Don't get the complaints about BDI unashamedly copying The Beatles. Agreed; the beginning of the verse sounds a bit like Instant Karma. The chord progression is more or less the same; but only a bit.
The chorus is completely different... So maybe in the best case a 30% ripoff or something like that? Whatever was more a rip off then this song imho...
And I love how they play the solo together with the last verse when Liam sings: "The roller, the roller, the roller, etc...." But a shame they didn't mix that solo a little louder; now you can barely hear it.

I don't think it's a classic or whatever, it's a good tune. I prefer FLT, and I don't see it as a strong first single (hope to be wrong). Don't care too much about the similarities...

I'm liking The Roller even more today. It's not the "wall of sound" that Oasis were known for.
It's more like older Oasis, laid back! But I think that the quickness of the recording shows -in a good way.
It's also surprising the The Roller took soo long for us to hear. How could they not get it right 8 years ago?
Beady Eye come along and get it straight away.

^ they problee were caught up with other songs and things, that if they did address it right away, then, they would of had it finished earlier obviously! and for people to say it's rip-off....it is but not an absolute rip!!. it's not on it's way of being a classic but at the same time, i know i'll be listening to it years and years from now.to put more perspective....i never really listened to alynil and ik much in my life time!!

Maybe Gem has been working on it for 8 years and finally had an stroke of genius about how to get it to all hang together how he wanted.

Amazing how opinions change - when DOYS came out, people couldn't rip on TBWTL fast enough - now it's about the best thing since sliced bread... The Roller is a nice song. It adds to the excitement of the album, but I still prefer Four Letter Word. It is a better choice for a lead up single though. I'm still baffled why LAG decided to make Bring The Light the first song we heard from BDI - it's by far the worst thing they've released so far. Nah, I always loved TBWTL. I remember when the first bootleg of the DOYS came out (Seattle?) and either Noel or Liam messed up the lyrics so that one was echoing the other. I really wish the album version was like that.

I still don't really care for To Be Where There's Life, if that helps. I really am surprised how much I love The Roller, though. Not that I didn't like the first two BDI songs, but it was just that. I liked them. They were okay. But I really, really like this one.

Yeah it was in Seattle, and i loved that and i have that version on my ipod about this song: Its better than the other two but i dont know something is missing in the song... maybe noel's vocals

Any one love the fact every chorus is sung differently by Liam, love the last chorus how he sings the roller bit, ''the rollerrrr ahh ahh''.
