As much as I love The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, it took Muse 10 years to have a hit in America with Absolution. It was only since BHaR that they can attest to being a huge band. Kasabian on the other hand, were at one point regarded as a hope in a post-Libertines world, but they've easily disproved the doubters with West Ryder (which didn't have "big production" at all), they proved they were more then just Madchester wannabes that had synths. I guess I was a bit hasty in saying that they didn't work hard to make it big. I just feels like neither band has songs that are as well written as Oasis's. I don't picture either band doing the sorts of acoustic performances Noel has done, and that's mostly because the songs don't stand well enough on their own (I'm sure they've done a few acoustically, but I'm speaking for the most part). Also, I'm not really a fan of the dance rhythms in Kasabian's stuff, and that might be a large reason that I dislike them. It's surprising, since The Stone Roses are one of my favorite bands. I guess I see the appeal of Kasabian, but they're just not suited to my taste. Muse on the other hand seems like a Queen/Radiohead hybrid, and, while that obviously leads to large concerts, I don't see them going down as a classic band really. I'd much rather just listen to Queen or Radiohead.

Fair enough then, I think it's fair to say for both bands that they don't really have any songs or even (at the very least) one specific song that really pushes them beyond other bands. I mean Oasis, at first, had Live Forever, etc. Muse and Kasabian have their hits, but they don't haven't released anything to warrant a title such as "best band in the world".

Best band in the world is either Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street band. Both released damn good records this year, and cannot be touched live. Random, 3.5 hour set lists.
Muse completely ripped off Blondie's "Call me" for their latest single.

Muse completely ripped off Blondie's "Call me" for their latest single. They've ripped off about sixty artists on this new album, but that doesn't stop it from being fucking ace.

Do you think there is or ever will be a band that will have a fan base as big as Oasis had in the 90's? Lets just take Knebworth as a way to judge; is there any band that could fill it 2 nights, let alone make millions of people apply for tix?

THe music industry has changed so much that there will never be another chance for a new band to become that big to play those kinds of gigs. There's just too much access to artists w/facebook, myspace, twitter, youtube, paparazzi sites, etc. Before, all you had was the videos on mtv, magazines, and the radio, etc. Think about it, we see Liam answering questions on prettygreen.com No new band will ever have that opportunity again. It would have to take an incredibly special band to do that.

muse's best album i guarantee aint half as good as oasis's best - morning glory, also are muse's b-sides any good like the masterplan, stay young, rockin' chair? NO.
matt bellamy sings more like a woman than a woman does imo, they're definitely not the best biggest band at the moment.they'd win for worst band imo...all that with q awards,it's obvious oasis wouldn't have won anything as they've recently split up,they give awards to people who's available.
u2 are bigger

Yeah, Oasis didn't win because they don't exist anymore, that explains it. And that first comment of yours? Fucking hell.

They've sold out here in Portugal, and I didn't get a ticket...But I've seen them last year, so I'm not that bothered. They're pretty good, but, I mean...Oasis didn't sell out!

Best band that's still active today is The Rolling Stones, but they're past their glory days.
I can't decide who the best band in the world right now is.

Most popular? Surely U2 are still miles ahead. They've been more active, which does go a long way, but wasn't A Bigger Bang the most grossing tour ever? At least up there in the top five.

Best live show I have ever seen. I sincerely hope they plan on extending their tour in 2010. I'd hate to have missed out on seeing them because the Inland Revenue can't do their sums properly.

No, I meant that The Rolling Stones are the second best band ever, and unless John Lennon & George Harrison have been ressurected and The Beatles have reformed, then they're the greatest band in the world in a way. But it's true that they haven't made a half decent album since Steel Wheels in 1989, and then Tattoo You before that.
