It's a grower for sure. Be interesting to see if this is the album opener or not. Anybody know if the single artwork floating around is legit or fan-made?

First of all, I like the direction their sound has taken; it's not the generic Oasis/Noel output, but I don't really care for Liam's vocal, as it sounds VERY nasally.
Secondly, I am aware that someone has stated this is the single, however if so, it's a mistake. It's not a commercial song. It has a 44 second instrumental and a minute instrumental, dialogue driven outro.
I don't desire commercially driven tracks (was more interested in Noel's album with The Amorphous Androgynous than NGHFB). I've heard enough of the derivative, albeit great standard singalong tunes, but if Beady Eye's management want to make some money, they wouldn't choose Flick of the Finger as the lead single of their "comeback".

Can't believe I'm saying this but I think I'd actually prefer it with a different singer.

I'm willing to wager if/when asked, that even Noel Gallagher would say this is a crackling tune and he will commend them for pushing forwards.

It reminds me of a period of time in music late 80s when some bands eschewed traditional/routine songs and instead created pieces evocative of moods and feelings. It takes balls to move away from the expected. Bingo! This is it! That's what I've always felt with some of Liam's songs, and I think there is where Flick of the Finger succeeds.

STOP PRESS! BREAKING NEWS!
'LIAM, ANDY & GEM FINALLY STOP TRYING TO BE THE BEATLES!'
I like the song. Nothing spectacular for me, but its a start and we can all breathe a sigh of relief. The varied influences are there but it's not pathetically derivative like Different Gear.
The brass is very cool, bringing the song into the 21st century. As much as I'm not a fan, sounds like the sort of thing Mark Ronson might do or Adele in one of her songs.

The truth is though, they're never gonna have any more hits cos Liam's voice is too offputting.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I think I'd actually prefer it with a different singer. You're entitled to your opinion of course but who do you think could sing this and do a better job? In my opinion, two things stop this song from being a fail... Liam's voice and the brass section, without these two, this song would be forgettable. This kind of song is perfect for Liam imo

This kind of song is perfect for Liam imo Richard Ashcroft? I'm just really surprised at how thin he sounds. The 'glean' at 1:06 is horribly nasal.

Someone just tweeted Steve Lillywhite "should we blame different gear still speeding on Steve Lillywhite".
Steve replied "no. Definitely Not".

Someone just tweeted Steve Lillywhite "should we blame different gear still speeding on Steve Lillywhite". Steve replied "no. Definitely Not". I can't blame Lillywhite either. He probably did exactly what was asked from him. He is a rather straight forward producer for the most part. I wouldn't expect anything really challenging creatively. I could be wrong though. I think the lack of critical and commercial success of DGSS, pushed the band to try something grander. That is a good thing. Exciting times ahead.

Nice song, a bit slow (I thought it would go off at some point). The first thing that came to my mind though is TRUMPETS!!
The end of the song is ironically fitting with the whole North Korea thing that's going on.
I wonder why Liam's voice always has to be hidden in the mix that way?

Time to give this song the "driving test". Just made a mix CD featuring Flick Of The Finger as the opening track. The mix is titled "Awesome Mix #6". Do you approve Hans Gruber?

Definitely not, but maybe this was the most radio-friendly song on the album or maybe like with DGSS, beady eye will mess the single up again like they did with releasing Bring The Light first... but maybe this was an incident like the Radio, which played Beatles & Stones. so we should just wait for an official Single anouncment, before we are talking about messing up the singles. i'm disappointed by the fans, who are always waiting for the BIG chorus. let them go experimental! i think its refreshing, taht they leave the path of the past and try new structures and leave that "intro - verse- chorus- verse - brdige - solo - chorus" stuff behind them. You can experiment and put a chorus into a song!! When I hear this i like it yeah, but it's like you're waiting for something, wait over and over, but nothing happens,I miss something you know? It's like an unfinished song...this is what I think
