I am not sure why I have been banging the pots and pans so loudly over the last 15 years that DBTT should have had "Stop The Clocks", "Record Machine" and "Boy With The Blues" on it. The first two are just average to begin with. A lot of that perception might be from my own personal over hyping, or Noel's over hyping or the forum's over hyping. Any way you got it, they are just ok. I do really love "Boy With The Blues". Is it the greatest piece of music ever created? No but it is a top Liam tune. However, they would make the album better overall. Yeah it's weird how some really average songs get traction lol amongst the Oasis community, same with Eh La. STC and RM have very little going for them, just very drab. Is it cos they're B sides or underground tracks they seem like gems? BWTB is legitimately good though as you say.

It was supposed to be on DBTT but they pull it off the album cos they couldn't finish the song properly, but they planed to release it as a stand alone single in 2006, sadly they didn't. To be honest, the real travesty of DBTT was not putting Lord Don't Slow Me Down, Eyeball Tickler, and Can Y'See it Now (I Can See it Now!) on there. The album would've been much better with that, instead of filler like The Meaning of Soul and A Bell Will Ring (riff is good though), and ending with just Let There Be Love.

Always always loved the vibe of this song. I'm assuming it didn't make DBTT because that would have been far too many Noel sung tunes on the LP which is unfortunate. The demo with Liam on vocals is ok but Noel sings it better. Less strain based on what we have heard between both brothers.

His ragged voice in the verses gives it the edge it deserves. Mix in Noel's backing vocals, a la what Lyla is like, and you got yourself a good final product. Even the version we have with Liam on vocals is pretty alright, albeit with some strain like you said.

Well aware of that debacle. Was super excited in the fall 2005 when Noel teased the idea of an Oasis EP come early 2006 led by Boy With The Blues. They should have done something like this: 1) Stop The Clocks (Liam) 2) Lord Don't Slow Me Down (Noel) 3) I Wanna Live In A Dream In My Record Machine (Liam) 4) Stop The Clocks (Noel) 5) Boy With The Blues

Fantastic album - Liam sounds good on it, the band looked great, they seemed to genuinely be getting on and there was hype around them again.
Saw them at the COM - what a day. All the drinking through the day n the barrier breaking at the start. Fun times.

LDSMD is a lot better with Liam vocals, imo.

Record Machine and Boy With The Blues would have improved the album, Stop The Clocks is too drab to be salvaged even by Liam singing on it.

Turned 21 that summer...loved Mucky Fingers...how can folks NOT lose their shit as the harmonica wails in that one??
Saw them 3x on this tour as well.
Does anyone know the story/have background on Can You See It Now??? Love this tune as well...used it as my bumper music when I was still in sports radio. I’d love to purchase a Japanese copy of DBTT so I could get this on actual CD

There is also Pass Me Down The Wine which at the time I thought it was their most Coldplay-ish song, a much better Liam song than the filler The Meaning of Soul.

I think that would've been a good song to slot in near the end of the album or right around Idle. It has some dark vibes but strong melodic qualities. This thread really proves that DBTT is a pretty strong album with good material. I could imagine an alternate DBTT tracklisting looking like: Turn Up the Sun Mucky Fingers Lyla Love Like a Bomb The Importance of Being Idle Eyeball Tickler Guess God Thinks I'm Abel Part of the Queue Keep the Dream Alive (shortened w/o the "La la la" chorus at the end) Lord Don't Slow Me Down (Liam) Let There Be Love/Can Y'See it Now? Call me a hypocrite, yes I did praise Pass Me Down the Wine and then didn't put it in there but it's a good song still. Better than Love Like a Bomb, but LLAB contributes more to the overall summertime vibe better than Pass Me Down the Wine does. Not to mention, the piano on LLAB and the transition into that song from Lyla is freaking awesome.

Noel was probably aiming for that type of feel but it doesn't age well.

It could've been more shoegaze-y, and the demo shows that potential, especially with Andy-freaking-Bell in the group who could've pushed the song in that direction more, but I do love the beautiful summertime vibes on it. I don't listen to it on a regular basis much anymore but when I do, that's what always hits me the most.

Just to show what a different musical world we were living in in 2005, today is the 15th anniversary of "Lyla" being released to the stores. It first premiered on radio over a month prior. A fucking month prior to having the ability to buy it in the stores or iTunes. That is fucking madness. Now songs are dropped instantly they premier on all services of your choosing.

All of this music chat is far too sensible. Can we get back to arguing about skinny jeans?

I hate Lyla at first - and yes, that’s when I started on this forum, right around the Polish radio leak. I think most on here were uncertain of Lyla at first, but it quickly grew to be one of their stronger hits.

Noel once said Mucky Fingers was supposed to be DBTT's first single, so I was thinking if maybe there is a Liam sung version of it, I mean, for a first single they probably would put Liam vocals on it, there is also that transition from MF to Those Swollen Hand Blues..., here is a new theory.

It was the first Oasis album that i bought on release date. For that alone it would always have a special place in my heart.
I remember that i had to pre-order the album on my local record store, because normally didn't have stock on the first day of release. Going to the record store after school (i was in high school), picking up the deluxe version, listening on my CD player and reading the lyrics. Turn Up The Sun comes up and i thought it was massive.
I liked pretty much every song on my first listen (the enthusiasm!). I distinctly remember that "Part of the Queue" was my favorite track.

Well remember, Noel is often times full of shit, but perhaps when he made those comments at the start of 2005, he was speaking of a time before songs like Lyla and Idle were added to the mix. When Noel first presented DBTT to the record executives they were disappointed there was no obvious single choices. They asked if he had anything else he could include. DBTT could have been a real letdown without those two white knights.

I wonder why "Boy With The Blues" didn't leak with the other demos from 2008. We know it was worked on in LA with Sardy. We assume those leaks are from that time.
