The extreme Coldplay hate on this forum is bizarre. Not my favourite band by a longshot but they're excellent at what they do.
Saying that, the songs from this era have been absolute shite so far.

I have never listened to an entire Coldplay album (I have trouble staying awake for the 6 or so songs I actually have by them), but some of their tracks (don't kill me here guys) I think reach The Masterplan level. Brilliant on their own.
Basically, in that way, they are perfect for a modern audience. Release single, have single bought. Release album, meh.
I think the reason for the coldplay hate is from two reasons. Their shit gets played on the radio, while other great bands like The Libertines, Oasis, The Wombats, Hot Hot Heat ect get almost ignored. (Fucking hell play us If I Had a Gun!)
The other is the 'radiohead' reason. Basically, when you generalise coldplay fans, they are douches. Because those are the most prominent coldplay fans, whether or not they actually form a majority of any sort.
Oh, and Yellow is a fucking great song. If it was on Be Here Now, Oasis would be (semi) Kings.

Just heard Princess Of China - oh dear, mark that down with Paradise and Every Teardrop in the shite category. What on earth went on here? The tune I think is well produced and written but it is dominated by Rihanna. I buy Coldplay albums to hear Chris Martin's voice, if I want to hear Rihanna's voice I will go and buy her effing album. This band's priorities are fucked up - throw away a tune with potential simply in order to sell out. A bunch of desperate idiots they have turned into here. What complete sell outs. Not cool at all. Agree, Rihanna should do only the backing vocals, not singing the entire song while CM only appears randomly, and it seems more like her song than a Coldplay song btw.

The production on this album is absolutely astounding. A well polished turd is still a turd ;D I agree, but I wouldn't call it an outright turd. It's probably a 6/10 or so. Standout Tracks: UFO Up In Flames Don't Let It Break Your Heart Hurts Like Heaven Every Teardrop is a Waterfall is pretty good too. I could take or leave the rest of the tracks. Overall, I would describe it as Coldplay's Heathen Chemistry - some good ballads and pop songs that just barely skirt accusations of self-parody, mixed with some utter trash Edit: Also, yes, Brian Eno helped produce the album. He is actually also credited with "additional composition." Apparently the album was "Produced by Markus Dravs, Daniel Green and Rik Simpson, with "enoxification" and additional composition by Brian Eno." Edit: Okay, maybe it's more of a 5 / 10

Downloading now. Coldplay's first two albums were brilliant, no argument. I am a fan of theirs, and they've got great songs on all their records. Viva La Vida ad Prospekts March were great in my opinion, they were also awesome at Glasto earlier this year. Their new songs sounded pretty good. BUT this Rhianna thing has worried me, it seems like such a blatant sell out thing to do, get in a popular-at-the-moment pop star to sing on your album. Very strange. Can't imagine them doing that 10 years ago.
Anyway, lets see what this new one is like....

So I went to download Mylo Xyloto, but fell asleep just as I clicked the download link, such is the excitement of Coldplay.
True story.

Lights will guide you home... Well, the singles are as good as ever on X&Y. My problem with that album is the rest of it. I listened to Mylo Xyloto. It's pretty good, I guess. None of the songs are very personal and intimate. I miss that with Coldplay.

Chris Martin once mentioned that it came from it too. And to clarify, Oasis are Kings! With or without Yellow.

Yeah, I'm not checking but 99% sure the chords are not at all the same. I think they're both in B, but the similarities end there.
