More than 60% thinks that TR is 8-10. I don't know if this is objectively correct but if the other album tracks are on par with this then the album may be a success with the casual listeners. about 20 people voted before the track was on the radio, it means nothing

8/10, my favourite so far, FLW closely following it.

THE ROLLER is a 'toetapper', but that's about it.....it lacks new direction that will grab the attention of comitted fans, let alone new converts. The tune is expensively recorded and professionally produced, but it harks too much to rock's past glories [which were fine first time around] : too bad it lacks true originality of it's own accord. It's a good song of it's type, but I hope that the album will reveal that Beady Eye strike out more in their own direction, rather than retread Rock's past glories .

Great song! HOW DO WE GET THE MP3!! I need to listen to this song on my long walks to school!!!!
Too many people expect Noel style songs, I think if one were to listen to all Oasis songs written by Liam, Gem, and Andy, as well as, Heavy Stereo, Ride, and Hurricane #1... You will see Beady Eye is simply a combination of all of those. The Roller's guitar solo is very much Gem's style. He is not a melody addict like Noel is, he is glam rock through and through!

There is no way this song is a 9 or a 10. I find it hard to believe this song is even a B. It's unoriginal, uninspired, repetitive (goes relatively nowhere), and I would rather listen to Instant Karma as it's a much better song. There is a reason this song got left off the last 2 albums!!!Not that my opinion means much but I give it a straight C (7.5/10).

I wasn't watching the board. But I know that it was on YouTube more than 10 minutes before it was played on XFM (the radio station I was listening to).
Would that have affected the # of people that voted prior to hearing?
No one should start these types of threads hours before before the release for exactly this reason. Why would you?

8/10. I'm surprised at how much I like it. The whole Instant Karma thing is overblown. The arrangement's definitely similar, but the chorus melody is not the same. I'd give it a weak 8/10, meaning that it skews more toward 7.5 than 8.5. But I really enjoy the song.

A new poll should be done for the song after people have actualy heard it then.

This poll was up about 8 hours before the song was heard - so the results are definitely skewed.

^Nice I think this song will be a hit with casual listeners. The ones that don't care if it's a rip off or not.

^^ It does my head in when it comes to the US. Why can't people stop listening to Kesha and actually respect talented musicians? The US has really killed off rock.

Casual listeners probably won't realize it's a rip-off. lol
How many casual music listeners listen to Lennon solo work? Probably not that many nowadays.

casual music fans probably won't ever hear 'the roller'. Maybe. But I was responding to someone saying that casual listener who don't care it's a rip off will like it. I said that it's because they probably wouldn't even know it's a rip off. They whole conversation is working under the assumption that the casual listener hears it. Let it go.

I put on The Roller for my old man...
By the 10 second mark he was humming Instant Karma, then said, "It's Instant Karma, it's the same fucking song!" lol.

^thats all fine and good, but you're old man isn't going to be buying or listening to modern music anyhow. The casual music fan between 15-35 won't even relate it to Instant Karma unless told to by someone else.

I'm 25 and just listened to Instant Karma and I can hear it in the intro, but otherwise The Roller is a totally different tune to me. I also like TR more than IK - more catchy and addictive vocals.
I normally find with Oasis and now Beady Eye songs that bear similiarties or are influenced by the Beatles, I like the Oasis and Beady Eye songs much more than the Beatles ones on which it leans on. For me its got to do with the fact that due to modern times Oasis and BDI sounds better (more modern and fresh) and makes much much more appeal to me.
But I however do appreciate the contribution of the Beatles to the music scene and love the fact that BDI is influenced by them. To me that's what influences are for; to stand on the shoulder of giants and create music in modern times that the younger generation can appreciate.

Most casual music fans probably couldn't even identify Instant Karma if they heard the actual song. Nobody would bother to make that connection. As for the song itself, I'm surprised at how much I like it. When I first listened to it I thought it was good, but nothing great. Since then though it's getting better with every listen. Judging from the clips I was pretty skeptical about them choosing TR over FLW for the first single. Right now it seems like a good choice though.
