Great thread. I'd love to learn more about this era. For full disclosure - I'm 36 and was a massive fan as a kid in the 90s from hearing my older cousin playing WTSMG in 95, aged 7. Have vivid memories of playing it non-stop on repeat for years, buying DYKWIM single and Be Here Now and living through the Britpop mania years. Then after the BHN hype died down I lost interest, listened to grunge and 'nu metal' until rediscovering DM just before Heathen Chemistry was released and the rest is history. But 99-01 feels like a lost era to me - I lived through almost everything else but I still can't get my head around the change from BHN to SOTSOG. Not much happened between 99 and 00 so you missed only a few months. The early days before the release of SOTOSG were mad though, up until the album was indeed released. Then reviews were not so good, and the hype died down.

I still remember the official website playing the intro loop of Gas Panic, the first sound of the album we heard.
And the leak of Fuckin in the Bushes, with everyone wondering if that was fake.
Those were the days.

I love this period because it was the era I really got into Oasis. I love SOTSOG as it is but the below is the best album of their career imo
Fuckin in the Bushes Go Let It Out Who Feels Love? Where Did It All Go Wrong? Teotihuacan (Excerpt One) Let’s All Make Believe Gas Panic! Sunday Morning Call Teotihuacan (excerpt two) Full On (Liam vocals) It’s A Crime Roll It Over

I really like Sunday Morning Call less and less as times go by. its long, its weird. I dont know. there was better stuff to put on but i guess Noel wanted his ballad single;

Someone gave me this playlist (apologies if it was someone from here - I have forgotten!) and it does the job for me most of the time ... shame that One Way Road isn't available in my region, but it's still pretty damn good.

I enjoyed this period, still remember getting the post card thing from oasis management announcing the album. Liams voice was great but the songs werent there fully, i think they shouldve waited and released a hybrid of this and h.c. anyway, heres the playlist i listen to, for anyone interested

I love this album. The atmosphere, Liam's voice, the look of the band, the concerts... I already prefer SOTSOG to Be Here Now as it is. But it would have been even more devastating if instead of hastily releasing Be Here Now they had waited and merged both albums.
Something like that would have been perfect in my opinion:
Fuckin' in the Bushes Go Let It Out Who Feels Love? D'ya Know What I Mean Little James Gas Panic! Where Did It All Go Wrong? Stand By me All Around The World I Can See a Liar Roll It Over

Weird thought but a lot of these songs would not have been written if Be Here Now didn’t turn out the way it did.

Stand By me All Around The World I Can See a Liar Roll It Over I prefer SOTSOG to BHN too, but in my opinion there's only three or four tracks that could have matched the overall darker mood of SOTSOG: DYKWIM, My Big Mouth, Fade In Out and Don't Go Away. I definitely wouldn't put AATW anywhere near SOTSOG. It doesn't fit at all.
