Think its got there. As far as i can see its only the second song of the 20th century to reach a billion, after Bohemian Rhapsody.
When you consider all the songs that still get played incessantly worldwide - Smells Like Teen Spirit, Don’t Stop Me Now, Sweet Child O’ Mine, Don’t Stop Believin’, Mr Brightside...
...And Wonderwall beat them all to it.

Mr. Brightside came out in this century tho But yeah, only Bohemian Rhapsody had made it from the 1900s, and it could be extended to the whole pre-Spotify era as no song from 2000-2010 made it either Don't Stop Me Now will be next I think

Regarding pre-spotify era, i think literally the other day Lose Yourself by Eminem did reach a billion which is from 2002, so sadly they just missed out on that one.

That's excellent news about Wonderwall. Wouldn't it be great if other Oasis songs managed it as well like Don't Look Back In Anger, Live Forever etc.

At $0.00437/stream that’s $4.37m.
People spent more than that on music videos in the 90s.
Still, I wouldn’t mind getting those quarterly royalty cheques!

I find it weird that no Beatles song reached 1 billion yet.

Yeah that doesn't surprise me.
Has any of their songs transcended to this generation or even my generation towards casual music fans? (I'm 31)
Cos that's what makes a song MASSIVE, that even casuals download it.
Don't think they have any song that reached that level.

What surprised me when I looked it up is that apparently Oasis's fourth-most streamed song on Spotify is Stop Crying Your Heart Out. I love that song, but I wouldn't have expected it to come in nearly that high. A HC song in the top five, and no DM!
The top five list goes: 1. Wonderwall 2. Don't Look Back in Anger 3. Champagne Supernova 4. Stop Crying Your Heart Out 5. Stand By Me

Stand By Me Yeah, Live Forever used to be nr 4, but SCYHO and SBM have caught up, because they're supported by their first 5 position on the oasis page on Spotify. A shame actually that DM isn't supported more there.

That movie did wonders for Queen, average movie btw, all of sudden Queen became very popular again, it's very unusual a song like Bohemian Rapsody with 3 key changes being very popular with young audiences. Past week I was driving and BR played on the radio, I had a blast, I felt like I was on that scene on Wayne's World.

I love the song too and I agree with you about there being no Definitely Maybe. It seems really odd to me.

I'm not a fan of Spotify, for various reasons, but the only thing that can help with it, is to see the popularity of a song with a particular audience at a particular time. It's nice to see that it's a refined chamber pop track that is the most played from the 90's, even 25 years after its release rather than let's say, something from the Spice Girls

Liam has only just mentioned this just recently in his post on Instagram. I really thought that he would have mentioned it by now or maybe he knew about it but forgot about it.

Wait a minute - it's now at 1 billion and 116 million. Something doesn't add up here.
Edit: I realize these news are 6 months old now, but that still seems improbable. It would mean almost 20 million new listens each month, or 640.000 listens per day.

No Wonderwall there but Smells Like Teen Spirit, Yellow, Mr Brightside, Every Breath You Take, Dreams, two Queen songs, etc. Quite a few more or less "older" songs, surprisingly. Last song just under 5 millions so probably Wonderwall is quite close to it. Seeing the charts though, am I the only one surprised by the popularity of" Do I Wanna Know?" by Arctic Monkeys ? Not saying that because I'm not a fan of the band but I don't feel the song or even the band has been that heavily promoted or anything lately. The song is also above 1 billion views on youtube.

Was also mentioned in the face-less "authorized" Oasis twitter account yesterday ... think they just received some official commemoration from Spotify for it so that's why it suddenly came up well after the fact.

Oh right, thanks for that as I didn't know. But that could be why Liam mentioned it then the other day.

Well, I don't follow the Spotify charts to be honest but whatever the truth is about how many plays Wonderwall has had on there is anyone's guess. But I would go with one billion.
