I'm still trying to process the whole Ryan Adans transgressions news. The media and accusers has painted him in such a dark light. Not sure how to handle it. We talk about it in the Ryan Adams thread. It's an interesting case, worth digging.

Never been a fan of his Wonderwall in the slightest. Takes the passion out of it for me, and is very depressing. The Some Might Say on the other hand sounds good. Nothing on the original but a nice new take. Still slightly downbeat though and a whole album of this kind of stuff might make me as depressed as listening to Radiohead does. Still, I guess making an entirely different take on it is the way to go, otherwise it will probably just sound like some shire local cover band and you might as well just listen to the real thing. Besides, even as uplifting as a lot of Oasis songs seem in their production, there was quite an undertone of melancholia about it I think, In some of the chord progressions and melodies, so it’ll be interesting to see that brought out more. Because that underline melancholic sound is always there, that’s probably why it does sound quite depressing. because it’s not like you could take blue Suede shoes and make it sound like Radiohead or something, so it’s kind of like he’s just bringing elements out of the songs that are already there. It will be worth a listen although the ones I’ve heard are not great or anything and I probably wouldn’t play them more than once. I agree about the melancholy, but Noel's biggest strength has always been making you feel euphoric or hopeful despite that. Even a chorus like "while we're living, the dreams we have as children fade away" is delivered in such a way that it's about being absolutely okay with that and having a reason to live.

Interesting he’s included some of the b-sides but my no Boneheads Bank Holiday is a big negative for me! Come on Ryan

Just listened to it. I think he's done a respectable job at reimagining it through a laid back, folk rock, Neil Young-ish lens. The covers are creative and generally do what a good cover should. It's a success as far as I'm concerned and makes me wish there were more strong, imaginative Oasis covers out there by established artists (because as far as I'm aware there's very few). I'll relisten and rate the covers at some point but I think for the most part the less loved 'Morning Glory?' songs are pulled off the best.

Thanks for the link, keen to hear this. I’m especially curious how’s done Headshrinker. Hey Now wasn’t quite as good as I’d hoped it would be but it was the right idea generally.

You don't need to to enter any credit card info to get it from the official site. paxam.shop/products/morning-gloryJust select "buy it now" and enter a name and email address (both fake if you like). Then "continue to payment" or "make payment" (something like that pops up) but you don't need to enter a credit card number. It just gives you a free download option almost straight away.

I liked a lot of it. Hey Now was my favourite track. She's Electric I thought was really poor.

Didn't like She's Electric either, that and Acquiesce. The ones I like the most are Hey Now, Morning Glory, Talk Tonight, Headshrinker, and Rocking Chair.
And yeah, I think he gets Hey Now, which I always feel like the ones who complain about the ploddingness of it don't.

Nope... I loved what he did with Wonderwall at the time, but this is awful. It's like he's trying to sound like Neil Young but he just ends up sounding like an old man at his last breaths. Most of these songs are not built to be played in this manner (Headshrinker, Champagne Supernova, Morning Glory, Roll With It, Acquiesce, etc.).
Yeah, not for me...

Currently on a European tour, Ryan has added "Headshrinker", "Some Might Say", and "Cast Now Shadow" into his setlists:
Here's CNS

This live version sounds significantly better than the version his cover album, imo

After a couple of listens, Headshrinker is the one that sounds to me like a genuinely good version, one of those that makes you look to the song from a different angle. Same for his original Wonderwall version
The rest are ok (those songs are so good that any treatment works for them), but I don't think they add anything to the originals

Hello gotta be my favourite of the cover LP - love the vibe of this version.
Good lad Ryan! Him and Noel doing some sort of acoustic tour... don't stop believing

So after listening to this 4-5 times, I have to say: I’m really liking it. I wasn’t sure if I would but I am quite impressed.
I was most excited for Hey Now and felt disappointed when it was first released. But now I love it. I’ve always felt that HN was (lyrically) like rewinding yourself through your life, all the moments passing you by in a fuzzy blur. In the Oasis version, it feels like Liam’s voice defiantly stands by his life. In the RA version, it feels like he’s dissociated out of his own life as it passes him by. His version and that interpretation suits the song.
LOVED what he did with Headshrinker. I think all the bsides turned out best actually. Rocking Chair always sounded a bit like The Smiths to me. This version is fully very Smiths. Acquiesce even acoustically worked well. Talk Tonight was a perfect fit for RA. I think RWI, MG sounded great in this style. Funnily enough, I think the biggest hits were the ones I enjoyed least: WW, DLBIA, CS, and SMS. I liked them but they were the least best IMO. Loved the rest.
Really happy with this. I think the Neil Young doing MG description matches it well.

Yeah, that's exactly how I interpret HN too. It’s funny, for the “runt of the litter” of MG, the only one still never played live, it’s the song off the album I’ve grown to love most over the years. I think CNS, HN, SMS, and CS are my favourites since the last 8-10 years.
