Better not have Shia La Bouef.
Seriously, what was it with George Lucas and shit actors? Remember that bloke who played Anakin in the prequels? Never heard from him ever again.

no no no no no no no. It was always going to happen. Everything's remade or sequeled these days... You know what needs to be remade? I thought of this one the other day: 'Porky's'. Think about it.

To be fair to Hayden Christensen, few actors could have played that part well. The scripts were atriciously bad, and the character of Anakin Skywalker was one-dimensional throughout the entire prequel trilogy. How anyone could have told George Lucas, "Great script!" is beyond me. He wasn't given much to do with the role, but did the best he could with it. And that definitely showed in Episode III.
And still, after all of that, it effectively ruined his career.

You have to wonder why Lucas never took heed of Harrison Ford's advice: You can type this shit George, but you sure can't say it!

As for a new Indy movie, if it's not got Harrison Ford or Spielberg attached, it just won't feel like an Indiana Jones movie to me.

At least Hayden had some movies in '08 and '09 with other top-billed actors.

True that, but I felt that film had Lucas's grubby mitts all over it. Read between the lines in Spielberg interviews and he pretty much admits he only did the film out of obligation and it seems his heart wasn't in it. Whoever directed that story and those actors would fail badly. Harrison Ford is still a great actor, and Spielberg is still a great director, so my blame lies entirely at Lucas's feet!

Well let's be fair. Steven was there everyday. Lucas was not. Steven did the casting. Lucas did not. I know this is probably not a popular opinion but Speilberg hasn't been in his prime in decades. His last truly great film was Saving Private Ryan. That was almost 20 years ago. Everything else is vey hit or miss but that's ok. Very few artists remain in their prime. Take Coppola, hasn't made a great film in decades as well. He eventually made "Jack". Enough said.

I quite enjoyed Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal but I definitely agree: Spielberg best years are behind him. Even those two movies were from more than 10 years ago...

But of course, his greatest films are behind him. Though I had no idea he was in charge of casting - Shia La Boeuf just seemed like a Lucas style casting of the Star Wars prequel type. My enduring memory of Crystal Skull seven years ago in the cinema was the film ending and the lights going up, and everyone behind me first words being '..............aliens?'.

Lincoln was good, not great. Daniel Day-Lewis was brilliant. Catch Me If You Can is entertaining but will never sit with his classics. Minority Report had cool ideas but was merely above average. Colin Farrell was prob the best part.

I've never watched this one (the first three were great), but I agree with you Matt re CGI. Can't stand it. Can't stand all these Marvel/superhero films that seem to be released on a weekly basis too. Utter shite. This was on a couple of weeks back so I watched it. Deary me, it was crap.

Colin Farrell was prob the best part. Interesting, I thought Minority Report was a really great film. On the other hand, aside from the first half hour which is one of the greatest pieces of filmmaking ever, I found Saving Private Ryan overrated! Although he won't ever make a film as great as Jaws, Raiders, Schindlers List ever again (who would though) I think he's still a great director (his latest one Bridge of Spies is getting rave reviews) so anything he does I take with interest and give him the right script and he will do brilliantly I think. Of the interviews I watched for Crystal Skull, he never seemed enthusiastic about doing Indiana Jones and it seems it was out of obligation towards his friend George Lucas. Lucas can get lost, but I still can't think of a better director to do Indiana Jones than Spielberg.

The horror. The horror. Lucas may be gone off this project but Spielberg was the guy who destroyed Skulls. And he is part of this new film which will feature Indiana at age 80!

There's a lot to learn from the last outing: - Avoid CGI - No Shia LaBeouf - No inter-dimensional beings / aliens - Avoid kitchen-related appliances - Tell worthwhile story Perhaps Disney can do a decent job of honing the story.
