Thanks for the trailer - looks really good. little story about Indiana Jones films... There's this girl whose big sister told her that the reason the people's heads exploded (in raiders of the lost arc) was because they didn't shut their eyes when they prayed. And if she didn't shut her eyes, it could happen to her. LOL She believed it for a couple of years!!

didn't turn out to be that great...i did like the beginning, though - with the midgets, the location of the crate with the body, the bomb and getting in the refrigerator.
God bless.

The horror.......the horror..... More like the utter disappointment. Utter, utter disappointment. An all-time classic South Park episode.............. It really seems that post 1983, everything George Lucas touched on the big screen turned to absolute shit. I mean he put a serious stain on two extremely popular and successful franchises just to squeeze extra dollars out of it. I hate that Crystal Skull ever happened. Really sucked the wind out of the great ending (we thought) in Last Crusade. Thank fuck J.J. Abrams can possibly right the ship with Star Wars Episodes 7, 8 and 9.

I wasn't too hot on the second one, but that's because I wish he would've used some another plotline. Instead of making a beeline straight for the Khan storyline as the second movie.

Lucas has fucked up a bit of his legacy for sure. That last Indiana Jones movie was perhaps he's worst offense.
I think Starwars I and III aren't all that bad if you can ignore some of the really horrible decision making on his part. He created very poor characters (Jar Jar), casted key roles horribly, and wrote some of the worst dialogue ever put in a script. That is a lot to look past but the narrative and idea behind the Starwars universe made them mildly enjoyable for me. The main problem was that no one put Lucas in his place when he decided to sabotage his own creation.

I LOVED the 2009 Star Trek film for it's fresh take on the characters and alternate timeline. Star Trek Into Darkness stole too much from Wrath of Khan which to me was a massive mistake. Did I enjoy watching it? Yes but it'll never compare to the film it basically stole from and flipped certain plot points around. What Abrams did there is one of the reasons I fear he might fuck up some important Star Wars shit. We shall see.

The main problem was that no one put Lucas in his place when he decided to sabotage his own creation. Attack of The Clones was a flaming pile of dog shit. Phantom Menace at least had Liam Neeson (one of the best Jedi Knights) and the best lightsaber battle in the saga. I didn't need to see a Jar Jar character nor a 10 year old Anakin. That sorta took away from the mystery of Darth Vader. Revenge of The Sith to me felt extremely rushed, with some awful dialogue mixed in. I didn't "buy" Anakin's transfer to the dark side. It was too swift and when Palpatine couldn't save Padme, why didn't Anakin turn on him too? He turned on everyone else, including his long time friends and only true family. The Obi-Wan/Anakin fight was kinda lame too. Enough with the CGI! Fighting on rocks flying through lava lakes? Gimme a break.

I have no faith in J.J Abrams, those Star Trek films were terrible. The first one was really good IMO besides the weak villain. STID had its moment (the opening scene, the space jump), but as many have said it's too similar to Kahn. It's a straight rip off of a Spielberg movie but I love the first 3/4 of Super 8, MI3 is the best of the series, the pilot of Lost is one of the best first episodes of any series ever, and Fringe was the best sci fi tv in the last ten years. I trust JJ more than Lucas. Star Wars( its not called a New Hope) is great but Empire is so much better because he didnt direct it. I dont know why Spielberg gets a pass on KOTCS. He's going through the motions too. He should have told Lucas the screenplay was ridiculous. The double triple cross from Mac is ridiculous. The monkey swinging is the worst thing he's ever put on film. People hate Lebouf but I think the father/son stuff works well between them but he's not a very convincing tough guy.

Ancient thread.
I actually really enjoy this movie. The action is decent, the story is interesting and the locations are really great.
I think Shia Lebeoufs part(especially as Tarzan) is ridiculous. I like the idea of Indy having a kid who he goes on adventures with, but he shouldn't have been so over the top, more so than his father. That's absurd.
The villain could have been better. I suppose Cate Blanchett did fine, but, I don't think they should have went the German villain route...again... that ending with her in the alien throne room was sort of bizarre too.
Anyways, if this were the only Indy movie, I think it would be really good. But considering the first and third movie deal with heavy Christian related plots, having one that is alien related is contradictory and sort of ruins the continuity.
However if I had to rate the films, I'd say:
1. Last Crusade 2. Raiders 3. Crystal Skull 4. Temple of Doom

Old thread! I first joined this forum about the time this film was released.
I love the Indiana Jones films, probably the only real adventure mega-franchise I love - couldn't care less about Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings. As a kid, Raiders was my favourite film and to this day still occupies a place in my top 3 films. The Last Crusade's my second favourite, followed by the Temple of Doom - both very worthy sequels in my opinion.
And then there's Crystal Skull......
Look, I don't hate this film, in fact, I rather enjoyed it when I went to see it and of course I'd buy the DVD to complete the set. On it's own, it's decent, but weighing it up against the first three then I always consider it a crushing disappointment. It's a messy film, with well accomplished actors playing poor one dimensional characters. This problem reaches its nadir with Shia La Bouef - one of the most irritating and worst actors ever. For a start, I cannot imagine him being Indy's charismatic, swashbuckling son - this is a guy who found fame as a gawky school kid in the childrens programme Even Stevens for god's sake. We shouldn't have been surprised - Lucas has previous of course with awful actors, hiring That Shit Bloke to play Anakin Skywalker in Episode II and III.
It's a case of Lucas quite literally losing the plot. Aliens, I mean come on. The whole context of sci-fi aliens is at complete odds with the whole setting of the film - it's just something you don't expect when you start to watch the film. Some may say 'you are watching an Indiana Jones film, what do you expect?' But perhaps being familiar to our Sunday school lessons makes the Christian themes of earlier films easy to accept and because the legend of the Holy Grail and Ark of the Covenant allows our minds to go wild with imagination but crucially not beyond the bounds, those films have that sense of wonderment and charm to it. Crystal Skull is sorely lacking in charm - there's no memorable piece of dialogue in it, none of the quick witted exchanges of the previous films.
And the CGI! God damn it, it's terrible - it's like I'm watching a Playstation game. CGI is a lazy lazy way out, and any of the ingenuity and work ethic to make the effects realistic in the 80s have been completely wiped out with todays film makers. Also, it leads to overblown and ridiculous scenes. I think CGI has been incredibly detrimental to Hollywood - replacing explosions with an actual script and leading to so much complacency in not just plot but action sequences, so just imagine a world without CGI. We wouldn't have George Lucas at his very worst, and for the sake of mankind, Michael Bay would never even have made a film - what a wonderful world that would be. Most of Indiana Jones action sequences look realistic, this film doesn't. And it's such a shame because we expect Indiana Jones films to be unique in that they are old fashioned like - relying on a rollercoaster plot and the action sequences being actually clever. We expect Crystal Skull to stay within the parameters of the original films, but since it doesn't, it's just another modern summer Hollywood blockbuster of which has become incredibly tired. At it's worst, it has more in common with a Michael Bay film than the original and that's sad.
Do I blame Spielberg for this? Not really - he's still one of the best directors around, and this film is completely at odds with his relatively recent, and brilliant work like Lincoln, Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can. The most grounded and sane parts of this film are his doing, and reading his interviews - read between the lines - he pretty much knows how shit it is. He's an amiable guy in interviews, so he would nevr say 'it's shit'. A pretty telling quote here:
"I sympathize with people who didn’t like the MacGuffin because I never liked the MacGuffin. George and I had big arguments about the MacGuffin. I didn’t want these things to be either aliens or inter-dimensional beings. But I am loyal to my best friend."
Also, when discussing the potential next film, he alludes to the fact he disliked some of Lucas's stories saying:
"Whether I like the stories or not, George has broken all the stories. He is working on Indy V."
So there you have it - and writing all this, I've barely scratched the surface as to why I think poorly of this film. Now you come to mention it, I do fucking hate it!

I'm surprised at the length of my post, but it shows that I must really really really care. 2008 - huge disappointments from Indiana Jones and Oasis - two of my favourite things! If you think I've got problems with Crystal Skull, don't even get me started on Dig Out Your Soul.....
