And I make this thread with full confidence that the second album will be better than their debut.
Their style is too retro. I don't know what Liam is expecting, saying that he expects this to be a "hit", but nobody really wants to listen to modern music that sounds like dry covers from 35 years ago. I was hoping they'd fix this with their new record, but from what I've heard so far leads me to believe otherwise.
Noel will always have the advantage in that his songs sound like they could be appropriate for this century.

Coming from a huge fan, it shouldn't matter this much to people. Seriously. Who gives a fuck how many people like them? We spend more time caring about what journalists and other people think of them instead of getting excited for the new album. We are by far the most cynical fanbase ever. Nothing major will happen with Beady Eye. In the spectrum of music, they're just another band, but what's the problem with that?

The main problem with Beady Eye is that they don't have any capable songwriters.

The main problem with Beady Eye is that they don't have any capable songwriters. Tbh I don't agree with that.. They do have capable songwriters to write a decent tune / create an album that people/fans will like. As some one else wrote earlier DGSS sold 175k+ albums in uk I'm sure many many bands would kill for that. Yeah there was a blacklash but they still got an ok fan base What they don't have is Noel Gallagher who is arguably the best songwriter or one of biggest selling song writers, one of most popular song writers of the last 30 years and they are forever tied to that comparison.

The two songs heard so far may not be hits but they certainly have a modern freshness to them that DGSS lacked.

The main problem with Beady Eye is that people tend to generalize. I like DGSS - and the more time I spend here the more I want to go and give that album a hug - and I am still bored senseless by the HFB album. Sorry about that, I really tried. It's called different taste. As for being too retro, there are people around who like that. The first band I fell in love with were the 60ies Stones, for example. There is no such thing as "nobody" and "everybody" that likes or dislikes something.

I shouldn't really like them judging solely on what they've done so far. But it's hard to let go of the Oasis attachment innit? Nobody would bat an eyelash at them if they weren't ex-oasis. 70% cringeworthy songs, 15% average and 15% good would hardly make anyone an ardent follower of a new group.

Nothing major will happen with Beady Eye. In the spectrum of music, they're just another band, but what's the problem with that? Spot on. Let's take a different genre of music to compare - Eminem. His last 3 albums have all received mixed reviews and relatively average sales compared to his early stuff. Do you think his fanbase (myself included) want him to not make any more music? No! They're pumped for his new record. A band or artist shouldn't stop making music because it doesn't achieve seminal status anymore. Their core fanbase is the most important demographic they're catering for, and if the majority enjoys it and gets excited for new releases, they should keep making music. And if they enjoy it obviously. Who gives a fuck if it doesn't sell a ship load and receives a 60 rating on Metacritic? Do you think The Strokes are gonna stop making music because their last album was hit and miss with the critics and the general public? Fuck no. Their fans want more. Oasis fans just crave the critical acclaim and the sales of the 90s, and that just ain't gonna happen. Sure you could argue they are diluting their legacy from the perspective of the critics and the masses, but hey, I can say for sure that fans of The La's would want to hear a new album from them, whether it's shite or not. Look at Guns 'n' Roses. That's why people like Ash & Debris and other critics of Beady Eye are here I imagine. They may think it's shit, but at the end of the day they are fans of the Gallaghers and wanna hear more stuff.

Sorry you can't say nobody because I for one would have bought different gear based on the first three songs we had even if it hadn't been a Gallagher release. Bring the Light, The Roller & Four Letter Word sold the record to me not the names of the band members.

I get what you're saying but Eminem hasn't had "relatively average sales", in fact they're pretty proportional to his earlier album sales. Pretty sure his last album has been the best selling album worldwide since its release 3 years ago, and the two before that were top 3-5 of the year too. As for the quality, I hate encore (drugged out juvenile toilet humor), love relapse (if you can get past the accent it's incredible) and I'm ok with Recovery.

We seem to share similar tastes on those albums, especially Relapse! Fair enough with the sales, but I mean the critics have been generally unfavourable to the albums. And yeah Recovery sold loads because it was very radio friendly, but a lot of fans were unhappy with it a la DGSS. They still want more from him though. Obviously on a hugely more rabid scale than Beady Eye.

That's not a problem to me because as long as the songs are good I couldn't care less.

Why are people still talking about commercial mainstream success and sales? They are dictated only by how appealing the band members are to teenage girls and nothing else.
The band is in their 40's and are considered uncool by the hipster crowd that is so 'in' at the moment so they will never sell well or get good reviews, how good the music is is irrelevant so i don't understand why some of you are using that as a stick to beat them with!?

I think his next album will be good as long as he's making the music for himself and not pandering. Relapse has its flaws but you can at least tell that he was genuinely into it 100%, whereas Recovery comes across as forced at times.

It's not that Noel's music is in any way modern sounding, but it doesn't sound like it's been directly transplanted from the '60s and '70s. Now this may have to do with the style of the producers Beady Eye have chosen, but that's just the fact of the matter.

First I've heard of that You're right that's a pretty stupid thing to say, hopefully he's joking. He can't expect any kind of commercial success similar to what he got in Oasis now days. I'm sure even if they were still together and were about to release their 8th/9th album it wouldn't sell anywhere near as well as DOYS did.
