What do you think are the most underrated albums of all time. I could think of many but I just recently listened to these two albums.
Crocodiles by Echo and the Bunnymen
I think this is equal to any of the Bunnymen's album, even The Killing Moon. The album cover sums it up and the sound is quite gloomy than most post-punk but it's a fantastic debut that is up there with Joy Division's debut also. Also, more psychedelic than other post-punk offerings with Will Seargent's guitar work being excellent in my opinion, loads of variety. I love it and it is one of the greatest debuts of all time, and unfortunately, the band as a whole are heavily underrated for some unknown reason. Ian McCulloch is a great lyricist and I'm surprised at how little recognition they are given.
Drawn From Memory by Embrace
Embrace's last two albums (released in the last two decades) have been incredibly middle of the road and lacking the ambition of this album, much like a couple of the U2 and Coldplay albums from the same era. Whereas the debut was overproduced with orchestras to make up for relatively simple songs (much like Be Here Now), this album is more guitar and rock based and the dynamics of the tunes are more interesting - for example, the opener The Love It Takes starts of with what we expect from Embrace - a slow ballad but then descends into a spectacular rock tune with squealing guitar solos. There are the expected odd anthem and ballads but the lyrics are very heartfelt and honest without being mawkish and contrived sounding. I love it because there is so much variety - proper rock tunes and proper ballads. It is one of my favourite albums and the main reason why I love this band.
Was wondering what you think are the most underrated albums of all time, feel free to give explanations!

Crocodiles is underrated and Heaven Up Here too, but my favorite is Porcupine, even thou it isn't great as the others, their classic album will always be Ocean Rain which is perfect. Those albums are underrated much because E&TB is a very underrated band.

I love Heaven Up Here too - probably even more than Ocean Rain.

I've seen them on their "Crocodilles/Heaven Up Here" gig in Paradiso back in January and even McCulloch can't sing the highnotes anymore, all the songs still sounded brilliant. What a legend is that.

Pink Floyd's Animals album is the most underrated album ever. Amazing solos by Gilmour and the best lyrics Waters ever wrote. Mason and Wright are at the top of their game as well. The last great Floyd album IMO but sadly it's largely ignored.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is in my top 10 albums ever, in reality it's not one of the top 10 albums ever but it's really fucking good and has John Frusciante in is his prime. i'd place it in around the top 100 albums or so....
God bless.

Maladroit - Weezer (ironically the only Weezer album I don't own, but still very good.) Ignition and Ixnay on the Hombre - The Offspring (The albums before and after Smash are always forgotten largely. There are some gems in there.) A Place In The Sun - Lit (really the only "known" Lit album, but the entire album is good not just the couple of songs people know.) All The pain Money Can Buy and The Harsh Light Of Day - Fastball (this band had it right for a couple of albums.) Wax Ecstatic - Sponge (After Rotting Pinata, this album came and produced some brilliant tracks.) Four - Blue Traveler (the only blues traveler album really worth owning. John Popper makes harmonica playing very cool.) The Invisible Band - Travis (they had bigger albums but I still love this one.) Rubberneck - The Toadies (there are a couple of clunkers here for sure, but this album is largely forgotten excepting Possum Kingdom.)
Someone else already mentioned it but Be Here Now for sure.

black and blue - the rolling stones battle born - the killers different gear, still speeding - beady eye zooropa - u2 Zooropa is one of those albums that Radiohead would have loved to have done. Left field but still contained big songs like Stay and somehow didn't alienate fans. The title song is amazing, as is the closer The Wanderer featuring Johnny Cash. Though the highlight is Lemon - the creative zenith of U2. The album sounded nothing like U2 but kept that incredibly high standard of quality. Kids these days just don't know how great they were sadly.

Achtung Baby and Zooropa really pushed listeners, fans continued to follow their experiments which is great. People 10-15 years older than me still rave on about the Zoo TV tour. Wish i saw it but i was only 11. It was sad to see fans jump off when the underrated POP was released. The "commercial" failure of that album and tour really changed U2 forever. They no longer experimented. Always played it safe and the legendary greatest hits tours began. Since U2 re-established themselves with All That You Can't Leave Behind, its been the protect the brand mentality with the band.

They no longer experimented. Always played it safe and the legendary greatest hits tours began. Since U2 re-established themselves with All That You Can't Leave Behind, its been the protect the brand mentality with the band. Especially when No Line On The Horizon was released, many were expecting a much more experimental album what with all the noises coming out of the studio prior to release. Instead, a lot of it was rather dull, and the 'mainstream' tracks like Get On Your Boots and I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight were shite. The first three tracks were brilliant - seemed as if they were going to be on fire but it tailed off drastically after that. I do enjoy All That You Can't Leave Behind and plenty of How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb but their last album was a real disappointment and the tour that followed just seemed like a parody of themselves - that big claw was uncalled for. I still watch the Zoo TV live DVD and it's the most spectacular thing I've seen. The whole concept is mindblowing, but taking it from a purely musical point of view and it is still 11 out of 10. I watched the end of that DVD recently, when they do Love Is Blindness and then Elvis's Can't Help Falling In Love - it is astonishing. Being a massive fan, I really hope they find some of that magic on their next album again.

Blur's Think Tank is sadly underrated i personally think. Good song is one of the sweetest tunes ever written and Out of Time is one of Blur's greatest tunes. Also I would add Blur's Modern Life is Rubbish which is in my eyes far better then Parklife.
Cosmic Rough Riders Enjoy the Melodic sunshine is another great album
Travis's Good Feeling is their best album for me.

ATYCLB has two classic's in Beautiful Day and Stuck in the Moment you can't get out of plus In a Little While is such a lovely tune, I think its a top 5 U2 album. Achtung baby showed big bands could move down a different route in style without losing their fanbase (i.e Radiohead). Their last 3 albums were patchy but lets not say they are awful.
