There is something about those "...aw aw" at the end of each line of the chorus that I don't like.

Wow. I'm impressed. I didn't care too much for the 30 second preview, but the full song has blown me away. Love the little solo in there, too, which breaks it up nicely.
Even better than FLW, for me. Bring on the album! (And to think, a lot of us on here doubted Liam and the boys. They're starting to prove their doubters wrong!)
Such a catchy tune!!

BDI ripped off of Oasis: Check out the last 10 seconds of Live Forever - that twangy sound is almost the same as the very ending of The Roller! Wonder if that was intentional?

There is something about those "...aw aw" at the end of each line of the chorus that I don't like. I didn't like those at first either - and was the main reason I didn't like the 30 second preview. But those 'aw's have grown on me now and don't bother me. IMO: The Roller > FLW > BTL

Has anyone else who has converted it noticed a dip in sound around the 14 second mark? I've used 2 different videos thinking it may have been the converter but it has happened both times.
Cheers

I suppose people are right about it sounding more like Liam live than the last few records. But personally I don't mind a bit of idealism on record.

First impression of The Roller after three consecutive listens is that it is a decent little tune. I'm not blown away, nor am I disappointed. FLW is more gripping of a song to me. Overall I dig it though. Well done boys, keep it coming.
Feb. 28, 2011 - - Should be a great day!

also, i'm finding it odd that people keep including SOTS when ranking. does anybody include "my generation" when ranking oasis songs?

If you don't like songs that are Beatles rip offs how can you like Oasis? Damn it Cos Oasis expanded upon what they ripped off and The Roller just rips it off. I think it's really stupid to say you can't like Oasis if you don't like tunes that rip off The Beatles. As an Oasis fan in America I spend a fair amount of time convincing people that Oasis aren't just a "Beatles cover band"; it's ridiculous to see that attitude here. Nothing wrong with a little Lennon, but you might as well put this as Lennon/Archer (and then change it decades later on compilations to Archer/Lennon). And my love for TBWTL explains why I like FLW, two driving tunes you know? Lots of energy in both of those tunes. I've got nothing wrong with a laid back tune like The Roller, just wish it didn't rip off Lennon so much! I'm the last person to criticize Oasis for stealing ideas, but at least those ideas were expanded upon. This is just put into a lesser context. But despite all of that, it's still an alright tune. I guess I just expected Gem to write more aggressive tunes? I'd give it a 6/10, perfectly competent; nothing more and nothing less. The guitar solo is stuck in my head though, best part of the tune! Can always rely on Gem for a great guitar part! yes!! exactly.......... yes, i agree lennon can go down along gem's name here but what i think is so fucking cool about this beady eye project so far is that liam is doing it right out in the open this time.... i'm talking about his musical 'influences' ;D .... from the artwork, to the riffs, to the lyrics, to his voice.... it's almost like he's paying tribute to all the bands he listened to growing up; world of twist, lennon, the who, the stones, etc. etc. .... yes you can call it 'ripping off' if you'd like.... but it's like he's throwing up two middle fingers to the critics and naysayers, no concealing at all this time and just doing his thing..... and I LOVE IT EDIT: and to the purists who are afraid to like this tune because it sounds too much like lennon, or any other tune because it sounds too much like this, or too much like that... at the end of the day, if it's a tune, it's a tune... this song is great man, just enjoy it for what it is... Fair enough. I mean, they've always worn their influences on their sleeves, but now it's like a badge! I can dig badges though.

I really like the song. Its a good song. But to me, its nothing amazing. After about 2 minutes, I get kinda bored with it and ask "is there anything else?" Of course there is A LOT OF LENNON, it is hard to look past or ignore it. Especially, with me being a purist. I will agree that Oasis did rip the Beatles which I did not mind. But at least Oasis built on those ideas to make their own songs. The Roller in the end is a second tier imitation of a Lennon track. They really did not put any of their own ideas into the song, except for the cool ass solo and the lyrics.
I like how Liam's voice sounds. It was the first thing that I was really impressed with and still am. I think he sounds great on this song. I love the solo part. This is the first song where the solo actually fit the song and worked with the song to make it better. The rest of the songs had solo or riffs, just to have solos and riffs. I like this tune a lot more than I like the previous two.
I dont like to give ratings this quickly. I believe that you should probably wait till the dust settles before rating. Say like a week or two, but if I had to rate it now, I would give it a 6.5/10. Probably will grow to a 7/10

You have instances of the intro to Don't Look Back In Anger or the ending of She's Electric, but Noel never went as far as to blatantly copy a verse melody of The Beatles like Gem did here. Sure, there's tunes like Step Out and Shakermaker, but Noel (arguably, I suppose) added his own twist to all of them. The Roller is just Instant Karma. You can argue that Gem improves on the tune or that it's a tribute, that's fine, but to me it never rises beyond the tune it rips off and that's why Oasis could get away with it in my books. And I never said you said that. Reading comprehension man.

When Noel ripped, at least he put his own thoughts and ideas into it. Even his most egregious rip, say C&A, had its own ideas.
