BigUn is it ok if I refer to you as Paul from now on? Reading it at the moment. While I agree that it's probably closer to the truth than what Noel says it also makes Tony look pathetic. He takes pot shots at Noel at every available oppertunity. Still, a good read none the less

I got the book and read it cover to cover! Nice read with some very funny moments.
Have to agree that I never thought Noel was telling the truth but Tony does come across too bitter at times. Whether this is the whole truth then who knows.
Two incidents that felt a bit strange was how Supersonic came about and the work that Oasis did with The Realies.
I would recommend the book to any Oasis fan just to grab a little inside into the story.

Different people in the band have different perspectives and different ways of telling stories. Is McCarroll more honest than Noel? maybe? maybe not? But people remember differently. I'm sure if Bonehead, Liam, then Guigsy all came out with books, each story would be a bit different.
Like Ringo said "I went to Paul and said, I'm leaving the group. You other three are soo close and I feel like an outsider" Paul:"I though you three were the close ones." Then he goes to Lennon, Lennon:"I thought you three were the close ones", then Harrison: "I thought you three were the close ones."
Its nice to hear that McCarroll came out with a book from his perspectice, but like I said if the rest of the band came out with books, they would all be vastly different. And there would be just as many people in each camp saying that they're account was the closest account. It all depends on the perspective.

spaneli has a good point.
There are as many stories as their are people...and somewhere in the middle lies the truth.
I do hope that Tony isn't TOO bitter. I mean...no he didn't get the wildness, and lets face it, the money, that Noel, Liam, Guigs, and Bonehead got in the post-MG years. But he did get a good payout for a few years slog.
It only would seem a bit pathetic to still be taking pot-shots at Noel 15 years later...because the fact is, even if Tony got cut out early, he wouldn't have gotten anything at all if it hadn't've been for Noel...or any of the other guys for that matter. I respect Boneheads approach much more...things may not have ended nicely between them but he has refused to say anything bad.

^^The money thing is a bit of Tony's fault. He'd have a lot more money if he hadnt tried to sue Noel & Liam. He was getting constant pay outs from royalties, but spoiled all of it when he sued them. I think he was asking for like 18 million for the other record contracts that Oasis got and album sales for WTSMG & BHN. Instead he only got a lump some of 600,000, and lost his royalties.
He had a lottery card and played it too early. Prob shouldn't have played it at all. If he's bitter about the money, then that's his fault.

And to add to it. It was the suet and the bad words exchanged from it that turned McCarroll against Noel and co. He's really held grudge for about 10 years, bot 15.

That would be something to be kicking yourself about! Being a single person going up against a band when their on top with a record company not afraid to throw money @ them was probably a bad idea

It's not true that Tony is bitter about the money. The only thing that Tony was ever bitter about was the underhand way that Noel changed his contract and didn't tell him.
When he was removed from the band he was told he would be 'looked after'. He waited months and months but the Oasis camp didn't even make contact.
When they finally did Tony was told he would be getting nothing as per the shite contract he had been duped into signing. In court Noel and the band's solicitor lied about the changing of the contract. They claimed no knowledge whatsoever of any change being made and that the contract that Tony had signed was the one that had always been agreed between the band. This was not true.
A long time later Tony uncovered a fax from the same solicitor changing the contract two days before the signing! This change was made under instruction from Noel.
These events are what led to the second court case (the £18m one) which Tony finally lost to limitation. The judge on the case was under no illusion as to the guilt of the Oasis camp and actually said so in his verdict. Unfortunately due to limitation Tony lost!
This story was oiginally part of the book but due to a confidentiality order had to be removed. It's a shame because it gave a more concise picture of the legal events and also the character of Tony.
Tony is not bitter in the slightest but I guess it's difficult to be a sitting target for Noel for fifteen years and not try to throw a bit of shit back over the wall.
I know all the band personally and would rank Tony as the most dedicated, loyal and genuine person of them all with Liam pushing a close second.
Leave the poor bo alone!!

Not bitter? Have you read the book? There are constant pot shots at Noel where possible. "Noel was scared by the hooligans" "Noel was in an anti Irish group despite what he later says" Noel Gallagher is the reason we're even talking on this board! But anyway. There's Tony's truth and there's Noel's truth. I suspect the real truth lies somewhere in between.
I haven't got that far yet but Tony hardly thinks he'd have been able to match Alan's drumming on MG does he?

First and foremost, I agree with every worg spaneli wrote.
As for what Bigun is saying, all I have to say is, IF that is true, because that's Tony version and everyone has their own version...all I can say is: Tony should know contracts must be read before they're signed... It's an act of responsibility, you can't blame anyone for not reading what you're signing. Other than that, when someone is fired, at least in my country, there are some basic rights that are granted, but no-one has to "look after" no-one. He lost a job, he could and should try to find another one. This is cold, but is the truth.

now, bigun, was tony screwed? absolutely. i make no bones about that, and in all honesty feel absolutely terrible for him. nobody's saying he's not he's not a bad person. i've never met him but i'm sure he's a great guy. however, he really did screw himself by not going to a personal lawyer before signing anything. the music business preys on people like tony, and had he had a lawyer look it over, things may have been different.

Hey, if he didn't want us talking about him maybe he shouldn't have written a book. We are the people that are buying his book and lining his pockets now...so I think that we have every right to talk about the story that is being presented to us. If Tony got bilked by the contract that he signed. Well...he shouldn't have signed it. The fact is that that is what he agreed to...it doesn't matter HOW MANY changes there were PRIOR to signing. And frankly the fact that Tony had a fax that he found later means that he was notified of the changes and didn't do anything about it is a mark AGAINST him...not for him. They didn't change the contract AFTER he signed it. So he knew what it was that he was signing. If he chose not to take care of himself...that is his fault. It was stupid and he may have taken advantage of...but he allowed it. Noel took that band from nowhere to worldwide fame and Tony along with it.. He was dispensible...and so eventually he was disposed of. Tony was elevated from poverty to @ least upper middle class because of Noel's songs. Tony was a lucky guy who was in the right place @ the right time...he could have been absolutely anyone. It does strike me as sour grapes that he would be trying to dish on Noel now As for Noel being anti-Irish. Wasn't something about that mentioned Paul Gallaghers book. Noel hated his Irish-heritage growing up because it was always waved around by his father and his father was very abusive, so the 2 became linked for him. Frankly stuff like that isn't really Tony's story to tell, is it? It had nothing to do with him.

If this book is nothing but offensive towards Noel, I think I'm not gonna read it nor support it by buying it. I'm not saying that Tony hasnt' got anything to tell at all. After all, he was there, but I agree with gdforever. Without Noel, he would be nothing. A bit more of gratitude wouldn't be out of place...

Liam and Tony are the only ones who have the balls to tell the truth. Noel is full of shit, Bonehead and Guigsy were up Noel's arse, Andy never says anything, and Gem's just the same as Andy.

God...you aren't slipping back into that are you? Liam is awesome and Noel is shite, etc. Liam is hardly the most trustworthy of people in general and it helps that he never actually says anything. He's an engaging guy talking bollocks...but hardly a story-teller. I can't think of 1 Oasis story that I have ever heard from Liam's perspective. Noel does all of that. don't even know if Liam can remember any good ones. Noel doesn't always tell the whole truth. He generally inflates it for effect. It's all to be taken with a pinch of salt. And unlike Tony...he is doing it to be entertaining and not the make a buck or take potshots out of bitterness @ SOMEONE THAT MADE HIM! But he can be bluntly honest @ times when he is in the mood for it. It's just sometimes he isn't...he is sometimes that guy @ the party that has all the great stories that you think..."that can't be true" or "I've heard you tell this story a different way before" He is entertaining to listen to anyways...who care? I've ordered the book...but I'll be very disappointed if it's nothing but potshots.

Noel is a well intentioned man. Of course the quick rise to fame and elevated social class mixed with drugs and alcohol led to his making some poor behavioral decisions when he was young. But for at least a decade now, he has really matured and grown up. Noel is genuine, even if he does inflate stories for effect. And as it's already been pointed out, Noel never says anything mean in public, but rather witty, thoughtful and always engaging stories. Skinner mentioned that Noel could be a comedian with work (Interview in 2000 I believe). I would have to agree. Noel has a gift of telling stories, and re-watching his interviews on youtube never get old.
