On his YouTube channel, James Hargreaves delivers a fascinating theory about what the Oasis' Morning Glory album is all about. An amazing work that blew me away, which any fan of the band should take the time to watch! 😮

I am in the midst of watching this right now and was about to come on here and post about it. I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories but this does seem oddly plausible.

I think The Beatles thing is stretching it a bit but everything else sounds like it could make sense. Someone should send this to Matt Morgan and get him to ask Noel about it on the show.

Yup. Posted this in the general Oasis thread yesterday.
Superb watch. Beatles connection may be a bridge too far, but the double secret album is a fascinating theory. Strong Subconscious at the very least.

Yes, I agree the first part makes sense (the part about b-sides makes a bit less sense, and the part about Beatles references and the 3s doesn't make any sense). Of course Noel's lyrics are so cryptic that you can build almost any story around them, and the "connections" sometimes are stretched and, yes, we are the most likely people in the world to overthink all things related to Oasis .... BUT we know for sure Talk Tonight is about that episode, we know by multiple testimonies that it was important for Noel, and it seems plausible that at least 'Half the World Away', 'Don't look back in anger' and 'Wonderwall' (with the 'Wishing Stone' story) are related to it. And actually, listening to the album with that in mind gives more emotional weight to some of the songs. For instance, 'Hello' and 'Roll with it' are not longer songs with random lyrics: you suddenly can relate to them in a different way (even if it's maybe all in our imagination). In any case, the video is very entertaining and I have already created my 'What's the Story Morning Glory (Conspiracy Theory)' playlist ;-)

This is an excellent response to the video, one of which I agree with.

Well I just spent an hour and a half watching this. Absolutely fascinating! Imho he loses his thread a bit after the B Sides part but this is an utterly fascinating theory!

Haven’t watched that one, but his videos are excellent. Stumbled upon them a while ago when they came up as a recommendation on YouTube.

Well researched, but am I the only one that finds him a bit annoying as a presenter?

Well researched, but am I the only one that finds him a bit annoying as a presenter? I'm a bit split on it being a cross between well researched and borderline going down a path that just doesn't exist and coming across a bit unhinged. No doubt Noel is a bit in a fantasy world with what he says in interviews, but at the same time presuming the whole of Morning Glory is about one girl is a bit of a stretch. Likewise Noel having a plan for the band is hardly unique research. Tony Mccarolls version of events sometimes gets way too much authenticity from Oasis fans in my opinion. Theres plenty of parts of Tony's book that are incredibly hyperbole. Noel saying I've got a masterplan in a little flat in Manchester as if he had devised this whole plan that would lead them all to being the biggest band in the world is exactly one of them moments. I think Spinal Tap had a bit of a lasting legacy on people in bands so they think this kind of thing is needed all the time.

as a hopeless and perpetually heartbroken romantic, i cannot even begin to tell you how much i love the idea of WTSMG being a concept album for noel's star-crossed lost love... ughhhhhhh!!!!!

Okay the first 10-15 minutes i can allow for what is an entertaining notion (if not at all believable). I mean yes, we all know the stuff about her saying whats the story morning glory to him on the phone but Noel picks up shit loads of these references for songs. Alka Seltzer etc. It's just how he does it. But for good content you obviously need to provoke discussion and i am all here for that, so a 15 minute video on this would have been cool IF it ended there.
What comes next about the Beatles is quite simply lunacy. He says hold my beer at one point. Keep him away from the harder stuff.

It's a very fascinating video but I think some things are stretched, like the Beatles part, which most people tend to agree on. I'm surprised that he didn't mention the Don't Look Back In Anger B-Sides, Step Out, Cum On Feel The Noize and Underneath The Sky. Perhaps they didn't fit into his narrative, or they were written too late for this.
Just my own thoughts now, I'm just thinking about this off the top of my head, no really deep thoughts.
From what I heard, Step Out was supposed to be on Morning Glory but was scrapped and put as a B-side because of copyright issues. If Step Out did make it to the album, where would it be placed? How would it affect the story?
Underneath The Sky could possibly be Noel starting over again after the break up with Melissa (~making a start with my brand new heart~).
Cum On Feel The Noize is just a rowdy song, have no idea where it would go.

Watched this last night and agree it is fascinating.
Don't think I agree with the theory that WTSMG is one big concept album, but I can certainly see how Melissa Lim / Whisky A-Go-Go could have influenced far more than just DLBIA and Talk Tonight.
The b-side and Beatles theories are clearly rubbish though.

I think he might be on something here, but I just can't believe every track on the album (including b-sides) is about Melissa or the gig incident.
Probably the truth lays somwhere in the middle of "lyrics don't mean anything to me" and "I'm gonna open up about what I'm feeling".
Great video anyway, James videos are always a really good watch.

Let’s say the entire thing is wrong
James Hargreaves still provides us another way to listen, approach, appreciate the album, close to three decades later. And he definitely gives us an insight into Noel’s deep subconscious.
It’s a good video regardless of the theory’s validity.
