Literally one of the funniest and most shocking threads I've ever read on the forum. Did this "song" really need to go 23 pages into discussion? What the f*ck. Well it was the first single release from the post-Oasis era, so its understandable why there was a lot of intrigue towards this.

Sure it's not amazing, but it certainly stands as one of my favourite Beady Eye tunes. Stand out on DGSS.

It's more so the fact that people were either loving it alot of hating it but I can't understand how much people loved the dated feel of the song.

I really like what they tried to do, and in hindsight, its one of their finest works. Ulitmately the gamble didnt pay off, but it was as far away from Oasis they got.

Id agree with the far away from oasis style which was ultimately their aim .. it was their digsy's dinner. I don't believe for a second it was meant as that and i know its no way crafted as we'll as noel's fun songs but especially at gigs people went crazy and loved it like they do digsy's etc at noels gigs..

That's Beady Eye's story in a nutshell, especially with BE - tried to get away from the Oasis sound, lacked the tunes to do so successfully. Still think BTL is fine btw, a stupid, stupid choice for first release, but not a terrible album track.

I've never rated it on record, but it's a great live song, it's like their version of The Mexican (well...the other way round)
Releasing it as the first single was a bad choice though

After the 2m mark the song goes anywhere. I think the piano is shocking the listeners more than expected. Maybe if they had it replaced with a guitar riff the perception of the song would be different. Some good parts, but overall decent at most. The Meaning of Soul is well better.. And I hope that 22s teaser isn't part of a cover! Beady Eye were doomed by the start. This post proves it.

Not a bad song, and I like how it's a throwback to 50s rock n roll. My beef with the song is the fact that it was released as the first post-Oasis single (Four Letter Word would've been brilliant instead), and that it's a little too repetitious at the end, but otherwise, it's a good throwback song that Liam did an alright job with to pen.

I don't mind it, especially when live but it shouldn't have been the first song we heard from Beady Eye. Needed to come out guns blazing and show the world Four Letter Word.

I'm the complete opposite. The main reason I'm not a fan of DGSS is because it feels very dated upon arrival. The reason BE soars for me and a follow up is how fresh it felt, and didn't go looking into the past to come up with tunes. When they released Flick of the Finger, I was astonished of how different it sounded and much better the tunes had become. Bring the Light obviously sounds nothing like Oasis, but not in a good way like in the case of Flick of the Finger. Fresh, explosive, innovative, interesting, mysterious - these are all qualities that I love to hear in music.

These were the days. I had school that day so as soon as I'd finished me and my bro Zac ended up downloading it down mine and we hooked my laptop up to my gaming chair. Then after he left I read through this same thread (I think). Good times.
It's not very good though.

This song is really bad. I mean seriously. Never should've been the first single, let alone the first single. LAG b sides were better than this! On a side note, does anyone remember that Noel said in the CY interviews that female backing vocalists would've never happened in Oasis because Oasis was regarded by other members as a "lads' band"? Well Noel, would you have a quick listen to this song? Hear that in the background? This was made by the other members of Oasis, innit?

It's not...I genuinely don't like it and its sound, there's at least 10 other Beady Eye tunes I'd rather listen to, as I don't like The Mexican and I think the production on that track is quite bad and makes it sound flat They both work incredibly well live fpr some reason though

I quite like it, I even did when it first came out. I think if it was just a random albumk track that arrived with no fanfare we'd all enjoy it. No way in hell should it have been the first thing we heard from them though! What a stupid, stupid decision...

The rock ending that was played in 2013/14 is the best thing they done. Absolute class.

Fresh, explosive, innovative, interesting, mysterious - these are all qualities that I love to hear in music. I like those qualities too, but sometimes a little step back to where music has come from is good, too, just not as the lead single from the first album in the post-Oasis era. That was a travesty, to say the least. OT, but I also agree with your comments about BE. They needed an album like that after all of the retro-ness of DGSS. One or two songs would've been a nice treat of retro-ness, not a whole album's worth of it. That was an overload, and unfortunate to hear, especially considering they had Steve-fucking-Lillywhite working with them.
