I'm beginning more and more to think this is the best Noel has ever written Don't think it's as good as Live Forever or Slide Away, but then what is? Definitely in the top tier of Noel songs though. IMHO lyrics-wise I think its his best...makes me almost want to cry.

Okay after listening to this a few times... this is a good song. It's not one of his best. The strings in the background are too low, while it's still really good.
The lyrics are great though. It is not up there with Wonderwall people, it's not even up there with Live Forever or Slide Away.
It's in the same vein as quality as lets say.... DYKWIM or SBM or maybe something like LBL or GLIO
It's good people, but not that good

Again let me reinterate this. Do you people put this on the same level as DLBIA?
If you do, you're a idiot. That is a masterpiece. IIHAG is not a masterpiece, just a good song. Maybe a really good song even, but not a Masterpiece.
It just doesn't compete with the brilliance of DLBIA. It lacks something to be considered that good.

I like the song but I don't see where the, "it's one of his best" fuss is coming from. I'd probably put it on par, or lower than Falling Down in terms of quality, nothing higher than that. I find the opening lyrics to be incredibly cheesy and expected better from Noel: If I had a gun, I'd shoot a hole into the sun and love would burn this city down for you If I had the time I'd stop the world and make you mine, And everyday would stay the same with youand I'm holding on and waiting for the moment for my heart to be unbroken by the sea
Come on Noel you are better than that.

I don't have a problem with the lyrics, it's just the lack for slide guitar, higher strings in the background or a solo or something. it's just a tad plain for me, but it's better than all the songs on the BDI album besides maybe the Roller, and it's probably better than that even

Yeah it's still in an odd place for me. I think it's a really good song, but I don't find myself wanting to listen to it as much as the other 2. We'll see how it sounds in the context of the album. Who knows.

sure, some of the lyrics are appalling but what can you do? it's Noel Gallagher, he gives us masterpieces and he gives us some duds. I still like the song a lot and think it's by far his best tune as of yet.
brilliant song imo.

I really wasn't impressed that much in the start either...it's one of those songs that has really really grown to me. One of my favorites now.. long time ago that happened for me.

The masterplan is far better than DLBIA. Ha, asinine. DLBIA is probably the best song in the Oasis catalog. At least top 3 if you're feeling argumentative. I read through the first few pages of this thread and was stunned that people were putting it in the Wonderwall/DLBIA/Slide Away category. Pretty short-sighted if you ask me. It's a damn good song, but it's one of those stream-of-conscious Noel Gallagher power-ballads. Like 90% of Noel-written songs, the lyrics are generally nonsensical but give the outline for the emotion you're meant to feel when listening. I think this will sound better when he plays it live acoustically, and I think a mistake was made by putting too much electric guitar in. It feels to me like Noel felt like he HAD to throw in electric guitar. The way the first verse is played is how the majority of the song should have went. I also dislike the verse/bridge/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus/bridge/chorus format.

I think the track will grow on us after we hear a good quality version of it!
Also, how can there be posts saying these are one of Noel's best lyrics? Each to his own but they are almost puke inducing to me

I wound't hold my breath on the CD release. American's don't do the whole CD single thing. And it's a damn shame we don't. I miss the days of going down to the record store and looking through the huge stack of imported singles. They always had the newest Oasis on time.

First of all Nobody is an idiot for thinking anything. Some people may not rate DLBIA as high as you do, me being one of them. Therefore IIHAG is on the same level for some people. DLBIA is catchy and the solo is a bit special but I think he's written far better songs. The structure is very basic.

Noel made a bloody mess of the recording/production..its awful..I'm sure this is one of the things that havent been rerecorded with sardy - it sound like a demo.. So Noel does better tunes than beady eye, but at least their record is 100 quality in recording and mixing.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say this song is still fucking great. After a couple weeks of being released I still like it more and more after each listen. It's amazing what Noel can do with the same handful of chorus. He is a melodist like no other.
