Blech.
How many people are really going to see this? The 4th film was a complete disaster that fucked up Indiana Jones way more than the Prequels fucked up Star Wars imo, and it will be 11 years old when this new one is released.
But I understand why Disney is doing this. Financially, it's a better bet to push Indiana Jones than what could be the next John Carter or Lone Ranger.

The horror. The horror. Lucas may be gone off this project but Spielberg was the guy who destroyed Skulls. And he is part of this new film which will feature Indiana at age 80! Well I think Spielberg still makes brilliant films - not great - but still brilliant. Bridge of Spies last year was excellent, and in terms of family films like War Horse and Tintin, he is still more than capable (also The BFG coming out later this year with Mark Rylance - filmed partly in Orkney!). Like Star Wars, I don't think there's a lot to lose with this and much to gain, primarily because the preceding films were shit. But then again, Ford is old.... on the other hand, he still kicked ass in the latest Star Wars! Cause for optimism - Shia La Bouef isn't in it, but cause for concern has to be the overuse of CGI. While Crystal Skull was all over the place and had annoying turds like Shia La Bouef in it, my main gripe was the CGI. The old Indy films didn't use that, and the action set pieces were amazing. Did anyone really believe that jungle chase with the monkeys in Indy 4? No, it was shit. I'll be honest - I'm like a manic depressive when it comes to a potential Indy film. One minute I'm really optimistic about it, the next I dread it like it is going to be the worst film ever.

They'll make it happen and make it happen well.. Disney seems to be handling Star Wars so they'll handle Indiana Jones.. I'd guess at the vary least after Indy 5 they'll sub market it as 'Chris Pratt' as an "Indiana Jones story" only much better more bias to main series.. Vs the 'rogue one' set up ..

Sorry to rain on the parade but David Koepp has been hired to write the script, who wrote, yes you've guessed it, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Expectations surely gave plummeted now?

This film isn’t going to happen. Certainly not with Harrison Ford - which if it’s the case, I’m not interested.
Disney think they can do a James Bond and change the actor. You can’t do that with Indy because the original trilogy are genuinely great films - Raiders is one of the greatest films ever. Crystal Skull was dreadful (I thought it was fine on first viewing as a teenager, it gets worse each time you see it) but changing the actor is beyond sacrilege.
You can’t say that about Bond. I like Bond, but I don’t think there’s ever been a genuinely great Bond film - Casino Royale was brilliant and I enjoyed Skyfall a lot, but even the ones considered ‘great’ like Goldfinger are unbelievably corny. So it’s kind of less precious in a way. Also, if Spielberg however thinks that Koepp or Kasdan’s son (as if writing a great Indy script is passed down through the genes...) or that other bloke who writes a TV sitcom are good enough to write a story for this, then it’s obvious he doesn’t give a shit and is probably only in it for an easy payday before retirement!

The Crystal Skull is one of the worst films I have ever tried to watch. Turned it off before it was even halfway through.

This film doesn't exist as far as I'm concerned. Indy, his father, Brody and Sallah ride off into the sunset and that's the last time we ever see Indiana Jones. Perfect ending.

Spielberg to opt out of directing Indy 5 apparently. People in uproar - why? As far as I'm concerned:
(b) Spielberg can't make decent blockbuster movies anymore. CGI drenched nonsense is all it amounts to these days. (b) His scriptwriter choices for blockbuster films these days are shockingly bad (David Koepp anyone, utter abomination of a writer). (c) He directed Crystal Skull. Enough said.
Star Wars films were just a cheap nostalgia fest under Disney, the Marvel superhero films are so sooo boring and loud and CGI drenched and cliched, so I don't have hopes for this franchise.
There is a smart and poignant film to be made about mortality and ageing with Indy 5 (the old films always hinted at this) but Disney don't go into films with a cerebral mindset. Look at the Batman reboot under Christopher Nolan and the Bond reboot with Casino Royale to see how to make smart, smash hit blockbusters. Fascinating to observe how these franchises are wildly successful due to relying on storyline rather than CGI and special effects? Indy 5 could do that, but I doubt it will happen, certainly not under Spielberg (who will still be a hands on producer regardless) and Disney's guidance.

This is another one of those 'this doesn't have to be made', but I'm looking forward to seeing if it goes some way to undoing the damage caused by Indy IV.
Phoebe Waller Bridger as his god daughter companion instead of that incel turd in a leather jacket (Shia La Bouef) is a big step forward. Fleabag is great, Even Stevens... not so much.

I’m excited for it and it does look good but why does it always have to be nazi as the bad guys? We can’t come up with anything else? This is now the 3rd movie out of 5.

It's not original at all but Nazis make the best villains, particularly in historical adventure sagas. No other villains in Indy have carried quite as much threat to be fair. As believable as the good v evil concept can get in blockbusters.

Saw Dial of Destiny yesterday, I was a little worried after the initial reviews but I liked it…I’d rate it around Temple of Doom, better than Crystal Skull.
My Score: 80% out of 100% on the Rotten 🍅 scale.
God bless.
