Sounds like Pretty Boy, Part 2. Which is not a good thing I would like it better if it sounded like Pretty Boy, Part 2.

Not great. Terribly mixed and mastered. Agreed, it might have been better with improved production. Honestly, this album so far seems a little underwhelming to me, but maybe a full listen will be fruitful. That's usually how it works.

I like it. Solid 7 that might grow to a 8. Someone has mentioned that it sounds like Doves... and yes it does, quite a lot! Hints of Paul Weller too. The vocals seem a bit weak to me though. And something about the mix isn't right. It's not Youtube/Spotify related: I've just bought the hi-res FLAC from Qobuz and it still sounds flat. I think a lot of Noel's solo music has suffered from either bland production or poor mixing The early stuff with Sardy is well mixed in the sense everything sounds pleasing enough but the actual production is a bit bland. Then the album with Holmes is the opposite in some instances, the production is pretty cool but some of the mixing isn't great, super compressed with no dynamic range. That can work for some songs and styles though. This Council Skies song sounds like a rough mix. Flat, as you say. I'd be interested to know who is mixing these.

What's wrong about the video? Looks pretty inoffensive to me. It's not cringe as fuck like some past ones. It just felt very shallow while trying to look deep and having a lot of potential, which made the shallowness of the song more evident and it made me angry lmao - I almost prefer the more cringe ones I think that's the point. He's daydreaming. It's another take of Underneath The Sky basically.

Probably the first Noel-written song where I still can't remember what it sounds like after a few listens

I was shocked at Council Skies (the song), though. Like, there are some guitar parts that sound waaaaaaaayyyy out of the mix and absolutely messy. Also the ending just doesn't go anywhere it seems to be heading toward, which is too bad because I like the vibe of the song and what it's going for.

Probably the first Noel-written song where I still can't remember what it sounds like after a few listens This is exactly my problem, I have listened to it 4 times now and couldn't tell you anything about it still. 4/10 for me and I feel like I'm being a bit generous there.

not as bad as i initially thought, but a big, big let down after the genious that is dead to the world. the "i found you" bit is... weird. why?
i don't think i will listen to it for too often.
5.75/10

Didn't think much of it when I listened to it a couple of times yesterday but just threw it on and this morning and liked it much more already. Still not a great song but a decent/good one

I-yi hate the part when he sings sky-yi... It's the constant shifting from borderline whispering to shouting that annoys me the most as someone else pointed out, it seems like it's a staple of his singing style now but it just doesn't work

Those melodies will work their way under your skin in time.
So good.

6. Decent song, my least favourite from the pack, but I'm okay with it.

I have to say that, for a change, I even kind of like the video. It straightforwardly captures the spirit of the song: maybe the environment seems depressing to everybody else, but now that I found you, I see fireworks.

What a comedown after Easy Now and DTTW. Would be fine as an album track, but not sure it should have some out as a single.
Additionally - it feels really wrong that the album is still a few months away and we already have four songs released from it. I was super excited after the last two songs were released, but the wait is just killing it for me.

Hmm, not loving it after the first listen. One youtube comment said "Noel is back to the 90's. Finally." - WTF are they talking about? Never understood those type of comments. Why do you want a 56 year old making the same kind of music he did when he was in his mid to late 20s?

Not only that, but Council Skies in particular literally doesn't resemble a single song he released in the 90s

I said Underneath The Sky and saw someone else mention it in the YouTube comments today. It's the chorus, it's just not like straightforward.

Probably the first Noel-written song where I still can't remember what it sounds like after a few listens Same here. First time with a Noel tune. I cant humming the melody at all. It reminds me Paul Weller ON SUNSET stuff.

It doesn't have the "in the moment" and smart production of the 90s.

Why do you want a 56 year old making the same kind of music he did when he was in his mid to late 20s? Lyrically no, but he can and should still make songs with huge guitar riffs to rock out to. Age no excuse. Macca at the age of 78 put an absolutely monster guitar riff on his last album, one of the heaviest mainstream songs I heard that year. Got the psychedelia in there too. Want Noel to rock out, not just to put out mood music.
