The Masterplan is a true epic of a masterpiece. While I do love TBGO, TM is on another level. TM also develops as a song and is more interesting. Not that I'm knocking TBGO, cos I'm not, but TM is just a better piece of music all around. Say it loud and sing it proud todaaayaayaa

The Masterplan was never one of favourite Oasis songs, but it beats The Beat Goes on easily. TBGO is average at best. I swear I can hear Liam about to break into 'Shine' by Take That at any second. It sounds like ELO when it's obvious sonic target was late period Beatles. Sorry, this one is the weakest on the album for me after a few listens.

People on this forum need to get over the obsession of trying to figure out why this person voted this way or that person voted that way. I would've picked The Masterplan if it was from '95, '75, or '55. To me (the important part) it is just a far, far superior song. I was four-five years old when the Masterplan first was a B-Side. It's not nostalgia or anything else.
Now, if you like The Beat Goes On more than the Masterplan, that's awesome. I'm happy for you. But don't try to rationalize why your opinion is the minority one. It just falls that way, so deal with it.

The Masterplan. There's going to be a lot of people embarrassed when they look back on this thread after the joy of a new album has subsided.

Not every song from 94-96 would beat TBGO for me. If you picked one of the few actual subpar tunes from that era I would vote against them. But for many of us TM was a highlight of and era that was full of great tunes. We aren't picking Hey Now or Digsy's Dinner. We are picking THE MASTERPLAN.

Even tho I love The Beat Goes On, the masterplan is my choice as of now, what with all the emotional baggage of it being an classic oasis period track. Perhaps 5 years later we'll all be able to make a proper selection.
Btw, ffs why are we comparing these two particular tracks ? :S

+1 to gdforever
-1 to oasisandtoonfan
TBGO easily beats a number of 94-96 songs - as gdforever says, we're not talking Hey Now here. The Masterplan is a total classic by any standard.
As for oasisandtoonfan, don't get all high and mighty that excitement is overly clouding opinion. It seems to me there's been a wide range of critical opinion on DGSS - but mostly it centres on the "good" to "very good" range - with TBGO at the very top end of that scale, alongside Wigwam.
TBGO is a really really great song and would be worthy of a place in 94-96 Oasis. But up there with Masterplan, Wonderwall, DLBIA and all? No chance.

TBF there have been some that say that they have never been that keen on TM
I think they need their ears checked...but to each their own I guess.

A better comparison would be TBGO vs. Record Machine (Demo form of course). Much more similar. RM has more potential and the finalized version of that one could stand up to Oasis' 90s stuff. But in demo form, RM and TBGO would be a more concrete poll.
At present time, I'm just too damn lazy to create another thread. I'll leave it up to someone else.

^ I don't believe in comparing demos to finished tunes. Fully realized production matters.
Please noone started a thread like that!

How any one could not like 'The Masterplan' is beyond me but I could understand someone not liking 'The Beat Goes On'. So there's your answer.

Classic songs are classics because they stand the test of time. We've had the album for all of three days and you're comparing it to The Masterplan? Ridiculous.
Personally I much prefer The Masterplan, and don't see the fascination with The Beat Goes On. Thats irrelevant though, because as I say, we've only had the songs 3 days. It might grow on me, or those who think its brilliant might get sick of it. Think back to the hype over I'm Outta Time last time for example.
At least give it a few months until you can listen to it objectively. Whilst I doubt the results would change, it would at least be more valid.

Are you serious? The Masterplan is one of Oasis best songs in my opinion, and as good as "The Beat Goes On" is, it's not in the same league as The Masterplan.
