The La's were the best band to ever come out of Liverpool. Mavers might possibly have more songwriting genius than Lennon and Dylan. POSSIBLY. He just never truly showed it outside the tunes we know.

Paul McCartney is easily equal to John Lennon. The idea Lennon is far superior is a myth. McCartneys overall contribution to The Beatles is criminally underrated - this idea he only ever wrote ear worms while only Lennon was the experimental one is tosh. Agree.

People always seem surprised when they hear that it was Paul's idea to put those distinctive psychedelic tape loops on Tomorrow Never Knows. That's right folks - not John's. And to those who believe that only John wrote "angsty" songs, please see Oh Daring and Helter Skelter, or even his Wings-era b-side Oh Woman Oh Why. Paul is a lot more talented and versatile than people think. Agree again. I don't even understand how there's any doubt about that. Paul is a multi instrumentalist who has incorporated many different genres and influences into his music. Always eager for new stuff. Sure, he's written some crap, but so has Lennon. They're both part of the most influential songwriters ever. And at least Paul has always been proud of what he was, and was himself. John was very dismissive of the Beatles later on.

Also, it was Paul who came up with the Sgt Pepper concept - the theatrical, Edwardian influenced music hall approach, which makes it very rooted in the culture The Beatles, and particularly Paul, were brought up in in Liverpool. Sadly, I think only when he passes away will people start realising his genius when the media start covering these retrospectives. Can't help but think it's another form of trying to be hip in dismissing Paul as way inferior to John.

Let's be honest he's been martyred. In a parallel universe John is alive in the papers for domestic violence and being ex Beatle and Paul is the legend that got taken far too soon.

And surely for The Beatles to be considered as the greatest band ever (which they are), then McCartney would need to have equal billing. I can't see how any true Beatles aficionado would consider one to be inferior to the other - it seems some have merely read Philip Norman's terrible Beatles bio Shout which basically says the other three aside from John got lucky and were hanging on the coattails of Lennon's genius.

That doesn't really happen on the Beatles forum I'm on (thankfully). Yeah that bio is awful. There are a lot of biased, badly written or incomplete Beatles books. If you truly want to read a great book on the Beatles, I'd recommend any book by Mark Lewisohn.

It's not the same love that I have for Oasis. For instance, I don't like every one of their songs. And I'm not very familiar with the band members nor do I care to be. However, the majority of the music really digs deep into my "soul". I have a great respect for Gary Lightbody's songwriting ability and singing style. I can't wait for their next release.

With a different tracklist Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy could have been a modern classic. Really should have been a double album.

Rihanna could've released one great big album if she had released a best of her singles in 2011, but instead has released a bunch of hits backed with basically fillers every year or so. And now the new one has a karaoke cover of a Tame Impala song It's sad that Rihanna has to put out albums so frequently. Rated R and Loud were both pretty solid but after that it's gone fast downhill. :/ But that's how disposable pop music is supposed to work I suppose - quantity over quality. As long as the singles are on the album the rest can be whatever just to make it past the 45 minutes mark.
