BTL - 8/10 (love it personally just because it is so different) FLW - 8-9/10 (adore it, proper banging track) TR - 7/10 (good singalong but nothing specail - decent enough to listen to) For the 2nd time. I agree with you mate!! (Apart from SOTS Which I would rate higher than a 3 - Dont hate it but give it like a 6.5) FLW is the best release yet. I need to give The Roller a couple more listen's now. Nothing wrong with it being Lennon esq though.

The song is 10 years old! If it was a proper classic it wouldn't have been left off three different Oasis albums. It's alright, but is too much of a rip-off of Instant Karma in the verses. Beady Eye are fulfilling expectations to me so far - a love of all things 60's but fairly average songs. This.

Beady Eye are fulfilling expectations to me so far - a love of all things 60's but fairly average songs. This. Not at all. I'm sorry, and I don't mean this to come across as offensive, but that's a very naive and narrow minded way to view things. Perhaps the lads didn't feel the song would have fit well on other Oasis albums ahead of the songs picked - remember, Noel is notorious for picking the odd wrong tracklisting. Or perhaps, and even more reasonable, is that Gem had it on the back burner, never quite happy with the version(s) he had, and continued to work on it - kind of like what Noel is doing with STC and RM, and what he has done with LTBL. Remember, the song was originally described - all those years ago - as being like a camp fire song. I don't really get that vibe here at all. That makes me lean towards the theory that Gem continued working on it, until he was happy with his output. And that's admirable - instead of releasing material that wasn't meant to be released (see TNOR), he instead worked on it and improved it to a much better musical standing. Just because a song has been floating around unreleased - look at Revolution Song/Solve My Mystery, too, doesn't mean it's automatically bad. There's plentiful reasons for holding back on a song.

I think this forum has lost a lot of objectivity in the last couple months. People are jumping on the bandwagon of any new material and giving it a 9 or 10/10. Even before the song was released there was already 10/10 votes. If TR beats out TSOTL in the other poll I am seriously considering using a different forum. This is complete bullshit, open your eyes people.

It's an 8 for me, not as good as FLW OR BTL but a decent tune. I think this forum has lost a lot of objectivity in the last couple months. Of course none of it could be that people like different stuff. No, that would never do.

I get what you say that some people seem to get carried too much by emotion, but it's music, you know, I'm glad people are feeling it, that's the whole idea of it. If you want reviews as objective as possible, try music magazines, not fan forums. My opinion.

Maybe you should move forums as it seems you need to have more like-minded people around you. A shame considering you appear to be a Dylan fan aswell.

Although I'm really liking it, I've gone for a solid 8
Mainly because I think there's going to be another 4-5 great tunes on the album

I really like it, it got a great chorus which i can imagine would be great live, definitely better than BTL and FLW in my opinion

Even before the song was released there was already 10/10 votes. If TR beats out TSOTL in the other poll I am seriously considering using a different forum. This is complete bullshit, open your eyes people. I want to point out - again - that this poll was set up yesterday, well before the song was released. People yesterday voted without hearing the song, just to ruin the point of the poll, and thus vastly skewing the results. If you want to see what the forum thinks, you're gonna have to ignore the bar graph results of this thread and just weed through the discussions. Not many have given it a 10, and very few a 9. Seems like the general consensus is between a 7.5 and an 8.5 (or ~8 if you want the mean/median - I haven't gone through the thread, but it's just a guesstimate after following this thread for the day)

I would agree with the fact that some have kind of lost objectivity.
But then I am not sure what they are comparing it to. Is it to the favorite songs they have ever heard? Because I like this tune quite a bit...but I would hardly say it is the favorite thing that I have ever heard in my life. Which is what people are saying when they vote 10/10.
It is possible that 20% of the board will say in 5 years that TR is a 10/10 song...but I doubt it. I think it'll end up being between a 7-8 in the end if we do this poll in a year or 2 after we get use to the tunes and have them settled in to our record collections. But I don't mind people being swept up in the hype. I think I'm almost getting used to the hyperbole of this board. lol
No point in getting upset about people being swept up...that is part of the fun for some, I gather.

For me it's absolutely brilliant and Sharrock's drumming is absolutely awesome.
Everyone's entitled to their opinions, but I really think sometimes people just overanalyse the songs to much and then lose out on the enjoyment of the music. I take a much simplier childlike approach, just closing my eyes and giving myself over to the music and letting it lead me. And maybe that's why I absolutely enjoy BDI's music so much without a hint of negativity.
So I'm quite astounded at the tons of negative comments from apparent fans as if they could produce a better song. Start appreciating what has been done and focus less on what should have and could have been done.
The Roller; a tune brilliantly done by brilliantly talented lads.

Dig the solo and the chorus, but man oh man are those verses derivative. I love Liam, I love "Four Letter Word," I (found something to) love (about) "Bring The Light," but these verses really are just "Instant Karma" meets "All You Need Is Love." There is nothing more than that. No attempt at all to be original. It might as well be The Rutles!
And I understand the argument that "John lennon didn't invent that chord progression." I agree; he most certainly did not. But crucially, and obviously, that's where these fellas got it from. It's parody, not creativity.

Exactly my thoughts friend....i certainly enjoy the song, but it is at least idiotic to act as if the above quotes aren't true.... Also,to those who say that liam is sounding exactly like lennon,i say this....BLAST FUCKING INSTANT KARMA AND HEAR THE SINGING...IT IS SOME OF THE BEST FUCKING SINGING EVER RECORDED and liam's weak and nasal delivery is NOT EVEN CLOSE.... Liam is on his best when he is himself(morning glory,my big mouth, slide away, don't go away),not when he is doing imitations.....
