This is one that's been kept quite tight aswell. I'm really looking forward to it, seen some positive reviews so far but my expectations are not sky high after hearing those two poor songs. Paradise sounds like JLS for goodness sake.
Though I won't judge until I've heard the album - Major Minus is a really good tune and hearing those two tunes played live Hurts Like Heaven and Charlie Brown are two of the best things they've ever done

Oh no. I'm mostly ambivalent toward Coldplay...but if they make me listen to this song repeatedly by putting that out as a single (which they probably will otherwise what is the point of Rhianna) I think that I might consider moving to active dislike...

It is for me, especially when I consider what coldplay were. Its dreadful, and what makes it worse is that it doesn't sound like experimintation or a grasp for a different sound. It sounds like a desparate attempt to be cool and sell records.

Chris Martin has said this could be their last album? Amazing if true.

The Rihanna thing is misguided, probably, but why do people act like Coldplay were ever anything but a massive pop group? They have a lot of great songs in their catalog, but they've been huge since day one.

They have a lot of great songs in their catalog, but they've been huge since day one. you have to differentiate there. coldplay deserved the succues after the first two albums. i had nothing against that. but they lost all the power from the first two albums and were getting more and more insignificant. i would compare them to u2 only that u2 made an enourmous album after the joshua tree and created something different and new. they didn't get boring. they improved themselves. coldplay didn't

I'd rather listen to that creepy baby-like sound cats do for 5 straight minutes while I have a fork stuck in my eyes than that atrocious "song" they did with Rihanna.

Coldplay was over a decade ago, and that about when they first hit the big time. Who fucking cares? I certainly don't.

I'm done with the first listen. I didn't like it. Too much synths, the voice of Martin is overproduced. I don't like either the instrumentals, they are pointless except Mylo Xyloto.
Charlie Brown was good live but in the record I think it sounds flat. I like Us Against The World. UFO is not bad, maybe boring. I hate Princess of China, Paradise, Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall and Up In Flames. I hate the falsetto chorus in Up In Flames. The other ones, I have to listen again for a better review.
Cheers!

Just heard Princess Of China - oh dear, mark that down with Paradise and Every Teardrop in the shite category. What on earth went on here? The tune I think is well produced and written but it is dominated by Rihanna. I buy Coldplay albums to hear Chris Martin's voice, if I want to hear Rihanna's voice I will go and buy her effing album. This band's priorities are fucked up - throw away a tune with potential simply in order to sell out. A bunch of desperate idiots they have turned into here. What complete sell outs. Not cool at all.
