Well, Noel did say we could enjoy/argue over it. Job done. He's obviously used to reading this forum!

I'm going with 2004/2005 for this Dont Stop demo.
Sounds too much like the RM/STC demos which I think are from then.

Rather curious to see a song that, while I feel is unspectacular, gain the kind of traction on social media that neither solo ventures provide (aside from maybe debut tunes from Liam). The weird thing is it's a tune far far inferior to a lot of the brothers solo tunes yet more hyped up and talked about simply by slapping the name of Oasis on to it. Noel releases a similarly held-back song in Come On Outside last month and nobody bats an eye lid! Possibly an indication of the public desire to see Oasis back together again. Give the public a sniff and they'll go mental yet they'd have been well and truly thrown off scent if Noel had released it under the High Flying Birds moniker. Anyway, nice feeling to be venturing into the Oasis section of the forum again! They're the biggest band in Britain - or probably to phrase it better, I reckon they're as big as they ever were in Britain right now apart from 95-97. I know it's mad. They've been broken up for 11 years. But they are.

On Apple Music it's Song: "Don't Stop (Demo) - Single" Artist: "Oasis" Year: "2020" I'm not gonna start a mass protest about it or anything, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't leave a strange taste in the mouth. Maybe it's just the anticlimax of having a new Oasis single in my library and that feeling utterly unexciting, combined with knowing it has nothing to do with Liam. Just feels a bit odd, but of course I'm happy enough to have it. I hope more exciting stuff like the Death in Vegas sessions comes out of the hallowed sock drawers. Strange taste? its a FREE song given to us at random. We've all wanted this track for 15 years and now we have it and people are still upset. Its maddening. Don't get hung up on the term "single" its not even being framed that way. Its just a song dropped for us diehards. Nobody is gonna give a fuss in the larger musical world. Its a treat for us. Who cares that it says "2020", that's just how Spotify and Apple are categorizing it. No different than when I ripped the BHN reissue and it said 2017. We all know its from years prior. None of us are dummies. Naturally it has nothing to do with Liam because Noel did all the demos mostly by himself or with Gem. Liam always came in the end to throw his vocals on. This definitely wouldn't have been his song anyways. All that being said, and I fully agree, it's currently at no.3 in the UK iTunes charts. Behind the celeb cover of Times Like These and Michael Ball's duet with Captain Tom, mind. Strange times. Strange times.

Has anyone noticed how similar the chorus is to Won't Let You Down? I noticed that too - they're very similar.

A very very very very bad song. Nothing else. Never gonna listen to it again. It's incredible the bad taste of Noel nowadays Getting mixed up with Richard Ashcroft? Hhaha. I do love Ashcroft's early solo stuff and tbf don't mind bits of the latest records (though only 4-5 songs). But yeh, how an 11-15-year-old demo can suddenly be used as another way to slate Noel is quite something. It is what it is. I've always loved the song from hearing the soundcheck 8 or 9 years ago. I love the melody, I love the lyrics and the rawness of it. I get not everybody feels the same way but i'm glad to have it. That verse is one of my favourites, ever. I love it. Doesn't mean I think the song is a new Live Forever, but I do really love the vibe of it and that part in particular and to have it out there in full (even if it is a demo) means a lot.

A lot of folk love this song, which is great to see and I don't begrudge them it even if I'm not personally moved by it (never did strike a chord even 11 years ago!). It's traditional Noel for sure and the familiarity and sense of assurance in the lyrics is pretty much universally adored. Imagine the reaction though if it had been Dead In The Water though...

I'm sure that's Gem on guitar, Noel just doesn't have that style. Probably does seem that 06 Stop The Clocks time. Could it be Paul Stacey and Terry? It seems in 2005 and after Liam demoed with Andy/Gem while Noel worked with Paul Stacey in strangeboy studios.

I don’t hear RM at all?
To me, it’s mostly Heart of a Star with the tinge of GOYHHL.

There doesn't seem to be a lossless version to buy of it anywhere? Has anyone found one?

That tuning has a particular "ring" (don't know how to describe it). Stop The Clocks is another example.

Did he record a HFB version? I thought he only thought about doing it in the future. I guess he said it in a reddit interview or somethin.
Ha, that's a link to his answer to my question. I remember sitting in an extraordinarily boring college class and drafting that question over and over again to condense my excitement and curiosity into something that would actually get a response. Time flies.

The open A string ringing makes a difference.

Any chance of this getting the Number 1 spot this week? I'm afraid not, but one can always hope. I'm hoping top-75 this week and in my wildest dreams it reaches the top 10 next week.

Lyla, Beautiful World, I'm sure there's a few more too. Think Chris Martin also uses it on 'Orphans' - albeit he plays it up on the 773rd fret because he's a meff

I've played Record Machine mainly in standard before, and whenever I've tried to figure out this based on the soundcheck version, I've not thought to change the tuning (until hearing the demo the other day) - so have just gone G (without the top e), Dsus2 (or whatever it's called - the one without the top e) and A, with an E in the middle 8.

Mindfield Feel? Literally the first time I've ever heard about this one. I wonder what other tracks are floating about from the DOYS sessions? We seem to have abundant info regarding song titles on the Shoulder of Giants, Heathen Chemistry and Don't Believe The Truth sessions but a lot more scant for Dig Out Your Soul. The demos we have from that era are: I’m Outta Time Falling Down Man of Misery (Unconfirmed) Gem’s demo cd 2007 Standing On The Edge Of The Noise The Roller Minefield Feel Ballroom Figured In Our Bubble The lyrics are pretty bad but I actually really like Mindfield Feel. Certainly worse tunes by Gem (and the others) were used in Beady Eye.

What are the odds we get another Best Of album in November and Don't Stop is on it as a deluxe edition bonus track?
We are definitely due another Best Of album at some point as the song selection on Stop The Clocks is pretty daft. Only 9 songs per disc and only FOUR SONGS POST 1995?! Insane.

But the mates I have who aren't massive Oasis fans - or, should I say, some aren't, and others just aren't fully into knowing every detail about them - have all text me about this song. More the novelty factor I suppose but it's definitely getting a lot of traction.

I really like it. Nothing special; it’s just another one to chuck in a generic playlist titled “Melancholy Noely” and it’ll sit in there just fine.
If anyone thinks this just dropped without Liam being aware or hearing it first, the pr is working on you.
Despite the theories behind the reasons for releasing it, which I don’t care about, I’m really happy to have it.

True, but only the last day, and probably not the best. Moreover, streaming is much more important these days, so I'm afraid you're right.
