Yeah you guys would slate these songs if they were on a Oasis or BE album lbr Anyway I’m glad that Andy is doing his thing and happy. And Gem at last had opportunity to do some creative work But these songs are not for Oasis or Beady Eye. They’re Andy’s songs done the way Andy wanted to do them, which is something quite different from what Noel or Liam would do, and he created something beautiful (and also meaningful in a way a few individual songs just stuck on Oasis albums could never be.) No reason to slate a lovely, cohesive album that stands very much on its own terms.
Of course you don't have to like the album. Would not think this one is for everyone. But there are standards in 2022 other than "would it have sounded good as an Oasis album?"
Where did I slate them? I mentioned Oasis and BE because it was discussed earlier in this thread that Andy wrote some of the songs many years ago and theoretically they could be used for their albums. I just said that the critical/fans perception of the songs would be different in such case

Oh, I was only responding directly to your quoted comment that "you guys would slate these songs if they were Oasis or Beady Eye lbr” Slate was your word. Just saying there’s nothing to slate for me because this is Andy Bell’s 2022 album and I think it can only be taken as that. Bell himself said the album is really a conversation between the past and the present ... "me exchanging ideas with my younger self." So yeah, some of it was initially written in the 90s but it was all revisited through the filter of now, so the album isn't at all what those songs would have sounded like if Oasis/BE had recorded them.

My comment was remark on that short discussion in this thread, that it was of an oversight that they didn’t use these songs for Oasis and BE

For me, I'm glad he wound up saving the songs for this project because I love the idea of it. But in an imaginary world, I do think Liam would sound pretty great on a couple of them ... not necessarily then ... but now.

Nice little capsule review from Clash Music: www.clashmusic.com/features/just-played-a-column-about-vinyl-records-24Alongside the Ride revival, Andy Bell has been fairly prolific on the solo front recently, both eponymously and as GLOK. ‘Flicker’ is his second under his own name, once again on Sonic Cathedral. Clocking in at just over 75 minutes, it’s a double album in the truest sense, filling up all four sides of this transparent GZ pressing. The copy we received played with barely a hint of surface noise throughout and it looked rather handsome with its obi-strip and blurrily discombobulating artwork. Possessed of an often somnambulant momentum, it can sometimes feel like all but the vocals are playing at the wrong speed. Its gloriously languid touch allows these tracks to gently bubble up, with pieces like ‘Way Of The World’ feeling not unlike one J Spaceman. At times, Sixties pop collides with Eighties shoegaze to deliver a hazy sheen that is rather beguiling. Best consumed in one sitting, as its eighteen tracks gently dissolve time around you.

To this day, Boy With The Blues being spunked away as a bonus song annoys me. I'm genuinely not looking for a fight, just my two penn'orth but it's appropriate metaphor this track be spunked away 'cause this song is a load of musical wank. Not well structured, the choir part is dismal and most importantly it lacks a strong hook or refrain. Perfect, in fact, for a bonus track / B-side experiment. Plus Liam was alotted 3 tracks on the album, I can't believe he wasn't behind the decision to include these as good benchmarks for his current songwriting outlook. For obvious reasons Noel made sure his own songs made up the bulk of Mark 2 years (02-08) records but ensured Andy and Gem got a piece of the action. And this wasn't just throwing them a bone or lip service to band harmony. Noel obviously recruited Gem (and continues to employ him), and Keep The Dream Alive was slated, at one point, as the final track of one of the versions of Don't Belive the Truth until they switched things up later on. That alone shows Noel's respect for what Andy brought to the table.

They put their songs forward to Noel and he was in total control of what went on the album. Liam wanted Boy With The Blues on there and Noel didn't like the ending that you reckon is shit. I defy you to tell me Ain't Got Nothin was a better choice.

Nah Dawg. Too slow. Too plodding. Too boring. Never been a fan of this song myself. Probably was best served as a future solo Noel song. I’m curious to hear the full band version from the DBTT doc. Heavy with the electric guitars.

What about Let There Be Love Nah Dawg. Too slow. Too plodding. Too boring. It’s slower than should be but still good better than everything in your tracklist except TIOBI. Personally I like LTBL more than TIOBI.

Poor Andy Bell... just can't get no respect. This thread has been thoroughly hijacked.

It's a nice little song. Nothing more, nothing less.
Looks better probably because of the other songs that Oasis had around that time were hit and miss maybe?
