As much as the beat goes on is a superb song, its not in the same league as the Masterplan!

dear god, the masterplan is stunning, it puts a smile in your face when you hear it. the beat goes on is just complete nonsens shit. why do all the people here celebrating it like it's a masterpiece, when it's not. i'm not here to provoke, but remember that in the 9/10;10/10 category are songs like live forever, hey jude, stairway to heaven.. beat goes on is not even close to those songs

Maybe The Masterplan is the song there singing in heaven at the gig in the sky.

I voted the Masterplan, it's brilliant. How it was only a B-side I will never understand!
But I listened to TBGO directly after the Masterplan just now, and I have to admit I enjoyed listening to it more than listening to the Masterplan.

The song is a 9/10 for me.It has a complete melody and if noel had written it,you would be wanking all over it......

The Masterplan, to me, sounds like an awful attempt to copy DLBIA. I hate the chorus because during every listen it feels like the lyrics for the chorus were unnaturally squeezed into the melodies. Never ever liked that song, was last played in my iPod months ago. Contrary to LBL which is pure awesome even though it's in the same vein as TM. Well-produced stuff though but decent at best. Voted TBGO because it's more than decent to me.

I voted for TBGO. It's a stunning song and totally unlike anything Oasis has ever done. The Masterplan is good but it was left off WTSMG for a reason. I think each track on the album is stronger than TM - it's just too slow and long. More than a minute before Noel starts singing and more than a minute outro, that's too much. The melody isn't that good either, it's not in the same league with LF, Supersonic or DLBIA...and too close to other Oasis songs from that time. TBGO isn't. Don't get me wrong, I like TM. But it isn't as exceptional as TBGO for me.

I would never compare these 2 songs. The Masterplan is a masterpiece through & through it is my 2nd favorite Oasis song & will always hold that position for me. TBGO is an amazing song. I don't think anyone expected anything of that caliber to come out of this group & the fact that they're surprising us in such ways bodes well for the future. But to compare it to arguably one of Noel's greatest pieces of work is going abit far. But each to their own.

The Masterplan.
However, I feel many people here would pick a 1994-1997 song over anything Beady Eye/Noel will ever release, regardless of the songs quality. 1994-1996 songs are not all untouchable like some people believe.

I agree they aren't untouchable but I would venture to say that nostalgia & linking all the fond personal memories you associate with them will play a big part in ppl's decisions. many of us were much younger then & had the whole world ahead of us & Oasis made us feel invincible & carried us to heights never thought imaginable.

WTF? How anyone can vote for any song ever over the Masterplan is beyond me. Everything about it is incredible but here's just a few of the stand out bits
- The "that's it, get the count in, where is it, there it is" bit in the background at the start - The bit when the electric guitar and strings kick in on top of the acoustic at the start - The build up to the big fuck off chorus with the strings and horns - The backward guitar solo - The solitary chant of "say it loud and sing it proud today" before going back the the verse after that solo - The ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, oohs on top of the 2nd guitar solo. - The piano after that bit leading into the "bom bom bom bom bom...." with all the strings, horns and guitar building up to the crescendo before going quiet again - The Octopus Garden/Yellow Submarine bit. - The guitar that finishes it.
The beat goes on has a nice melody and a boring piano solo that just repeats that melody - there's very little change in pace throughout the whole number. It's a nice enough tune but the Masterplan is a complete masterpiece from start to finish.

funny how many times Noel has played Masterplan and DLBIA BACK TO BACK at shows and no one's complained.

i hate this forum because of those things. whenever something new appears, it is placed on past.
i can't understand people saying that the new album is that good and the beat goes on and the morning son are instant classics. that mocks the real classics in music

This comparison is beyond stupid.
Would be more fair to compare The Beat Goes On with Stop Crying Your Hear Out or Let There Be Love.

Denying how good a new song is just because it's not as good as the old ones. So what The Beat Goes On and The Morning Son are not as huge as Live Forever or Don't Look Back In Anger? They're amazing tunes and should be appreciated for what they are!

You cant compare a classic of a golden era of the british music to a good song in a dark period. Masterplan wins easily, no competition there.
