I can't get into The Arctic Monkeys... I'll take Black Rebel Motorcycle Club as the best band. Easily!

Pretty much what TheImportance said, I completely agree 110% with him. My favourites are actually more obscure but as in terms of bands who deserve all the hype, it's got to be Arcade Fire. Just brilliant and The Suburbs is one of my favourite albums ever, even though it's only been out a year.

It either goes to Arctic Monkeys or Kasabian for me. Some other names that spring to mind are Explosions In the Sky and Minus the Bear, good American music there.

My favourites are actually more obscure Mind elaborating here? Not so I can listen to their records and come back saying 'Fuck off lol, artcic monkeys are so much better' (well, I might do that anyway), but I'm actually interested in some peoples favourite bands - tried a few singles from Old 79's, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Explosions in the Sky after this thread (maybe more, those names just come to me)

To follow up on this, in my opinion Alex is the greatest songwriter of his time. I played his Submarine soundtrack EP earlier for the first time in a few months and it just leaves me gobsmacked how good it is everytime I play it. He has featured prominently on 3 of my favourite albums this year (Suck It & See, Colour Of The Trap and Submarine), and I can't say that about anyone else.
I wouldn't mind seeing him leaving the AM and going off on his own. His solo stuff and his stuff with Miles Kane is better than the stuff on the AM albums for me.

1. Radiohead 2. AM 3. Arcade Fire
I didnt get the AF on my first few listens. A couple of months ago I put on Funeral and havent stopped listening to it since. It's fucking brilliant. Saw the AM at a small club with a thousand people about a month ago and it was the best show i've seen in yrs. Radiohead, you either think they are brilliant or you hate them. I cant get into King of LIMBS, even though there are some good tracks on it. In Rainbowss is brilliant album and an ingenious way to market an album.

I disagree with it entriely of course , the Submarine EP might have caught me a little more if I wasn't expecting it, but to me it felt like it was missing something, I much prefer the AM recorded Piledriver Waltz In the end, I know that I will love pretty much anything Arctic Monkeys will put out, over 4 albums they haven't really shown much strain, and know to take time if they don't have good ideas. (some tracks are almost filler though - Brick By Brick, Pretty Visitors, The Only Ones Who know, although much of that might be taste) i would be much more surprised if they made a shit album than if Beady Eye/Noel/Oasis did tbh.

Arcade Fire.
I also have high hopes for Exit Calm. Their debut album is exhilarating and I highly recommend you all listen to it.

Kasabian. After seeing them last night and The Monkeys in October I can confirm that.

Big kudos to you supersonic, just had a listen to Exit Calm and as you say, they are exhilarating. Cannot believe I hadn't heard of them until now. I'm getting a cross between that early raw U2 and The Verve with them. Great sound to them.

It's either Radiohead or Arcade Fire. They both blow me away on every album/tour.

It's between Arctic Monkeys, Sigur Ros and Arcade Fire for me. This is bang on, personally these are my three options too. Cannot wait to hear Arctic Monkeys new album (especially after hearing R U Mine? and Do I Wanna Know?), the new Sigur Ros one is brilliant, and I fully expect Arcade Fire to deliver another belter of an album. If I had to choose, I'm most looking forward to Arcade Fire's new album. I don't need to say why, just listen to their last three albums and folk would see why.

Radiohead & Arcade Fire lay waste to all other bands out there at the moment, but Arctic Monkeys are pretty awesome too.
Wait, who resurrected this two year old thread!?

My current favourites would be Tame Impala, Arcade Fire, Stereophonics, Jake Bugg, Lana Del Rey and Gabrielle Aplin. Arctic Monkeys are good but they're not the best, for me at least.

I don't care much who's the best in the world and who's not. I know what I love.
The 3 bands for my life are/will always be:
The Smiths The Jam Oasis
I can say Sigur Ros and The National are the best bands in the world right now (and I love both of them). There's also some brilliant bands I really love like Twilight Sad and Broken Records. They'll never be on the front cover of NME and won't play in a huge arena, but every piece of their music is so beautiful that I'm happy that they're not world-well-known bands. (eva should know what I mean)

No, they aren't.
There is no interesting band in the world, rock n roll is dying. All the bands now are indie/pop/alternative crap.
