Listened to it about 50 times today and I'm really liking it. Initially I was confused as fuck! Didn't know what to make of it but it definitely grew on me. It doesn't need a chorus IMO, the massive production and brass makes up for the lack of one. Also, I love Liam's vocals on it, people are saying it's to nasal but I don't hear that. Very clean, fresh vocal.
One thing though, not that I care but if this is the most ''commercial'' song on the album the critics are gunna have a field day.

Sounds great. A real improvement from the last album.
Voice sounds really good, the music has more punch than anything on DGSS, nice fat guitar licks. It sounds like a statement of intent.
It sounds more like an opening album track than a single though (maybe because it's all building, but doesn't go into a big chorus?).
Anyway... good stuff! Sounds promising for the album.
(And I'm looking forwards to going back and reading the last seven pages now...)

I hate agreeing with you, its that Liver bird!!!! But on a more serious note, everything you say is spot on!!! Regards your favourite Evertonian on here!!

but maybe this was an incident like the Radio, which played Beatles & Stones. so we should just wait for an official Single anouncment, before we are talking about messing up the singles. i'm disappointed by the fans, who are always waiting for the BIG chorus. let them go experimental! i think its refreshing, taht they leave the path of the past and try new structures and leave that "intro - verse- chorus- verse - brdige - solo - chorus" stuff behind them. Yeh totally agree, I'll admit I was sceptical at first but with any experimenting in music, you've got to be willing to put some time into it and I actually really like the fact it doesn't fit in with the verse-chorus structure. It's very plausible that this isn't the single that will be played by Zane Lowe on the 15th which is exciting of course as dennizz said his boss had been given a number of tracks not my boss mate, a record company plugger. I'm surprised that this is not going to be the single, the promo we recieved contains an album version and the intstrumental version of Flick Of The Finger. Then again when i think about it, no radio edit...

I think it's pretty fuckin' good. Liam sounds very good. Love the whole sound & production & the horns are cool as fuck as well, doesn't need a chorus cos of the horns I don't think. Made me a lot more excited about the album now. Think goin' in a different direction could be a brilliant thing for them.

So is this the single or not? Is gems misses not mentioning it on twitter yet lol No, Lou hasn't mentioned if it's the single, but she's pleased about the positive reactions to it so far. I think this song is a grower--which is good for me, because I think such songs have more lasting power sometimes. I've been listening to it several times now, and I think the production got a good balance between the loud brass section and Liam's vocals. It would have been easy to go overboard with the vocals on this song, like if Liam's vocals sounded as if they were competing with the horns, and the song could have risked sounding too bombastic. As it is, I think they got it right, and this will rock live.

Is it bad that I like FOTF better than anything on NG's album?

I think the lyrics point to Andy for me. It is that same kind of simplistic song that Liam is known for. So maybe you have a point there. Although I tend to associate Liam with more melody than is in this tune. Maybe it's one of the ones that they wrote all together?

I've listened to FOTF about 10 times today. The horns drew me in on the first listen even though I didn't love the drums. I kept clicking repeat and I'm loving the song more and more each time. The drums are what's needed for the song, Liam sounds great, the guitars aren't over or under-tracked. The vibe of the tune reminds me of Manfred Mann Chapter Three and also a little of a James Bond tune. The vocal clip over the outro is cool though I could take it or leave it. I need to hear an HQ version so I can really judge the bass and Sitek's production. I'm buzzing for the album even more now

Does it really sound like "One Way Glass" to you?? It's got more of a "Round Are Way" vibe in my head.

I really dig this song usually I just 'like' something but this I 'dig' lol, that describes it best admittedly though I'm probably primed to go for whatever the boys release at the moment lol "Flick of the Finger", reminds me a little of one of my faves, Scorpio Rising. I listened last night and told myself I wasn't going to listen again, don't wanna spoil the album, but I had to run through a couple more times tonight lol. maybe it's not a masterpiece for folks lucky enough to be around back in the day seeing Oasis hits new, but it's cool to be 'living the moment' lol of a new release. I like

It reminds me of Chinese Blues by Travis. Also think it's a Gem song. YES! This mornign I woke up with Travis' Chinese Blues in my head, and I've not listened to that song recently at all. But there is a definite similarity to Flick of the Finger. Not saying it was ripped off or whatever. It doesnt change my enjoyment of the song anyhow. I really love this new track. It doesnt need a chorus, it just plows forward on and on. Heavy, unrelenting, unafraid. Definitely would be at home on DOYS. I thought it must be an Andy song at first but playing it on the guitar, it seems a lot like a Gem song.

Does it really sound like "One Way Glass" to you?? It's got more of a "Round Are Way" vibe in my head. I like the drums when they change around 1:12, that's a great pattern. It's the eighth note snare stuff initially that I didn't love because it went on so long. It felt like it was going to be a slow build-up that went on a little longer. I might have started on the floor tom instead, then moved to the snare around 40-50 seconds, so the snare would pay off when the full pattern comes in at 1:12. I wasn't thinking of One Way Glass specifically, more the overall vibe of that record early on, like driving at night in the desert. Round Are Way to me sounds happy like being on top of the world while FOTF sounds triumphant but darker, like you've been down for a while but you climbed back to the top, and got some scars on the way. I love Round Are Way though, especially live when it segues into Up in the Sky.

Am I the only who keeps hearing "Polar bears take you to Seoul"? No, I heard that too! Now, that might back up what smash posted about the possible Beatles reference (good find by the way!) : All of us are connected by the universal gleam despite living in different countries.

But think about it, The Morning Son has a very very similar structure to this..thats why I'm suspecting this is one of Liam's tunes.

No, it's definitely got more balls than anything on NG's album anyway. Totally agree with you both. While I agree with Maca, I do think that's bettern than some of the tracks but there are something that HFB lacks and it's Liam's voice and Beady Eye while they won independence from Noel they need to know when not to do some of the stuff they did on DGSS that I hope they worked out before recording or with Sitek.
