I just listened to it for the first time tonight and now I see why everyone talks so highly about Jeff Buckley. He had such a great voice that had an almost perfect mix of richness and rawness. Plus, the guitar work on this song is really cool. I can see why Coldplay nicked this one a bit for Shiver.

I remember being very impressed with Paranoid Android by Radiohead when I first heard it/saw the video on MTV. Thought it was creepy and bizarre but very cool.
Also, when I got into Oasis, there was a lot that made me go "WOW", like D'You Know What I Mean, Morning Glory, The Masterplan..and the list goes on and on.
And this year I've really gotten into the Beach Boys, and I remember hearing Surf's Up for the first time. I was in awe. How could I not have heard this before? And how is this not a classic of the same calibre as songs like God Only Knows etc.? It's one of the best things they've done, imo.
It's weird, but I can't remember my initial reaction to a lot of songs I've heard in my life. These are a few that stuck out.

I've got "into music" pretty recently so I haven't been able to experience any new releases from Oasis or other bands. Everything has been always available so they didn't really blew me away. But I can still name a few tracks.
Stone Roses 2016 singles blew me away because I was already a huge fan and this was the first time I've ever listened to radio to hear a new single from my favourite band (after Oasis). Songs weren't that good but the feeling of hearing new Stone Roses was something I hadn't experienced before.
Oasis - Morning Glory. It was last summer, I had borrowed WTSMG from my dad and played it in my car. The first time I played it I didn't know half of the tracks. That moment when Morning Glory started playing... Damn. Fucking great tune.
David Bowie - Space Oddity. I had heard it from TV before (2014 when I was watching Supernatural) but I didn't pay that much attention. Then later that year our English teacher played it in our class. It was one of those "fill the missing lyrics" things. I was fucking amazed when I heard that song, I knew it but I didn't remember where I had heard it. I listened to it probably 10 times that day. Still my favourite Bowie song. Oh and that teacher had a great taste of music. I remember him playing Sex Pistols, Lou Reed and John Lennon too. His favourite artist is Lennon.

Watching this live at the time. Got shivers from it. Weren't you one of them who were mad at the lads and threw bottles to the stage because they played a new song? My friend were at Glasto 1995 and he told me "It's a good gig when you listen to it on a bootleg, but in real everyone were mad at band because many fans didn't like them playing new songs. Next day there was an article with Noel's comment in a newspaper that he will never ever play new songs at a gig again".

Beautiful Thing also amazed me quite a bit when I heard it for the first time.

About a man's struggle between religion and his sexuality. Absolutely blows me away!
Father your cold heartās a smoking gun Your cross aināt no where I want to hang my hope from There's still something I half believe, that's why I'm leaving this world behind me See my sexuality don't have nothing to do with my integrity When I get into that land, I'll lead with the one who wears the crown

Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall, Pt. 2 Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb Pink Floyd - Hey You Pink Floyd - Learning To Fly Pink Floyd - Interstellar Overdrive Oasis - Going Nowhere Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger Oasis - Who Feels Love? Oasis - I Hope, I Think, I Know Oasis - Morning Glory Black Sabbath - Fluff
There's probably a lot more, but these were the ones I could come up with for now :-) Maybe I should take away every song from The Wall though cos when I found the LP in my basement I thought it looked cool so I brought it up to my room and put it in the player but the thing is I never really listened to the songs that were playing (except for ABITW since I already knew that one). But I guess it just took me a while to get into Pink Floyd's music cos that was nowhere near what I used to listen to back then. But once I "learned" to like progressive rock, songs like CN and HY totally blew me away :-)

Have you ever heard Patti Smith covering this song? It's on her cover album "Twelve" and she's done very well. A couple of years ago, someone shouted "White Rabbit!" during her gig at Paradiso. Patti didn't want to play, but her band started to play the intro, so she had no choice. She said "sh*t!" then played a few minutes of intro. Then she asked the guy who requested White Rabbit "are you happy now?" and the guy answered "Yeah!".
