With Oasis calling it quits Muse have taken over as the best band in the world. Their new album gets better to me with each listen. Watch any live performance on youtube and you might just be blown away. Right now I would kill to see them live. Each Matt, Dom, and Chris are all very talented musicians. To me, The Resistance is a better album than Kasabian's new West Ryder

A: Muse is a poor man's Radiohead. B: Radiohead could never be the best band in the world. So, Muse could never be the best band in the world.

Right now. The biggest band in the world is The Beatles again. Next week though, that will probably change.

I wouldn't disagree. Muse are ridiculously OTT and they're not pretentious like Radiohead. When you hear Matthew Bellamy speak on the radio about songs, he laughs at a lot of the topics these songs are based on, unlike Radiohead who are like 'yeah, we're trying to make a statement'.
They throw the kitchen sink at everything which is what I love about them.
There's similarities to Radiohead, but a lot more fun plus Bellamy has a much more powerful voice than Thom Yorke.

Matt Bellamy is the most pretentious man in music. He makes good music. But to quote a review of BHAR, "I've heard Britney Spears sing lyrics with more sincerity than Bellamy's vague space-pondering".

Matt Bellamy is the most pretentious man in music. He makes good music. But to quote a review of BHAR, "I've heard Britney Spears sing lyrics with more sincerity than Bellamy's vague space-pondering". You think that's pretentious? Try this load of bull shit: "Street Spirit is our purest song, but I didn't write it. It wrote itself. We were just its messengers; its biological catalysts. Its core is a complete mystery to me, and, you know, I wouldn't ever try to write something that hopeless. All of our saddest songs have somewhere in them at least a glimmer of resolve. Street Spirit has no resolve. It is the dark tunnel without the light at the end. It represents all tragic emotion that is so hurtful that the sound of that melody is its only definition. We all have a way of dealing with that song. It's called detachment. Especially me; I detach my emotional radar from that song, or I couldn't play it. I'd crack. I'd break down on stage. That's why its lyrics are just a bunch of mini-stories or visual images as opposed to a cohesive explanation of its meaning. I used images set to the music that I thought would convey the emotional entirety of the lyric and music working together. That's what's meant by 'all these things you'll one day swallow whole'. I meant the emotional entirety, because I didn't have it in me to articulate the emotion. I'd crack... Our fans are braver than I to let that song penetrate them, or maybe they don't realise what they're listening to. They don't realise that Street Spirit is about staring the fucking devil right in the eyes, and knowing, no matter what the hell you do, he'll get the last laugh. And it's real, and true. The devil really will get the last laugh in all cases without exception, and if I let myself think about that too long, I'd crack. I can't believe we have fans that can deal emotionally with that song. That's why I'm convinced that they don't know what it's about. It's why we play it towards the end of our sets. It drains me, and it shakes me, and hurts like hell every time I play it, looking out at thousands of people cheering and smiling, oblivious to the tragedy of its meaning, like when you're going to have your dog put down and it's wagging its tail on the way there. That's what they all look like, and it breaks my heart. I wish that song hadn't picked us as its catalysts, and so I don't claim it. It asks too much. I didn't write that song" That's possibly the stupidest thing i've ever read and i've read the Da Vinci Code

Pretentious: 1. making (unjustified) claims to special merit or importance
Seeing as Radiohead have won 3 Grammy's and nominated for around 14, and consistently mentioned by critics as one of the best bands around, he can speak as he wishes. Last time I checked, the best Muse can muster up is an NME.

The hatred for Radiohead here is stupid. Sure, they're a bit up their own asses, but they've written some incredible albums. Jonny Greenwood is a master at the guitar and skillful on other instruments as well. Sure their explanation may be complicated, pretentious, and have a whiff of a superiority complex, but it's not any worse (or better) then such a simpleton explanation saying all of your songs are about getting drunk and having sex.

With Oasis calling it quits Muse have taken over as the best band in the world. This is madness. Oasis haven't been the best band in the world for at least three or four years.

Radiohead are arrogant and stuck up, but not in a charming way. Thom Yorke claims he's a fan of Coldplay, yet calls their songs 'lounge music'. If that's his opinion of one of the bands he actually likes, well, it just goes to show what a pompous little arse he is.

it's all about personal criteria. I don't know if Muse are the best band in the world right now, but they put on great albums consistently and they're fucking amazing live. to me, they're miles better than coldplay, kasabian or KOL

I'm really getting into the new album. As for being Grammy nominated or whatever else the sort, I've never seen how it means you're great. The analogy with Radiohead is slightly annoying since I haven't liked radiohead since they stopped doing good rock. Listening to the new album right now, bought it at Target guess they're important enough for Target to get them LOVE LOVE LOVE MUSE and I wish that instead of the Killers, I could see Muse tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Killers is better than nothing though)

Though their compositions themselves may be good, Muse always sounds incredibly insincere. The emotions is very overwrought and artificial sounding to me, and Matthew Bellamy sounds like he's perpetually on the verge of orgasm. They're alright, but Radiohead and Queen have already done what they do better. It's all personal taste, but Matthew Bellamy probably has my least favorite voice of all the popular bands at the moment.

I never liked Muse really. In truth, I never gave them a chance till I heard their single off Absolution. I've slowly started liking them and listening to their stuff since then. And the the Resistance came out. It DOES get better with every listen. It is a truly fantastic album. And then I see them live with U2 at Giants Stadium on Wednesday,
... Dear fucking god.
Oasis, and oasis are my life, could NEVER do something like that.
Muse, biggest band in the world. Cant say best, as that is a personal opinion. But they are indeed the biggest.
Shit, even Bono said so.
