Inspiration for the new oasis logo came from one of Gem’s guitar pedals. Gem, being an artist, drew the logo out so they could use it.

Maybe the new logo was inspired by the The Doors logo on the Waiting For The Sun album, Noel was a bit into The Doors at the time I guess, they're the main inspiration for Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is.

This is brilliant some photos at last! I believe these photos were taken in Los Angeles in December 1999. Simon Halfon mentions them in his interview on the oasis podcast at 40:28 podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-oasis-podcast/id1224373139?i=1000469220232I’m not overly sure how to put photos in posts, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t not sure why. More photos please from this era everyone!

So those blurry dots on the roof of the building are the band? The original concept was for it to be the band but when Bonehead and Guigs left they changed it to children playing football instead

Must have been weird as fuck seeing those photos at the time. They’re about as far away from Be Here Now as oasis could get. The change was drastic indeed. It felt very "american" and it was in the vein of what was going on at the time. Its probably the first album where they did not impose their identity but went with the trend. Removeing the englishness. Or the Manchesterness. Although i really love the album cover and GLIO cover. The rest (bsides covers) felt a bit plastic. Got Let It Out was a very english video, but the rest of the videos again felt very US oriented. And its crazy because their photo shoot at the time were all very bright and sunny, yet the record isn't at all. On the album cover itself if i remember well the photographer said it was a collage of 24 photo taken 1 hour apart. So it start with day rising on the left and night of the right. Pretty cool.

Yes I get what you’re saying, the artwork and videos all had a very different feel to them than what they did in the past. The WFL video was filmed in Death Valley USA and SMC in Vancouver Canada. I think sometimes these things work sometimes they don’t, the WFL video visually is brilliant but I’m not so sure about SMC and WDIAGW. Love the GLIO video, great song and the band look great. The SOTSOG artwork looks great but I just feel the image of the New York skyline has nothing to do with the band at all. Like the rest of the artwork around that time, visually looks nice but not sure what it’s got to do with the band.

I think the results were mixed but the switch up was refreshing and helped the audience understand that a new era for the band had begun. I agree that the album cover is a very nice photograph and that captures the vibe of the album well but it ultimately feels detached from the band itself. I'd also argue that it's very much looks a stock photo too. The graphic elements are just ok. I don't think the 'Go Let It Out' single cover contains strong enough of a photo to be the album cover but it's a great concept that still ties in with the album title and retains a sense of band's identity. The music videos aren't great but 'Who Feels Love' is well executed.

Definitely get the American vibe from those photos (and the artwork obviously). I enjoy lots about SOTSOG but it has a bit of a weird vibe. It feels like it kind of falls between two stools of the creation days and the Gem and Andy days of the next three albums. It’s most definitely the middle child. But it’s got some great highlights.

(by the way, this is becoming one of the most interesting threads on L4E in recent times) I’ve seen it once and not been able to find it again, will keep looking. Diego Actis on their YouTube page has a close up photo of Noel’s pedal board for the Jools Holland performance which includes these pedals. SIB Echodrive Pedal Hughes and Kettner rotosphere Boss Delay DD-6 Way Huge Aqua Puss Mk2 Boss line selector Tube Screamer TS-9 Dunlop cry baby 535Q I believe Gem was using some of the same pedals, maybe: Line 6 Delay DL4 Electro-Harmonix Pog Polyphonic Octave Generator I’m enjoying this thread too, I’d just like to post loads of photos but it appears to be a complicated process. Perhaps when we feel we’ve covered everything on this one I’ll make a Heathen Chemistry Era 02-03 positivity tread, although some people may find this controversial! 😀

So i got to listen to the demos again after a long time, they are pretty good, very raw compared to very polished end product. Still the first NG solo album 25 years later Too bad he butchered Revolution song on CY, that song had potential, the demos is gorgeous.

As a side-note, and I hate to bring negativity to a wonderful thread, but I fucking hate those glossy photoshoots. They look like stock photos of a shit band from California called "Blowfish", or something. Haha fair point. I’ve never really liked the band photo with instruments they did for the summer gig promo posters. I’ll stop there, let’s keep it positive please! 😀

Just a bit of fun... Ah, you got the title on there, I'm jealous! This was my effort last year, with what I think might be a wider shot from the original photograph: I was gonna leave it off but I figured it could to with a little something more. Glad you like it! I used an image I stitched together from Andrew MacPherson's (the guy who took the photo) Instagram and it's definitely the highest res version I've seen before ( HERE). For anyone who wants an Oasis desktop wallpaper look no further. It's interesting that both our crops of the originally image are much closer to one another than the one used on the official album cover. It'll partly be because Simon Halfon had to consider the back cover too and wanted the wide shot to carry on over. You're source image isn't a wider shot but has been squashed horizontally (presumably to fit in as much of the Morning-Day-Night cycle as possible). Interestingly though it is a little different from the one I posted. Compare the clouds on the right hand side of the Empire State Building. In creating my attempt I manually distorted the perspective to line up the vertical and horizontal lines of the buildings which makes the image look less warped. This however did limit how much of the right hand side of the image I could include but I that didn't really bother me tbh. My image is a little squashed horizontally, which I could have largely (if not entirely) corrected, but I didn't notice until after and I don't think it particularly matters. The original SOTSOG font didn't work particularly well at a small scale so I opted for something else whilst still giving a nod to the original.

Just a thought, I keep enjoy doing my fantasy SOTSOG playlists as well. And I believe that a Liam-sung version of Ian Brown's Keep What Yer Got (it's core somehow is still Teotihuacan) would perfectly fit the mood of the album. Is anyone able to AI Liam's voice into this ? And while we're at it - Let Forever Be - I always desired an acoustic version just with Noel on vocals. The perfect b-side to Who Feels Love in another world. Alongside Carnation. If anyone with the required abilities could give it a shot..

I think they look terrible on that photoshoot. Liam's jacket, his hair, the fact it's in the LA sunshine for some reason. Just isn't very Oasis.
To keep it positive Gas Panic is a top 5 Oasis song for me. Roll It Over has a great atmosphere too - that's really well produced and a great vocal from Liam, especially in the verses.
SOTSOG is the first leak I'd ever really heard of or downloaded online. Was listening to 64kbps versions of Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is that had only half-downloaded because my 56k modem wasn't fast enough! I think the whole thing leaked in early January maybe? In fact I think the demos might have leaked before the actual album.
Who Feels Love was the first thing anyone heard, when Noel played it backstage at the Y100 thing. The ANTICIPATION for the first new Oasis song in two years...and it was that. Not what was expected! One of the least melodic things Noel had put out by that point, the acoustic version with the drone not helping as there wasn't the production to add texture.
I think FITB was the next thing to be heard as white labels were placed in record shops and that eventually leaked.
Then Go Let it Out will have been premiered on the radio, and then the demos and album leaked. Was a very exciting time to be a fan, even if the band's taste and the fanbase's taste were probably misaligned by this point. It's interesting to look back on, anyway.

Was a very exciting time to be a fan, even if the band's taste and the fanbase's taste were probably misaligned by this point. It's interesting to look back on, anyway. Oh yeah. These were exciting times. I was 18 years old when this album leaked in January 2000. It was my first leak as well. Internet was still in very early stages when Be Here Now came out. Most homes only had 1 computer with dial up. Probably with 1-5 GB of total storage! So even if you had a way to download a leak it would prob eat up a ton of space. I attended Oasis' gig in Philadelphia at the Y100 festival in early December 1999. It was Gem and Andy's first Oasis show. It was the new Oasis and people were buzzing. Local media said Oasis would debut a new song that night. Most assumed it would be during the show but while driving to the gig, Y100 DJs said Oasis would debut a new song acoustically on the radio post gig. I was definitely stunned by Oasis' short 5 song set. I figured they'd play 45 min to an hour. Despite only 5 songs, they sounded incredibly strong with top Liam vocals and Noel's guitars at 11. True to their word, Noel played Who Feels Love? acoustically on the radio. I downloaded the song off Napster when I got home an hour later. Couldn't believe someone ripped it and uploaded it that fast. Especially in December 1999!!! I can't remember if I heard Who Feels Love? or Fucking In The Bushes first but they both came out very close to one another. Go Let It Out was still about a month away from premiering. That was an exciting day and It sounded just how I impinged it would based on Noel's quotes. I remember downloading the b-sides and being floored by Let's All Make Believe. The demos definitely leaked after the main album leak. That is how I recall it going. Whoever ripped Where Did It All Go Wrong uploaded it with it playing over itself towards the end and you heard a fade out guitar solo which I loved. It wasn't until I bought the album in the shops that I realized it wasn't actually like that and just an upload error. I have the mp3 somewhere and it was found and shared on this forum a year or so ago. I lived on all those early Oasis fan pages and forums between August 1998 and June 2000. Good times.
