OK I know Coldplay gets bashed a little bit on this site but I just have to ask a simple question. Before I do that, let me just go on record by saying that I like Coldplay. Their 1st album was a bit bland and overrated to me, but I loved AROBTTH and VLVODAAHF. I feel that X&Y was a bit overblown, lacked consistency, but still had about 4 really good tracks. That being said, let me ask now...
Is there anyone on this site that think this new album of theirs is just an utterly boring heap of shit? I listened to the album twice and I was shocked that the only song I liked on it was ETIAW, and it's not as if I liked it all THAT much. I was actually surprised that a lot of you actually found it to have some redeeming qualities, seeing whereas they always seemed to get lambasted on here. This new album just seems lifeless to me...dull songs with little movement or sharp songwriting, kinda like the last U2 album Just utterly disappointing. At least U2 has an excuse - they've been doing it for almost 30 years and were about ready for a dud. Coldplay is only on album #5 so I find it head scratching. Every three years for THIS?!?!

I think that with the killers were expecting the masterpiece(hot fuss was a track or two of that... Sam's town might have been that one if they didnt hyped it/released bones instead of read my mind as second single, I personaly love this one as a whole, but think that is a bit to much like U2 with Rattle and Hum) with Day & Age they had the chance of doing it right but they picked the wrong song for Sawdust(Imagine if they saved Tranquilize and instead trew Human into it). No offense, but the advice you're giving is just fan talk and makes no sense in a commercial sense. Read My Mind makes more sense as a single and did better than Bones. Human was a fucking massive song and Tranquilize is not at all radio-friendly. Sam's Town > Hot Fuss > Day & Age, by the way. They made a Noelesque decision in leaving Forget About What I Said off Day & Age, by the way. I think i used the wrong words those should have been the singles of Sam's town When you were young-Read my mind-For Reasons Unknown-Bones. and Forget about what i said was good but is too damn short

I came here to post my disgust at Pitchfork but was beaten to it. PF are just in it to be different. I doubt they even believe the ratings they give bands, they just want the shock value. What a bunch of morons.

You are not the only one. I love the old Coldplay (Oldplay). I didn't like X & Y, Viva la Vida was very good and my favorite is AROBTTH. But this album is so bad. I listen it five times and is boring and it's soulless. I don't know what happen to them. I like only one song, Us Against The World. I love the harmonies with Will but that's it. I'm so disappointed.

What a bunch of morons. Someone said this in a forum and I agree: "Coldplay has drawn so much hatred over the years that Pitchfork has suddenly realized that hating on Coldplay is way too mainstream, and now has no choice but to LIKE them in order to stay hip and contrary."

I just don't get Pitchfork at all. It beggars belief.
I just listened to Viva La Vida again (Cemetries of London is just mind boggling) - what a great album, and it's disappointing after three and a half years, I have no urge to listen to Mylo Xyloto again, only four days after buying it.

Thanks for all the reviews. If matt of all people doesn't like it, then it must be bad. I will stay clear. I really liked X&Y. Square One is one of my favorite songs. BTW Day And Age>Sam's Town>Hot Fuss

I listened to their youtube broadcast Wednesday. While MX isn't perfect, it still has some good moments. Plus, they're still a great band live, as they showed me Wednesday.

Nobody can fault them for their live performances, probably the best live act in the world and certainly the best live act I've ever seen, particularly if we're judging by the Glastonbury performance, in which Noel even said they 'ripped that farm a new arsehole'.

I remember loving the first 2 albums when they came out,,, havent listen to them for a while.... but i consider them very good,, the X &Y had great songs but didnt flow as well as the first 2. VLV and MX are not my cup of tea... I hate the overblown production on MX,,, you cant even listen to the instruments and the vocals clearly because of the "epicness" of the production...

As a mainstream music fan, well, kinda, okay yeah I am... The new Coldplay stuff is awful. I haven't liked the singles this far and have no plans to buy the album. I just heard that Princess of China song and there's something about it... It doesn't go anywhere.
X&Y was their last good album tbh. I did buy the last one though.
As for The Killers, I only really like the b-sides (don't ask me why). So it would be Sawdust > Hot Fuss > Sam's Town. Day & Age singles didn't catch my attention enough to listen to the full album.

I'm still not sure why Coldplay decided to make Mylo Xyloto and A Hopeful Transmission separate tracks instead of just intros for "Hurts Like Heaven" and "Don't Let It Break Your Heart". The latter tracks just start so abrupt when played without the proceeding track.
