard Russell. "Richard does the rhythmic side, and I do everything else," Albarn said. "It's sort of folk soul."
Quizzed further on working with Russell and the sound of his album, Albarn said: "We worked together on the Bobby Womack record, and really enjoy working together. He's done spectacularly well as a music mogul, but I think he wants to focus his energy on producing records. Making a solo record is can be such a disaster, so I thought if we're going to make a record with my name on it, I should get someone to really produce it – take that responsibility away from myself."
Albarn also said he plans to tour his solo debut, and he intends to use the shows as an opportunity to play songs from across his catalogue, including those of Gorillaz, Blur and The Good, The Bad And The Queen. Read more at www.nme.com/news/damon-albarn/74373#zbQSkqVO6MgsGPKO.99

tbh I was more interested when we were expecting another Blur album. But I guess I have to give him his chance to prove me wrong (as if he cared lol)

Damon and Stephen Malkmus (of Pavement) are probably the two most consistent geniuses of the 90's. I'm excited for this. Blur is obviously great, but the dude has put out really really great albums outside of Blur (Plastic Beach, the Good, the Bad, & the Queen) and he is fearless in the studio, a trait I wish Noel exercised more often. If they ever got into the studio together I honestly think they'd make a classic album.

He's certainly got the talent, songs and professionalism to succeed if he goes right at it.

Long time no post, buuuttt...
Jeff Wootton plays bass on the album, and I understand (I wasn't told 100% for sure, but it was indicated) that he'll be joining him on tour.
[For anyone that's interested, too, Jeff is doing solo stuff next year. I'd hazard a guess that he could support Damon]

From a French music website that has heard the new album: For those who don't understand french : "For "safety" reasons, the first solo album from Damon Albarn in 25 years was disguised under the code name "Carmina Burana". Not quite a fitting monicker when you discover the humility, sobriety and almost lo-fi candour of these songs recorded with Richard Russel. The boss of the über-powerful indie label XL is taking care of the only domain which seems to escape the Blur leader : the beats (as well as the production). After having collaborated with Russel on the Bobby Womack album "The Bravest Man In The Universe", Albarn said in 2012 "I needed someone to take away that responsibility from me, let me handle my limited voice and my faithful melancholy. Having 45 now, I really had no choice, I couldn't push back that solo album, so it's quite personal." Electronic and discreets, the rythms of Russel compliment the acoustic melodies which are stunningly pure, enriched by the many encounters, collaborations that Albarn did, from Mali to Gorillaz. Even without guitars, without brit-pop, without swelling out his chest, Damn Albarn remains a fantastic melodist, and a touching singer in this humility, this ever-present spleen. From the sunny "Mr Tembo" to the dreamlike "Parakeet", from the dreamy "Everyday Robots" to the soulful "Lonely Press Play", the album is the definition of esperanto pop with a pacifying sweetness. We are gonna stay with it in 2014, through partying days and lonely nights.
