19 years ago today Oasis released their Don't Believe The Truth album, christ it'll be 20 years old next year. That DBTT is almost 20 years old has just killed me inside. (I’m fine now but that really hit hard)

That’s a terrific memory. I’ve heard Bruce is like that but to really experience the power of that presence and in those conditions really is something. What songs hit you most that night? That's a tough one. Every song seemed to be a showstopper. It was pretty raucous and relentless. Gave us in the crowd what we needed and it was as much of a 'greatest hits' setlist that you could possibly get from him. But I thought Racing In The Street was spectacular. The lights were dimmed, but in the terrible conditions the lighting had a haze to it and you could see it lashing sideways with the wind blowing. Bruce stood out from the stage, getting soaked and reciting the lyrics "she just stares off alone into the night/with the eyes of one who hates for just being born" was beautiful. That kind of serenity in chaotic weather just added to the whole performance, it felt quite surreal and he absolutely had the crowd, who were in silence, in the palm of his hands. There was another moment that really really moved me on the final song I'll See You In My Dreams from his latest album. It was a solo acoustic performance about mortality. Beside me though was a mother and her son. Her head was rested on his shoulder while he gently held her, and both were in tears. They were quietly grieving for an absent father/husband while the Stadium of Light gently echoed the refrain 'I'll see you in my dreams'. In the situation, he wisely left the heavy and challenging stuff off the setlist (e.g. Nebraska and Tunnel of Love), so the mood never dropped from one extreme to the other. Despite the scale of the show, I've never seen something so big be easily brought down to something so intimate and introspective like the moments above. He's the best showman around, but he's not just a people pleaser. That's just the cherry on the top because first and foremost he is a songwriter of the absolute elite. I can be wowed by any rock spectacle, but to be deeply moved by those songs and lyrics is another thing altogether. His all round game in music is the greatest when we take into account his artistry and, like in Sunderland last week, his epic performances. I could talk and talk endlessly about him, last Wednesday gave me no doubt at all that for me he is the greatest. Very thoughtful reply, thanks! I love that you had such a moving experience. My friend is seeing him in July so maybe he’ll get the same.

I guess they are done with the singles for this album Been hearing Raise Your Hands a good few tunes lately, so it seems to still be making an impact. I don’t think they’ll be another single though. No point for us especially with no b-sides.

I’ve only listened to it twice but I really like it. It’s a great complement to Fat Pop as it’s follow up and has a lot of the gentle soul and acoustic vibes of On Sunset. Too soon to say where this will place in Weller’s pantheon for me but it’s definitely a solid album.
Favourite tracks so far are Ship of Fools (perfect vibe to start off), I Woke Up, Sleepy Hollow and Rise Up Singing. Really intrigued by My Best Friend’s Coat.
Going to see him in November!

Stood in the pissing rain last night, resulting in a cold today, all for watching Bruce Springsteen in Sunderland. I was soaked through and it risked being a miserable washout. But once he came on stage, his presence lifted the mood by laughing off the weather and embracing it all. He really got in on the conditions, braving the elements for three hours and joined the crowd in getting soaked, putting on the most energetic, euphoric and emotional show I've ever seen. I completely forgot about the rain and three hours rattled by in no time. Saw him 11 years ago in Glasgow, so a long time but I always think I'm getting older and too cynical these days to have heroes or be blown away by anything, to the point that I won't enjoy these things as much anymore. But it takes a genius to tap into youthful innocence and wonder and that happened last night. He was great. The E Street Band was great. It was without a doubt the greatest gig I've ever been to. It's everything that music is meant to be. Here's a wonderful helicopter shot from last night. That’s a terrific memory. I’ve heard Bruce is like that but to really experience the power of that presence and in those conditions really is something. What songs hit you most that night?

Given it’s got the Monnow Valley and Sawmills studios sessions (and the Liam sung Sad Song as the one big enticer), it’s better than I expected. I’ll get the CD, I’m fine with that. I really just expected a colour vinyl or picture disc or something.
I do wish they’d just chuck in all the bits we know exist that haven’t been released so we can enjoy them in our lifetime. Who’s gonna be around to enjoy the 50th anniversary rerelease? (Well, I will be but I’ll be 60…)

I like the Tibet gig performance because it’s different, it stands out. Cast No Shadow on solo electric was great but doing Helter Skelter solo electric, that was a gutsy move. Loved it.

Hi, Not sure if I can do this here but I have a general admission ticket to this upcoming gig and can no longer go. I’ve got my tickets on Dice so I can transfer to a friend. If you’re in the London area or elsewhere and want to go, let me know and we can figure it out.
I’m sad I can’t go but the ticket can’t go to waste! So asking here first.

Is anyone else going to the Oasis exhibition in Manchester on the weekend of 14-16th June? There’s a Q&A with Brian cannon. I’m very excited about that!

Manic Street Preachers fans: Where does one n00b completely start? Do you like Guns N Roses? Their first two albums. Oasis? Everything Must Go and This Is My Truth. After that if you like the more poetic lyrics you go back to The Holy Bible. Want more vibes like Truth? Lifeblood. More excess like the first album? Know Your Enemy. A revival of the britpop albums(truth, EMG) Send Away The Tigers and Postcards from a Young Man. If you want something more alike The Holy Bible then Journal for Plague lovers. Futurology and Rewind The Film were recorded at the same time but have different vibes. So for short Punk/GnR sound Generation Terrorists Gold Against The Soul The Holy Bible Know Your Enemy Journal for Plague Lovers Futurology Orchestral/Britpop sound Everything Must Go This is my truth Lifeblood Send Away The Tigers Postcards from A Young Man Rewind The Film I didn't put the 3 lastest Manics albums To me, their last two albums The Ultra Vivid Lament and Resistance is Futile are in my top 5, up there with Everything Must Go, the Holy Bible and Rewind the Film. This is a band that, like Ride, are as good as ever or better as they age. Maturity suits their music well. I’d also highly rank Send Away the Tigers as their next best and a very accessible record. I like Know Your Enemy more than This is My Truth but both are similarly weighty albums of similar quality. Terrific songs on each but also enough filler. Can’t really get into the first two albums apart from some of the bigger songs.

We're On Our Way Now is just alright. Flying on the Ground on the other hand..... Love it so much. Wish it was performed live instead of WOOWN on the CS tour. I didn’t think too much of WOOWN but hearing it live at a gig did boost my enjoyment of it significantly since. That said, I’d hardly say that it’s one of his best. Good b-side or album track but not a single.

Before or during the chasing yesterday tour I'm sure I remember an interview where he said they rehearsed it but didn't sound that good unfortunately I recall that too, though I thought it may have been done once before WBTM’s tour, or maybe on a sound check setlist.

If we’re getting Shakermaker we should find out around the 29th of May. Has there been any word that this may happen? I love Shakermaker and the cover art is one of my favourite of all the Brian Cannon artworks.

Love this!! Can’t wait to hear more and learn about the recording info. For Anyone is one of my favourite Beady Eye songs (and especially DGSS highlights). I think it’s very La’s. If it had been a long lost La’s song, I think it would been very much liked.

I was thinking earlier today that next year Don't Believe The Truth turns 20 but I'm not expecting any special release for it though. That one definitely deserves an expanded reissue with the 66 tracks apparently recorded for it, the complete demos, and of course the abandoned DIV sessions!!

Listened to it a couple times so far and, although I prefer TINASP, this album is quite good. The 80s sound suits it, it feels like a powerful and heavy album (maybe given it’s 60 minutes) without being too much to digest in one listen. Last Frontier and Portland Rocks are my current favourites, followed by I Came to See the Wreck.
Seeing them in September at the Roundhouse. Very excited about that!

Jake Bugg setlist, in case anyone’s interested. I only know his first two albums but I really like him. Sometimes you can close your eyes and feel like you’re listening to Lee Mavers. Just my opinion…I know Noel’s compared him to Dylan and the Arctic Monkeys but I get a La’s/early Bee Gees feel from him. Strange creatures There’s a beast and we all feed it Trouble town You and me Seen it all I wrote the book Taste it Slumville sunrise Simple as this People of all kinds (?) Two fingers Lightning bolt Track 10 is "All Kinds Of People" I put my Wolverhampton recording up last night, it's not the best as nobody was paying attention to him and talked all the way through his set, but better than nothing live4ever.proboards.com/thread/94508/jake-bugg-2024-03-wolverhamptonThanks, I look forward to checking it out!

Anyone in London, there’s a massive load of Oasis 7” and 12” singles at Reckless Records and Sister Ray on Berwick street (the famous MG cover street). I was there Saturday and bought a few things. What’s there is:
-Sunday morning call 12” (£100) -little by little 7” (£40) -who feels love? 12” (£60) -little by little 12” (£75) -some might say 12” (£80) -shakermaker 12” (£80) -D’you know what I mean 7” (£25) -don’t look back in anger 7” (£50) -I’m outta time 7” (£25) -I’m outta time remixes 7” (£25) -the shock of the lightning 7” (£25) -falling down 7” (£25) -some might say Japanese import CD (£25) -standing on the shoulders 2000 press (£100) -dig out your soul fan club box set (£40) -bootleg 12” of a European BHN 97 gig (£20) -DM, MG chasing the sun boxes (£200 each) -Liam’ WMWN one sided 7” singles (£10 I think)
I bought 7” copies of SCYHO and SMC as well as a 12” of RWI. I found as much in 1 day at these two shops than I have in 23 years of searching in person!

He was fucking incredible vocally at the Troxy gig, easily his best vocals out of all the gigs I've been to I was there too, just been busy and haven’t had a chance to post my thoughts on the gig. I was in the standing pit up front a few rows back, Squire’s side. Apart from the length of the gig (which I was aware of), I was very happy. It was really tough to choose highlight songs because the whole thing was terrific. They played enthusiastically and Liam sounded great. The crowd reactions to “I’m a wheel”, “raise your hands” and even the colours part of “rainbow” were very memorable. “Mars to Liverpool” also got a great singalong reaction. I was surprised by how much even “love you forever” and “I’m bored” came off extraordinarily well live. Like I said, the only problem was the gig was too short! I didn’t mind that they weren’t going to play Oasis or Roses songs but another cover of two (like “are you experienced?”), a new song to make it 13 at least would have been very welcome. And not unreasonable given prices. I feel it’s easier to throw in another couple songs than charge less. But otherwise, terrific night.

Interesting. Would have been the only time Shakermaker was played in 1997 then, apart from Noel playing it opening up for Paul Weller. Pretty sure he did it at Brixton Academy along with the first performance of Half the World Away.

Listening to COYK now. It’s still my favourite Liam album.
That said, I’m referring to a modified track listing of the album.
More power Diamond in the dark Don’t go halfway Come on you know Too good for giving up It was not meant to be Everything’s electric Wave I’m free Better days The joker Oh sweet children
The cover of Bless You deserved a proper b-side release.
