This Is It aside the songs are shit and it absolute shows that it was written and recorded in a rush to fulfil a contractual obligation.

Orion is a fun throwaway thing but I never listen to it.

1984 I love. Especially Rats in the Wall.

So Alive is one of my fav song ever, so emotionnal. Tracks 1 to 5 are untouchable. Then There's up and downs like in every of his record because he can't refrain himself to 10 or so tracks. I swear he would have been way bigger if he had released shorter records. Most People cant be arsed to listen to 1+ hour records. This apply to RNR as well, it's a bit long. I don't complain though, most of his records work that way for me.

Probably the three I would recommend myself. Gold has some great songs but probably a tad on the long side.

Ashes and Fire and Ryan Adams probably the two that would round out my top 5.

I do really like 1989 too, great rethink of the album.

I'm a bit of a completist when listening and with most artists I'll make a playlist of all their stuff. For example if I want to listen to (What's The Story) Morning Glory by Oasis I would never play the actual album from start to finish - I'd go to my Oasis playlist which interweaves all the Morning Glory era b-sides with the album tracks followed by the few remixes of that era.

Ryan Adams is one of the few artists where I do the complete opposite. When he has a new album I'll listen to it quite a few times over several days or weeks then cherry pick the songs I like (usually three or four) that I want to add to my personal Ryan Adams playlist. I'm not a big fan of country music for a start so that rules out a huge percentage of his songs. The sheer volume of material he produces means I still have a "best of" (or "favourites" might be a better title) that runs for around five hours.

I'll have to go through his last few albums because I haven't updated it for several years.

That's an interesting way of listening to music. I almost do the same although i dont mix stuff. I do my own album from album tracks and bsides usually. And then play everything from one artist. I have Oasis periods, Pulp periods... etc where i cant listen to anything else. Weird.

I dont think i could listen to a 5 hour playlist though, it's huge.

As for Ryan Adams, records he did post 2004 and while he was married and after could use some trimming (bar Wednesdays maybe) or could be one instead of 2 or 3 records. they had a big drop in quality (some Cardinals records, and apparently because the wife didn't like him spending hours writing songs, and well... because of all that happened after that)

I swear Cold Roses, 12 tracks, Jacksonville 12 tracks, III/IV 12 tracks... some huge record there. Prisoners is praised but i'm not a big fan of it. He could have done something else with the bsides.

On the other hands, this much material gives us the opportunity to create our "own" records right

I’m a bit late but anyway. He shouldn’t even try to cover albums like WTSMG. He covers Taylor Swift, Springsteen, Oasis and all his covers sound similar. He covers Wonderwall or Morning Glory or Talk Tonight and they all will sound similar . Don’t say me anything about  his style or whatever. His style doesn’t mix well with fun and joyful or passionate pop and rock songs.
