I really think that this tune will fit perfectly into a themed album, which by the sound of things is exactly what were getting. You can hear the outro ready to go bonkers and straight into the next song or interlude. The whole intrigue is very enjoyable, think we're going to enjoy the new direction. I agree. On it's own it may be missing something but as the lead in to another track it could make for an interesting album

Listened to it again on the soundcloud page. Better quality, but I still utterly hate how flat the drums sound. And it still sounds like 45 seconds worth of melody stretched out across near four minutes with a random quote at the end. I love the horns, but after the first minute it gets old for me. Decent song, but I don't see anything special about it. I'd be happy if we hear the album and this turns out to be one of the of the bottom tracks. I agree it should be in the bottom of the album in terms of individual quality. If this were one of the "best" tracks in terms of songwriting I'll be disappointed. But not every track needs to be single material. Some can just serve the album. My overall feelings about the worthiness of this track will likely rest on how it feeds into the rest of the album it's on.

I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up, but I think it's likely that Flick Of The Finger is the opening track to the record, and then leads directly into Kill Switch. FOTF ends with the "and with the flick of the finger, tear a million of you to pieces" quotation, and then the very next song, the kill switch gets flicked. If these songs aren't tracks 1 and 2, it seems likely that they are at least back to back. Yeah. I posted the same thing. The subject of the tune has little to do with the quote. But the quote seems to refer to the idea of a Kill Switch. How cool would it be if this album were a true concept album?

An educated guess would suggest it being somewhere in the middle of the album, quality wise. I can't see them releasing one of the worst songs on the album as a promo.

This stem thing is pretty neat. If we didn't already have the track it would have been amazing. Having a song revealed in stages is a cool idea

Actually, I think the subject of the song does relate to the Marat quote. Interestingly, the quote is the same one used by The Style Council on the back of their Cafe Bleu LP. If we look at the lyric "The future gets written today," that could be taken as just a very general, optimistic message of carpe diem (seize the day), or it could be interpreted as a more "revolutionary" message (like the Marat quote).

I suppose that one line could be interpreted that way. In context I don't see it though. I think the song lyrics seem to be about picking your self up off the floor and putting yourself back together after having a failure and starting again more than a vague "seize the day" message

I also read it as a musical statement by Liam for the band: "It's on, it doesn't matter if all the tickets are sold, and all the old stories are told" because "the future is written today" for Beady Eye . With, of course, the "flick of the finger" as an obvious symbol of Beady Eye's "fuck you" attitude. I enjoy this speculation and interpretation. It could very well be that Liam just read the quote on the Cafe Bleu LP and thought, that would sound cool.

I just like to analyse things because I think it's fun, and interesting to hear what everyone else thinks. Ideally I would like to wait for the LP and listen to the whole thing as a musical experience, but I don't think I'm very patient Plus it's fun to see the bits of songs/music that we're getting. I would like to hear your thoughts on it once the LP comes out.

Thanks , contrary to what some have implied here at times , I graduated college and do know how to string together sentences and paragraphs , just don't always see the need to show I went to college all the time , after all this is a forum a rock and roll forum , not a library or a thesis that is being graded , ya know ?

What are these 'stems' everyone's going on about? They're music clips on the official Beady Eye site that was updated earlier today. The more people that make posts from that page through social media (Facebook or Twitter), the more music clips we will have unlocked on the site. Right now only two of six can be streamed and it seems like individual parts of the song Flick of a Finger.

I really think Flick of the finger is the single because there are 6 stems, with a stem being released each day and the final one being the finished flick of the finger and that will be on the 14 or 15, which will be the single premier release date.

That's what still confuses me about it, though. Each of the first two stems were unlocked today and are only 2 minutes long. Flick of the Finger is about 4, so although they sound a bit like it, that doesn't really match up. I guess we'll find out on the 15th.

Jeff Wooton just posted on his Facebook - "New BE track on Zane Lowe tonight - Proud to of been part of the record - Good luck to the boys. J" Zane played Flick Of The Finger. Begins at 52:35. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01rq9hfEdit. After the song he says "What a cracking return for Beady Eye. Not the first official single. That will get its first play very soon at Radio 1." FOTF is NOT the first single then.

It seems like a win-win situation as far as promotion goes....fans get to unlock more music and get excited about the album while the website will get more hits and hopefully the band gains more listeners. I've seen alot of bands this year stream entire albums on their websites the day before the release (Atoms for Peace, Palma Violets, Stereophonics, etc) but having fans 'unlock' the songs like this is a really cool marketing strategy. I heard Muse did a similar thing (last year?), but I'm not a fan so I can't say how effective it was in generating interest in the album..

Although being sceptical regarding Beady Eyes last album, I`m very impressed by FOTF! Love the drums and melody at the beginnig and the shuffled drums kicking in at 1:15. Love the horns and love Liams Voice. 1:58- great moment. The vocal sample is nice too..don`t like the end really. would be nice if there`d be a cracking guitar solo after the sample..but still- a good tune with nice production. Thank you beady eye. "I want more"
"If you take out the horn section.." Haha.

The Soundcloud version of FOTF is amazing. I recant my previous complaint about the eighth-note drums in the first minute. They sound great on Soundcloud, as do Liam's vocals.
I am very impressed with Sitek's production so far.
Bring on single #1!
