I always imagine the "Your sink is full of fishes, she's got dirty dishes on the brain" meant that she's been crying, her tears fall while she does she cleans her plates and such and can't seem to find a lover. Her heart keeps getting broken no matter how hard she tries the people around her or in this case the Dirty Dishes on the brain could mean her children that she has to work like a dog to care for and kills herself for. The dishes could also be the bills she isn't able to pay for because of the children and everything could be just a little bit easier if she had the fish in the sink but she just keep standing there crying while she cleans her dishes but the "fishes" in the sink were metaphorical for true love and the "dishes" on her brain were once again children and the bills she can't afford. I always thought this was brilliant....perhaps I am reading to much into Noel's lyrics? Lol....Anyway that's what those lyrics in particular mean. I always thoguht his lyrics were under appreciated lyrically considering how accessible and complex they were. Hm, well that's what they mean to me.
....Aways thought the lyrics to All Around The World were philosophically genius xD ahh subjectivity.

Ive never had a problem with Noels lyrics, except for the odd song I really like his style. Lyrics are important but it depends on the artist how much weight I place upon them. Liams lyrics have always made me cringe my face off though. The majority could be thought up in a few seconds and really bring down the quality of a song.

i like good lyrics but they're not necessary for me to love a song, in fact my all-time favorite song is an instrumental - Sleepwalk by Santo and Johnny. another of my favorite songs is Pali Gap by Jimi Hendrix which is also an instrumental......
one aspect i'm drawn to just as much as lyrics, if not more, is tone of voice......for instance i don't really like the White Stripes because i don't like Jack White's voice.......there's another really good band i don't like because i don't care for the singer's voice but i can't remember who it is....don't really like Pink Floyd for that reason.....i like the voice of whoever does Wish You Were Here......... one of the main reasons i like a band like U2 is Bono's voice - it's the perfect instrument......same with David Bowie, and Liam earlier in his career......

I think sometimes a great melody can make up totally for nonsense lyrics. I think if SBOTA melody was better people would care about their lyrics so much. Take Supersonic. The most meaningless of meaningless Oasis songs. Sounds great on record because it's got that swagger to it. But even when Noel took it and stripped it down to melody and acoustic guitar that tune is still something special. Even some of his randomest lyrics have some interesting imagery IMO. They aren't usually as banal as "tickle my feet with the enemy & singing that song, dig it all night long. He goes out of his way never to talk about his lyrics meanings...but I am with spaneli that there is more effort that goes in to them than we realize. But SBOTA also has some truly cringeworthy lyrics though. There are instance where a particularly clunky lyric had ruined a song for me. For instance, Take Me Away. I love that song every time that I hear it...then there is the phone line at the end and I just totally go off it. Not that anything in SBOTA is that bad. I'm disappointed because I thought that the FOTF lyrics were a step up. Or par with the best of anything LAG had written previously. They said that they took the basic song and then collaborated for new lyrics to the existing tune. I had hoped that was an indication that they were going to be stronger in the lyrics departments through collaboration...but I guess not |
